The number one thing we get asked is…What kind of dog is it? What is it mixed with?
While we understand the curiosity or perhaps the need to get a basic idea of size, it’s the one thing we often cannot answer!
The majority of dogs that come through our Rescue, come in via Animal Control or picked up as strays by folks. Even when owner surrendered, we rarely have proof of DNA. So…we shrug our shoulders 🤷‍♀️ and give a possible guess.
But if you look at the 2 examples below, of SCN alumni pups, we definitely would not have gotten it right LOL. Muppet (on the left) is an Alabama Special in the truest form… a little bit of this and that, all mixed together, made a 30 lb concoction we would not have predicted!
Roland(on the right) came to the shelter missing so much hair, looking a mess, it was hard to tell what his lineage might reveal. To our surprise, and his family’s, he’s actually a purebred Pyrenees!
Both Roland and Muppet are loved beyond measure and have turned out to be wonderful additions to their family.
Rescue is an adventure! We hope you will open your heart and home to one of our Alabama Specials.
Maybe Forrest Gump said it best… Life’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get 😉

As we head into the new year, SCN is making changes to our pricing. We have kept our Adoption fees the same for the past few years, but, due to rising costs for the overall care we provide, we need to make a couple increases. As of January, 2025 SCN Adoption fees will be as follows…
Puppy-1 year ($400)*
1 year- 7 years ($300)
7 years and over-($175) **price remains the same for our Seniors

*Puppies who are not spayed/neutered at the time of adoption, due to their young age, will still be REQUIRED to be fixed by 6 months, per our contract. We will continue to refund $100 of the adoption fee, after verification of the procedure, just as we always have.

We look forward to helping you find your new pal in 2025! 🐾❤️🐾
