GRACE and GRIT: Health and Healing Thru Horse Human Partnerships The place to make life better for horses and the people in their lives.

The purpose of "GRACE and GRIT: Health and Healing Thru Horse-Human Partnerships" is to provide a science- and evidence-based stepwise program for horse lovers to improve the quality of life for domesticated horses. Grace and Grit provides equine enthusiasts access to a multi-faceted education encompassing the true nature and needs of horses. Our program provides the tools that allow both horses a

nd people to achieve the highest quality of a thriving life that includes good health, safety, healthy relationships, effective communication, contentment, and happiness. Students, employees, and clients are empowered through an eclectic approach which involves acquiring, applying, and reflection on skills, to develop mindsets focused on recognizing all opportunities for growth while building grit. The honest feedback provided by our horses directs people safely on the rewarding journey that encourages self-regulation and decision-making skills, founded in moral and ethical principles that help everyone to develop self-esteem and thrive. Grace and Grit: Health and Healing Thru Horse-Human Partnerships offers the opportunity for all participants to experience the genuine enjoyment, empowerment, and boost to mental health that comes with putting the needs of another first. All participants grow into the associated habits that transcend into all other aspects of their lives, families, work, school, and communities along with all the enriching benefits horse-human and all healthy relationships so generously offer.

Intense lesson this week included some focused mindfulness, self-awareness, and self-management of our thoughts and bodies.

Seemed like simple stuff when we discussed the plan. Not so simple as we applied the plan---there were lots of things going on, lots of thoughts and body parts to manage simultaneously. It can be stressful, or it can be rewarding to make progress and see the difference when we enjoy doing the work.

One of the biggest rewards is when our horses respond with endorphin overload---simply because they know that their partner is really truly focused on them and the partnership.

Elsa is at 'that' age where she's asking lots of unexpected and 'thinky' questions. One today was especially insightful. She asked if "horse just know which diagonal to be on."

That opened the door to deep-dive into what 'diagonal' means, and why it's important to the horse.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Questions are our best tool for learning.

Elsa graciously offered to demonstrate her beautiful 2-point for Emma. Emma wanted to understand how she could offer her pony the same unrestricted, make-the-right-thing-fun-for-the-horse freedom when she's doing obstacles.

The good news: Emma executed the bridge 2-point beautifully. we'll try to remember to catch it on video next week.

There's probably no one who hates being cold as much as me, and yet----she IS being a bit dramatic isn't she?🙀

We can't even get a trade off of no heinous, smelly, gross, annoying Asian beetles in trade for freezing our butts off. (Someone told me this is actually a real ladybug, but I don't trust any of them at this point.)

I come by my trust issues honestly 🤓

Dino and Harmonee vibing after a free-longe session.

As time goes on, we learn to pick up on the ever-so-subtle language of a well-trained horse. Given a little more space perhaps would change the position of Dino's ears and the amount of softness in his face. The 'well-trained' part grants us some latitude to experiment (within reason).

I love how he stops squarely. It's huge when they figure out how much more comfortable they are in that position. And a huge tell when they don't choose it.

❄️ Closet Clean-Out + Community Impact = ! 🐴

As you swap out your summer clothes for cozy winter wear, are you finding things you didn’t use at all last year? Maybe something that no longer fits — or furniture that just doesn’t match your new style?

We can HELP — and you’ll be helping us too! 💛

✨ The Grace and Grit: Health and Healing Thru Horse-Human Partnerships team (our Board, clients, students & participants) has been gathering gently used items and bringing them to the barn.
✨ Our amazing volunteers are taking them to consignment, and 100% of proceeds go right back into our programs — supporting:
• Program development
• Scholarship awards
• Special needs horse care

📦 Want to join in? Message or call 218-686-3838 to arrange drop-off, pick-up, or to learn more.

Together, we’re creating health, healing, and hope — one donation at a time. 💚
