GRACE and GRIT: Health and Healing Thru Horse Human Partnerships The place to make life better for horses and the people in their lives.

The purpose of "GRACE and GRIT: Health and Healing Thru Horse-Human Partnerships" is to provide a science- and evidence-based stepwise program for horse lovers to improve the quality of life for domesticated horses. Grace and Grit provides equine enthusiasts access to a multi-faceted education encompassing the true nature and needs of horses. Our program provides the tools that allow both horses a

nd people to achieve the highest quality of a thriving life that includes good health, safety, healthy relationships, effective communication, contentment, and happiness. Students, employees, and clients are empowered through an eclectic approach which involves acquiring, applying, and reflection on skills, to develop mindsets focused on recognizing all opportunities for growth while building grit. The honest feedback provided by our horses directs people safely on the rewarding journey that encourages self-regulation and decision-making skills, founded in moral and ethical principles that help everyone to develop self-esteem and thrive. Grace and Grit: Health and Healing Thru Horse-Human Partnerships offers the opportunity for all participants to experience the genuine enjoyment, empowerment, and boost to mental health that comes with putting the needs of another first. All participants grow into the associated habits that transcend into all other aspects of their lives, families, work, school, and communities along with all the enriching benefits horse-human and all healthy relationships so generously offer.

The first consideration for doing anything with a horse is the horse's comfort.

The dismount should be done in such a way that the horse feels safe, is comfortable, and even enjoys it.

The safest place for ANY person to be is with a horse who feels safe. By addressing the horses needs, we are keeping ourselves safe.

If the rider is physically or mentally unable to dismount in a way that keeps the horse comfortable then other factors---partnership suitability, mentorship, etc, need to be considered.

With practice and guidance, it's possible to learn to dismount correctly and increase the safety and comfort of all involved.

A shedding session from February 11 two years ago. Shedding is PRIMARILY dictated by photo period which, unlike the temperature, is improving nicely.

Interestingly, although several mares have started cycling, not one horse is shedding. I've never not had any horses start shedding by the last week in January.

Smart horses.

Spring needs to step up.

Today's THE day! If you haven't done so yet, please consider making your 💞Giving Hearts Day 2025 💞 gift to 🐎GRACE and GRIT: Health and Healing Thru Horse Human Partnerships 🤠now!

Please read the impact story below from Briana Ingraham, a program supporter/participant/board member.

Make your gift here: https://app.givingheartsday.org/ #/charity/1801

(Facebook was not allowing Briana to share this on the Grace and Grit page so we copy and pasted it from her profile page!)

"Briana Ingraham is with Cheryl Byrne and
2 others

"It’s been a minute! Between grad school, Chris’ cancer and recovery and three boys that keep us busy, I’ve not been able to get to holiday cards the last few years. But! We were so blessed this past year with a gift to Ward Studio that, to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, we got dolled up for a photo shoot - with tuxes and even a wedding dress or two.

Now it’s time to share some love, when perhaps many of us need it most! Happy Valentine’s Day from the Ingrahams!!!

And, if you’re feeling like you aren’t sure what to do, with funding for everything in limbo, consider spreading some love yourself this Valentine’s Day. Giving Hearts Day is tomorrow, 2/13.
If you’d like to help out locally, I cannot speak highly enough about the GRACE and GRIT: Health and Healing Thru Horse Human Partnerships program Charlie has greatly benefited from. I’m including the link here:

https://app.givingheartsday.org/ #/charity/1801

It’s been amazing to see Charlie connect with the horses, and even inspire his mom and brother to ride too!

As it is Valentine’s Day, the boys are also fund raising for the American Heart Association through their school fund raiser. You can help fund research through a donation to the AHA too!

Jack’s link: https://www2.heart.org/site/TR?fr_id=11261&pg=personal...

Whatever way you can, spread some joy, love, and kindness- these help so much through whatever darkness we find ourselves in. "

Thanks for sharing your experience, Briana!

How do you reward yourself after working for five hours in subzero temperatures cleaning barn, grooming horses, hauling hay, filling water tanks?

You tell your crabby trainer---who is clinically depressed about current and forecast weather---that you would like a tackless riding lesson.

This girl has got grit! And she's keeping me honest.

How to nurture emotional intelligence:
1. Modeling the behaviors you want to see:
~Express emotions openly;
~Apologize when you make mistakes;
~Show kindness and empathy in your interactions.

2. Validate the feelings of others, no matter how small they may seem.

3. Give others the space to process emotions without rushing to fix or dismiss them.

4. Encourage problem-solving by asking open-ended questions instead of providing all the answers.

5. Let others experience moments of stillness or boredom to build creativity and self-regulation.

We all believe we care about others, especially those who are “special” to us. However, this doesn’t come naturally. From birth, we are hardwired to prioritize ourselves—this instinct has helped us survive as individuals and as a species. Learning to truly care for others and understand their needs, particularly when they differ greatly from our own, requires effort and practice to make it a habit.

One of the ways we nurture this skill in the 🐎GRACE and GRIT: Health and Healing Thru Horse Human Partnerships🤠 program is by deeply understanding the needs of the horses. In this short snippet from a recent ride, Freya demonstrates her gratitude toward Dolly, using something she’s learned Dolly loves, to thank her for being such a great teacher.
