Coming from farming families, we are two passionate young farmers who own our dairy farm. We have a herd of Jersey cows of approximately 150 head of which 70 are lactating. We are now certified organic for the milk from our cows and for all our field crops. We work hard to preserve the environment and develop healthy and sustainable agriculture. Our choices are constantly linked to a return to the basics of what nature offers us. The health and well-being of our animals are our priorities.

On the family side, we are parents of four beautiful boys: Clément, Éloi, David and Bastien. They are our pride and will perhaps take over our dairy business for a 6th generation of Lemieux on the farm. Work-family balance being at the heart of our lives, children follow us and learn from our passions. Our four children are daily involved as much in the work of the farm as in the tasks in the kennel; they love getting their hands dirty and are aware that with everyone's efforts, we will be able to build great things!

We had our first basset hound in 2003 when we were finishing our college studies. His good temperament and his unique style seduced us immediately. Her sad but endearing gaze, her relaxed side and her kindness towards children suited our life perfectly!

A friend who breeds Chihuahuas convinced us to get a registered dog to ensure the quality of our Basset Hound to start our breeding. After much research, we found Venus! She arrived from Texas in October 2005.

The desire to start a small breeding has always been a project that we caressed about. . Thus, it was in 2009 that we officially became Basset Hound breeders. Since then, several dogs have been born and have been imported to swell the ranks of our lines.

We will not be competing in conformation in the near future given our family and farm commitments. We are working to develop bassets that have the standards of the breed but above all, with a playful and good-humored temperament. We call them ''our happy dogs!''; we make it a priority.

The plans for the next few years are to expand our pack as nature permits. We are now better placed for our dogs and we firmly believe that by putting all our heart and energy into continuing to improve their health, conformation, education, comfort, socialization that we will remain among the elite of the Basset Hound world. We hope to have given you a taste of the Basset Hound and that one of our puppies will be suitable for you as a companion !

CARE AND NUTRITION

The Basset Hound is an unusual breed, there are also weaknesses in dogs. Particularly careful attention requires the spine due to the structure of the body. Therefore, it is worth protecting dogs from falling, descending stairs and jumping off the couch while the dog is growing. It is also necessary to take care of the outfits: in autumn, to keep the dog clean, use light overalls, and for the winter season, especially in severe frosts, you need to choose warmer clothes. Bassets are especially prone to cystitis, so try not to overcool them.

Pay attention to your pet's ears. Wipe them regularly with a cotton pad. Use a special ear cleaning lotion. Do not forget about the eyes: without fail, they must be wiped with a 0.01% solution of chlorhexidine.

Bathe your dog once every 3 months. After walking, simply rinse the paws and stomach, then wipe dry.

It will take a little time for you to brush. During the molting period, this should be done daily.

Pay attention to the claws - once every two weeks, using a nail cutter, carefully trim the claws so as not to hurt the animal.

You need to walk your dog regularly! Basset should get used to defecate on the street from childhood. It is advisable to develop a schedule of walks.

HISTORY AND HABITS

There is an opinion that the Basset Hound breed was specially bred by French monks in the Middle Ages. The people of those distant times needed a dog that could hunt in the thicket and keep its nose as close to the ground as possible.

Certainly, some "family ties" connect this breed with the French Bassets, but the breed was finally formed in England.

Bassets are able to drive the beast, pursue it for a long time, overcoming long distances. Dogs move at the same even pace.

We keep all of our basset hounds for their entire lives, we do not re-home our hounds when they are retired from our breeding program. They are part of our family forever and always. We do not allow any visitors to our home while we have or are expecting puppies. This is for the protection, health, and well being of all of our puppies. Most people are unaware how highly contagious and dangerous a potential exposure from a disease such as Parvo could be to a breeding program. Parvo can live in contaminated soil for years and can also live on any contaminated items or surface until it's properly cleaned and disinfectant. So we take no possible chances of having an accidental exposure to our breeding program by a unknowing potential family wanting to visit. We will gladly share pictures and videos with any potential family to see our complete breeding program and puppies and Parents. We also welcome any of our puppies families to come to our vets office for the puppies 6 week vaccinations /check up appointment so you can meet your puppy as well as us in a safe controlled environment. But we always keep our puppies until they are 9 to 10 weeks old.
