☑️Leash training☑️
When training a dog to walk on a leash it is important to understand that the lead should be the main communication between the owner and the dog.
What do I mean? 🤔
Well for instance when your dog is taking you for a walk with a tense lead this is called oppositional reflex, you pulling back on the lead is communicating to the dog to pull forward therefore reinforcing ”pulling back=pulling forward” 🚫
You may wonder why your words go in one ear and out the other the moment a lead is attached to your dogs collar but listens to every word you say without?😵💫
The simple explanation is because your dog has learned this behaviour over time because it hasn’t been corrected from the start. The lead going on means there’s a goal in mind like getting outside to a new environment with more distractions, whether it be getting to the destination of the walk, or they know once they get to a destination, they may be allowed off leash and just want to get there faster. 🐾🐕🦺
For less stressful walks all it takes is:
1- well timed corrections (direction changes, pops of the collar, walking in the way of their path to teach them to always watch where you are going
2-rewards/positive reinforcement (treats or toys, marking words like “yes”/“good boy”/”good girl”
3-consistency: Rome wasn’t built in a day

Brilliant time out with my wee pup Lilo and this beautiful Doberman named Kobi 🐾
Both pups enjoyed a long walk and an off the lead run about with careful supervision, which ended with a little dip in the water to cool down😊
Could not have asked for a better pup to call my own🐾🐾 very sorry for the poor camera quality it will be getting fixed soon lol

Meet Bill, a very energetic, fun-loving beautiful 1 year old pup
Helen contacted me telling me she needed help with this young pup walking on the lead. He likes to take you for a walk instead of you taking him and just wants to interact with every human and dog in his path so it was my job to help cut that out!
This is Bill roughly half an hour in to the session and let me tell you, this is a big difference from when we first started.
It is important when training a puppy or dog that you be as consistent with it as you would teaching your child to ride a bike or teaching them a new skill, if they don’t get it the first or second time do you just give up? Nope, you keep trying until they finally get it.
If you think you need help with training, no matter the problem, give our page a follow and a message to book yourself in.
