☑️Leash training☑️
When training a dog to walk on a leash it is important to understand that the lead should be the main communication between the owner and the dog.

What do I mean? 🤔

Well for instance when your dog is taking you for a walk with a tense lead this is called oppositional reflex, you pulling back on the lead is communicating to the dog to pull forward therefore reinforcing ”pulling back=pulling forward” 🚫

You may wonder why your words go in one ear and out the other the moment a lead is attached to your dogs collar but listens to every word you say without?😵‍💫
The simple explanation is because your dog has learned this behaviour over time because it hasn’t been corrected from the start. The lead going on means there’s a goal in mind like getting outside to a new environment with more distractions, whether it be getting to the destination of the walk, or they know once they get to a destination, they may be allowed off leash and just want to get there faster. 🐾🐕‍🦺

For less stressful walks all it takes is:
1- well timed corrections (direction changes, pops of the collar, walking in the way of their path to teach them to always watch where you are going
2-rewards/positive reinforcement (treats or toys, marking words like “yes”/“good boy”/”good girl”
3-consistency: Rome wasn’t built in a day

If you are having trouble or struggling to train your dog on the leash, contact us now and we can have them walking stress free 📞📲

Our 1-2-1 training sessions are specially designed to allow you as the owner better understand the behaviours and challenges an owner faces when owning a dog🐕‍🦺

We provide step by step demonstration and walkthroughs to show you the correct ways to handle, train and reward good behaviours whilst also cutting out the behaviours we are trying to change🐾

If you are being walked and not the walker, your dog laughs at you in the face of distractions but listens when no one is around, or just all around obedience needs to be better… it’s not a problem to us, contact us now and we will start your training journey together‼️

Brilliant time out with my wee pup Lilo and this beautiful Doberman named Kobi 🐾

Both pups enjoyed a long walk and an off the lead run about with careful supervision, which ended with a little dip in the water to cool down😊

Great fun in the park this morning with our furry friends🐾🐶

That weather is amazing but let’s think about ours precious k9 friends during this time of heat.

It is very important to keep them cool and hydrated during peak temperatures so if you have a pup like mine who refuses to drink, follow this little trick we learnt from an amazing app the kids are using called Tiktok.

Shops like Home Bargains, B&M Bargains, pound shops sell cooler blankets and toys to help keep your pup cool and not overheat.

Restrict your walking to morning or evening when the suns not at full intensity so the ground doesn’t sizzle the skin on your doggies paws 🐾

Think… if you’re too hot… so are they

Is your dog showing signs of aggression? Towards people, children, other dogs or just for the sake of it?

Not catching or correcting signs of aggression early will have a massive impact on the way your dog grows up and deals with everyday situations. Whether it be a little growl or all out war when these situations arise, it’s about how you handle it as the owner as well.

Incorrect methods for aggression are often taught to dogs and you wonder why the dog is still the way it is or if not.. worse!

If we learn to read our dogs body language, behaviours and how they react in all these different situations then we can then learn to stop the situation from happening before it becomes a problem.

If you feel you can’t get through to your dog and stop their aggression, I can. Book in now and let us help you to live your best life with your K9

Why regular exercise is important for your k9…

Apart from the obvious fact that it keeps them in shape, exercise gives them mental stimulation which can help prolong their lives.

Frequent and regular exercise for your dog means they will be less susceptible to the likes of arthritis, obesity, complete laziness or issues with their behaviour (in puppy terms.. chewing the furniture or your favourite pair of slippers). But did you know your dog can also experience signs of depression due to not enough or non frequent mental stimulation knocking time off their already short but sweet lives.

Here at A New Leash of Life, the services we provide allows your dog to get that extra hour of fitness, that extra couple of minutes a day of mental stimulation, the social aspect, the rapport building between dog and owner to better know your dog and how to understand their behaviours.

We are now offering fitness sessions for your furry friend to come and enjoy a bit of running about with a few activities to brighten their day and have them tired out for going home again.

Contact us on this page or message me on 07724834656 to book in now

Attention☀️☀️

Due to the high temperatures forecasted for some days next week I will be taking bookings weather permitting for walking during either morning hours or evening hours only, this is because it would be extremely dangerous to over exercise a dog during extreme heat in peak afternoon hours, the hot pavement could also burn the dogs paw padding. I will extend my walking times to accommodate this just drop me a message😊

Thank you for understanding

Meet Luna, The 10 month old energetic Blue Staffy full of love, friendliness and charisma.

Luna can get easily distracted and pull on the lead towards other dogs thinking it’s playtime, therefore we decided to work on her recall as well as leash training to cut out the behavioural instinct that all other dogs will want to play when approached.

Although Luna is only here for a sleepover there is no harm in teaching her a new behaviour skill to impress her mummy tomorrow!
This was Lunas progression in just one 30 minute session, well done Luna😊

Over the past number of years since the beginning of the pandemic, I have spent countless hours thinking and working on what my next step will be for my career plans. Recently I have made
the decision of persuing what I enjoy and what I am immensely passionate about which is the love for animals, primarily dogs.

I am currently completing a diploma in dog training where I am due to be a certified and accredited dog trainer within the next couple of weeks, however in the meantime I am now offering
services in the local area such as dog walking, minding as well as a few other surprises still to be announced.

A bit about me:

My name is Alan. I am almost 22 years of age with a 1 year old labrador-springer of my own whom I have trained every day from she was introduced into our family at 8 weeks old. I have a lot of previous/current
experience in dog training where I have successfully trained a few other dogs owned by friends and family. I am specialising in areas such as dog behaviour training, basic and advanced dog
training as well as tricks and basic commands.

Whether your K9 be 10 weeks or 10 years old, it's never too late to teach them a new skill. If you feel you would benefit from my service, Please get in touch now with the information provided below.
