Do better.

This is disgusting. It’s incredibly apparent that you’re failing to provide proper care to the living creatures who depend on you. And you still charged full retail to the kind person that saved the fish from this horribly toxic cup.

Once again, Meijer in Plainwell, MI continues to fail at providing proper care for their fish. Dead bettas, dirty cups, LARGE amounts of dead fish overall… it’s just disgusting.

The manager for this area of the store is very flippant and rude whenever it’s addressed too. Zero signs of caring or desire to change.

Stop. Selling. Live. Fish.

Not all bettas handle community tanks well, but Bubbles is the perfect gentleman. He has some conditions that make it harder for him to see, and his gills are permanently damaged from his life before rescue. ❤️

This handsome guy is still looking for his forever home! Fireball arrived to us with his belly fin torn clean off. He’s since grown some magnificent, flowing fins and is ready to find his family!

Fireball would prefer a 10g tank. He’s very active and loves to explore. He will greet you anytime you approach and loves meal time.

Speck arrived to his new home in Oregon on Friday and has settled in to his 20g community tank perfectly! Not all bettas do well in community tanks, but Speck’s gentle personality made him the perfect addition! 😍

Ignore the floaties from the water stir up, but we added some cherry shrimp to one of our vacant tanks last night! They’ve been having a grand old time cleaning up all the plant waste from the floaters above! I really love watching them already!

If anyone is interested in adding Malaysian Trumpet Snails or Ramshorn snails to their tanks, we have plenty available! No adoption fee. Just cover shipping if required!

These snails do reproduce asexually, but are excellent cleanup and maintenance crews as well. Malaysian Trumpets bury themselves in your substrate, removing toxic gas buildup. Ramshorns are excellent at removing any decaying plant matter, food waste, and algae from your tanks. Neither will overrun your tank if you maintain a balanced feeding regimen.

We welcome these snail species in our tanks and are happy to share them with others! 😍

Couldn’t stop thinking about one of the bettas we saw in those dirty cups yesterday. He was floating on his side and clearly struggling. Our betta tanks are full (lots are seeking new homes!!) so we reached out to another SW Michigan betta rescue to assist, and they have a space for him!

The GM I spoke to yesterday agreed to give me the fish, so he’s with me now and will be arriving to the other rescue tomorrow! Think happy thoughts for him, as he starts his road to recovery. ❤️

Today I stopped by a Meijer store in Indiana and found at least half a dozen betta fish in disgustingly dirty cups. I called for assistance twice, and no one came. So I cleaned their cups myself, using the filtered water from the store’s primary tank system. It took me a mere 3-5 minutes at the most to transfer each fish to clean water and scrub their cups out. Stores like this have NO excuse to neglect such a simple task. It takes almost no time at all, yet they let these poor fish sit in their own filth for weeks at a time.

Before leaving the store, I was able to locate a GM and have a conversation with her about their neglect. I did inform her that I cleaned the cups myself as well.

Speak up for the little guys when you see things like this. They deserve to be noticed and cared for. ❤️

Does your betta share a tank with any other inhabitants? Some of our bettas share their tank space with Mystery Snails, Nerite snails. Ramshorn snails, and even a few Malaysian Trumpet snails!

Below is one of our rescued Mysteries. 🐌 💛

Please note, not all bettas will tolerate tank mates. We always watch very carefully after introduction, to ensure they are not going to harm the snail at all. ☺️

This beautiful boy is looking for his forever tank! He’s a gorgeous coral-pink color with red accents, and has the prettiest crystal blue eyes! His fins have finally recovered and grown back over the last couple months and he is ready to be adopted!

When he arrived on 12/28, his belly fin was ripped clean off. It’s now grown back almost entirely, and is still growing!!

Fireball is looking for a new home! He is very active, very sassy, and would prefer a larger tank for his forever home (10g+).
