Everyone, say hello to Harvey, a strong and determined pup who is beginning his canine rehabilitation journey following a diagnosis of arthritis and IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). 🐾💪

While these conditions can be challenging, Harvey is ready to take on this journey with courage and heart. With lots of love and support, he’s working toward improved mobility, comfort, and a better quality of life.

Everyone, meet Dakota, a brave and determined pup who is embarking on her canine rehabilitation journey following a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) procedure. 🐾💪

Recovery takes time, patience, and a lot of hard work, but Dakota is ready to take on this challenge with strength and resilience. With the support of her dedicated rehab team and all of us cheering her on, she’s on the path to getting back to her happy, active self!

🐾 PART 3: Preventing IVDD & Protecting Your Pup 🐾

While IVDD isn’t always preventable, there are steps you can take to reduce the risk:

1️⃣ Manage Weight 🍖 – Extra pounds put stress on your dog’s spine. A healthy diet and regular exercise are key!
2️⃣ Support Spine Health 📏 – Use ramps for furniture and avoid activities that stress their back, like jumping or rough play.
3️⃣ Regular Vet Checkups 🩺 – Early detection can make all the difference.

🐾 PART 1: What is IVDD? 🐾
💡 Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is a common spinal condition in dogs that can cause pain, mobility issues, or even paralysis. It happens when the cushioning discs between the vertebrae in the spine degenerate or herniate, pressing on the spinal cord.

✨ Symptoms to watch for:

🐾 Sudden reluctance to jump or climb stairs
🐾 Weakness or wobbliness in the legs
🐾 Crying out in pain or sensitivity when touched
🐾 Loss of bladder/bowel control

Certain breeds, like Dachshunds, French Bulldogs, and Corgis, are more prone to IVDD, but it can affect any dog. 🐶 If you notice these signs, prompt action is key!

💨🐾 It’s National Passing Gas Day! Let’s talk about something that makes every pet parent giggle (or groan): doggie t***s!

While it’s normal for pups to pass gas occasionally, excessive gassiness could be a sign of dietary issues or digestive discomfort. At Pawsitive Impact, we know that gut health plays a big role in your dog’s overall well-being—especially during rehabilitation.

Here are a few tips to reduce those noisy (and smelly) moments:
1️⃣ Feed a high-quality, easily digestible diet.
2️⃣ Avoid table scraps and gas-inducing foods.

Remember Abby our gun shot victim (because people are terrible)? She is doing great! The first video is from her first rehab appt and the second video is her now! She is movin’ and groovin’! Go Abby go!

When Ace first started canine rehabilitation he was unable to walk and his parents had to use a sling to help him get around but after 6 sessions of canine rehab he is now walking unassisted!! Go Ace go!!

Kali is doing so well with her obstacle course and getting stronger by the day!! Go Kali Go!!

Ella did so well with the obstacle course this week! She is getting stronger every day!!
