It was a real honor to be able to participate in the “Falconry Chronicles” podcast, hosted by Jonathan Munnnier. And an even bigger honor that he released it on national dachshund day! This podcast has been a great representation for falconry in general, and very informative for new and experienced falconers alike. Thanks Jonathan for producing this great falconry resource.

ABC News Detroit Picked up the story and did another story on us tonight. We are again honored for the opportunity to participate in the preparations for the NFL draft. And happy to serve the city and people of Detroit!
Based near Lansing, Paul Thomas and his wife Terese have been hired by Bedrock Detroit to keep away pesky pigeons and starlings and their p**p to keep downtown clean before fans arrive for the draft.

How I love getting these reports from Teddy on how Kip is doing. Rabbit season is drawing to a close, and she is already out catching woodchucks with young Blackhawk Kip Von Moritz. She has done so much for us over the years by putting great dogs in our hands. It’s an honor to put one back in hers!
12/03/2024
It was a real honor to be asked to participate in this tribute to Teddy Moritz. She has changed the landscape of rabbit hawking, by pioneering these dachshunds into falconry. I’m sure she’ll be embarrassed hearing all these falconers singing her praises, but no one is more deserving.

Another installment from Teddy on how useful a small dog like Kip is in the field. Love hearing stuff like this!
So I’m curious, what are your favorite hunting memories with a dachshund? Tell me about a time when your dachshund really impressed you in the field!
13/02/2024
If anyone is interested, these 3 dachshunds need a home. They all come from Moritz origin. Some DNA from Blackhawk “Turq”. Some DNA from Eliya lines. But all go back to von Moritz in the back ground. The male is older but would probably make a good stud dog for someone interested in breeding. And the bitch is only 4 years old and has a lot of hunting left in her im sure.
If your interested you can contact me and I will put you in touch with the owner.

Over the years we have had the honor of doing several breeding collaborations with Teddy Moritz. To the point that much of our dogs DNA is intertwined.
So there are occasions where we’ve asked her to put “Blackhawk” on the registered name of a dog she’s bred. And where she’s asked us to put “Von Moritz” on a dog that we’ve bred.
One of the biggest benefits of this arrangement is that we get frequent updates of how those dogs we send are doing.
If anyone is wondering, even at 70+ years old she embarrasses us with how hard she hunts. It’s not just rabbit season. She starts sending us woodchuck kills and recounting of the days hunts in July. And they come every few days….non stop clear into rabbit season, where they are quickly replaced with daily rabbit hunts.
She sent me this video today of a the stud dog named Blackhawk “Kip” Von Moritz. I asked her if she minded if I share this to our Blackhawk Falconry Dachshunds page.
From the sounds of it Kip is already siring litters at Teddys, and if you get a dog from teddy in the near future, odds are high that young Kip may be on half that pedigree.
It’s a real honor for us at Blackhawk that she entrusted us with some of those first longhairs 25 years ago, and that she considers the dogs we are breeding today, as worthy of her kennels.
It’s a friendship we value highly, as I know it is for many other falconers who have built a friendship and bond with her around these wonderful little wiener dogs.

What a great time we had at this Wolverine dachshund clubs, AKC trials !!! We didn’t find the blue ribbon this weekend, but MAN was there some GOOD dogs there! Jersey took 2nd, both the days we ran him in the field champion dog class. 18 dogs the first day and 14 dogs the second day.
Wenja got a 4th and a 3rd in the field Champion Bitch class. And our two youngest dogs took a series of 4th placements in open classes.
The people at this trial were so great! Wolverine had a hard few years when they were forced to find new grounds. But the grounds at Red Cedar Beagle club are WAY better than the old Detroit Beagle club grounds! Thanks Nancy Baronas and the Wolverine Dachshund club for putting on another great trial! 😊

Here are some really great photos of a Blackhawk dog named “Guinness” who is owned by Matt McGrath in Canada.
Matt took this eyass Goshawk this spring and is now manning it to his dog. This bird will grow up knowing the dog who will eventually flush rabbits for it.
Well done Matt!

Normally I try to keep our videos short and action packed. I figure people are more likely to watch a 3 minute video. But for this one I decided to leave out the music and transitions and try to showcase more of the dog work, and what a typical hunt looks like with our cast of three Harris hawks over Blackhawk Falconry Dachshunds

Time capsule!!
This aluminum bucket has something very special in it!
20 years ago, Bill Boler and I put together a breeding between his bitch ”Sunni” and a stud dog that I bred named “Blue”.
The breeding produced a Blue eyed red dapple male that Bill Boler decided to keep. We ran this fiery little male for 2-3 years. His only flaw was that he was TOO GOOD for practical hunting! He’d be up flushing rabbits 100 yards ahead of the hawks and other dogs.
I was about 24 back then, and as the young falconer and low man on the totum pole, I was often the one tasked with running him down. He was impossible to call off a hot track. He might as well be deaf, as all the yelling and threats I could utter never even caused him to break stride.
He was eventually sold to teddy Moritz and sent out East to be bred to several females from Teddy moritz’s line. As those puppy’s sired by him began to develop, it was apperant that he was a very special stud!
Many of the dachshunds, bred for falconry to this day have this very special dog in the back ground of their pedigree.
At least in falconry circles who follow these hunting lines, he may be the most famous dachshund of mention. This stud passed away about 5-6 years ago, and hadn’t been bred in about 15 years.
His name? Blackhawk True Blue Patriot aka “TURQ”!
And outside of a vile or two that teddy Moritz herself has tucked away, inside this bucket is what I believe to be the last of his semen on the planet!
I plan on putting it in my best field bitch “Wenja” next year. If it takes, they will be the first TURQ PUPPYS born in over 15 years!
This very special time capsule is currently on its way home to Blackhawk!

So proud of Blackhawk “Kip” Von Moritz! This is the stud we sent Mrs. Teddy Moritz last summer. Kip got his field championship today after winning his class. Then he went on to defeat the open bitch, and the winning field champion, to win “Absolute”!
Kip FC’d with 3 first places, 1 second place, several best of opens, and today an Absolute.
Kip was bred by Blackhawk partner Richard Hoof

A great day two, for Blackhawk Falconry Dachshunds at the AKC field trials!
Blackhawk They Come to S***f the “Rooster”
1st place Open Dog
Blackhawk The Ghost of “Gibson” 3rd place
Gavin (9 years old) handled Blackhawk Sweep the Leg No ”Mercy” and took 1st place out of 11 in open Bitch
And Terese Thomas took 3rd place with Blackhawk Karma Comes Around
Also Teddy Moritz took 2nd place with Blackhawk Kip Von Moritz over in Pennsylvania today! He was called back high dog, but the gallery accidentally bumped another rabbit as they were walking up to the line. Poor Kip saw it, and as soon as he was released, he ran back to where he saw the rabbit and dropped a spot. But then he held on for 2nd!
Great weekend overall for falconers dogs!l

Blackhawk They Come to Snuff the “Rooster” This pup (10 months) is really starting to put it together! Just under 6 pounds and almost full grown. I hadn’t done much with him this summer as he was almost 3 months younger than the other spring pups I kept. So I’d been focusing on the older pups. But over the last month, I’ve been letting rooster get in on the action and he’s quickly caught up to the older dogs in ability, and he looks to have a high ceiling for improvement as he gets more field time. I love how honest he is. He makes sure he has the next spot before he advances the line. Radar x Tulsi Bred by Richard Hoof
