25 Years of Promises Kept. Fostering is an incredibly powerful way to help animals who have no other hope. When a dog or cat is lost, alone, and homeless, there are not a lot of good things on the horizon for them. They are hungry, dehydrated, and scared, there are no toys, no warm blankets, no food, and no one knows their name. They are alone. When you open your heart and your home to a homeless pet, their life and their future is changed forever. Fostering is not just life-changing. It is life-saving. As a PetPromise Foster you provide a safe home, food, and love…until a forever family is found. And to a cat or dog that has been shooed away, abused, ignored, and otherwise forgotten….it is the greatest gift that you can give. Fostering is lifesaving. Become a PetPromise Foster and change the world for a homeless cat or dog today. https://www.petpromise.org/foster

PETPROMISE is celebrating 25 years of saving the lives of homeless pets in our community. PetPromise was officially incorporated on Feb 4, 2000. CELEBRATING 25 YEARS of PROMISES KEPT.

We promise to help the pets who are in the most need - homeless, in shelters on death row and who have special needs.

The heart in our logo and the “Promise” in our name are symbols our commitment to the animals in our care to change their world for the better. Life for Pets. Pets for Life.

FIRST RESCUE: (The Valentine Rescue) Cynthia Carson, one of the founding member of PetPromise, was working as an attorney at Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur law firm on February 14, 2000 when a call came in to the firm asking for help with dogs and puppies that were being abused in Chillicothe Ohio. Cynthia, along with another lawyer and paralegal from Porter Wright packed up for the evening and with Paul Carson headed down to Chillicothe, Ohio to check out the situation.

It was horrible. A cold freezing rain plummeted down around the farm house and in the pen in the backyard we saw the face of a Doberman dog peeking out from an Igloo dog house begging for help. As we walked closer four other little faces: black and brown and red puppy faces, popped out to see and trembling with cold and fear. The puppies and their mother were sitting in a pen filled with freezing water and their dog igloo was also full of water. It was raining, freezing. They were all cold, starving, and scared. The mother (we later named Rose) came out wiggling all over happy to see people that could help.

The puppies were semi-feral having had little to no human contact and growled and huddled back into the dark water-filled plastic igloo dog house. The male Doberman (later named Cupid) was chained to a tree near the pen with no shelter at all and wiggled and jumped toward us with happiness when we went to see him. Rose and Cupid were so happy to see people. They wiggled all over but they were like canine skeletons. It was horrific. We found the owners and convinced them to relinquish the dogs and puppies (Romeo, Valentine, Red, & Scout) to us.

We saved her lives. They would not have survived that cold February night in the freezing water that had flooded their pen. We knew then that this was what PetPromise, was all about. All of the rescued dogs and puppies went on to be adopted and to become loving family members. *Romeo, the least socialized of the puppies, was a foster fail to Ben and Jennifer Fredritz (another PetPromise founding member).

This was the first rescue of PetPromise just 10 days after its incorporation on February 4, 2000. The first instance of PetPromise keeping its pet “Promise” to help homeless and abused pets to have hope for a better life.

Sweet little Ruby was born on May 2, 2024, along with her two sisters and two brothers under a chicken coop. When she was barely two weeks old Ruby’s Mama left her kittens and something happened because she didn’t come back.

The neighbors heard kittens crying under the coop but there was nothing that they could do….until that night when the babies started to crawl out trying to find food and warmth. It was very cold that week especially for May. Ruby was the first to make it out. Her eyes were barely open, she was cold and starving. Her litter mates were close behind, barely able to walk…wet, cold and hungry.

When PetPromise arrived after hearing about these kittens, little Ruby was the first one to cry out when we picked her up…she nuzzled into our blanket…wet and cold and crying. One of her brothers had died before we arrived…and the second little boy died as we raced to get them help.

Ruby was the first to love people and the first to our…and she purred every time she was picked up even as a baby. She was the smart, active little one…learning to climb up the bed to cuddle with a person, the one to lead the others to the warm bed for sleep.  Today, because she was fed from a bottle by people since her eyes opened, she is a people cat. She loves everyone and purrs as soon as someone holds her or pets her. She loves other cats and is playful...but when it is time to nap or sleep she will find a person to cuddle with. She is so smart and is watching whatever a person does and follows them around trying to be part of everything. She is the gentle cuddler that loves to play but will choose to come over and sit quietly with a person if you are there.  As soon as you pick her up she purrs and purrs.  She isn’t happier than when she is with a person cuddling.

If you can open your heart and home to her and promise to keep her safe and loved for the next 15-20 years, please complete an on-line Adoption Application: https://form.jotform.com/223107373504044 !

!!!!UPDATE: We have two potential adoption applications for Darwin thanks to ALL of your help! He’s never received a single application since he came into the program and now we have two amazing people wanting to open their hearts to him!!!! Watch for updates!

648 DAYS. That is how long sweet Darwin has been waiting for a home of his own. He was rescued on April 2, 2023 as a sweet young happy boy that was left to fend for himself near the Ohio State University living near a dumpster and finding what food he could going from apartment to apartment begging for whatever he could get.

Everyone loved him...the cute little tuxedo cat who lived in the neighborhood...everyone loved him but no one helped him. One kind soul finally scooped him up and contacted PetPromise (she already had her own houseful of cats)...so we agreed to take him into the program. He was the sweetest most loving boy. He loved everyone he met...he had personality PLUS! And look at that face!

So we were all devastated for him when we found out he was FIV+ when he went to the vet for his check up and vaccines. We were devastated, not because he has FIV (with a comfortable indoor life, a good routine, regular vet checks (especially good dental checks) FIV+ kitties can live as long as any other cat. We were devastated because we knew that this would mean that Darwin would probably be overlooked when people picked their new family member. And our fears were correct.

To make it worse, because Darwin's foster had a number of other cats that were not happy about having Darwin in their home) he has to stay in a room by himself. (FIV+ cats CAN live with other none FIV+ cats if they get along and do not fight---FIV is only passed through bite wounds).

Over the last 648 days, Darwin has been to many adoption events and he is the star of the show! He is friendly, rubbing on his cage, rolling over, so happy to be out with everyone...and trying desperately to get someone to love him and take him home. But again and again...other cats get chosen and Darwin goes home to his bedroom and waits for his day to come to be part of a family.

So we are asking for help getting the word out about this sweet little guy so that he can finally have a home of his own and be a part of a family. 648 days is too long to be waiting. If you are interested in adopting Darwin, or want more information about him please complete an on-line adoption application at: https://www.jotform.com/form/223107373504044

And please, if you can't adopt..share this boy's story and help him finally find a home!

7 UP is a sweet little girl who is so people focused, she wants to be with you always. 7 Up was bottle fed as a tiny kitten and is super attached to people. Bottle babies are called “velcro cats” for a reason - they love to be touching you! She will be the biggest baby and the best friend you will ever have! If you love snuggles, and love to be doted on by someone...this little girl is for you!

7 UP had crystals in her bladder and needed surgery to remove them and the surgery to remove the bladder stones was successful. This is not unheard of in cats...and while she will need to be on a special urinary diet and will need to be watched for signs of bladder stones she will live a totally normal, healthy and loving life with the person who promises to love her for the rest of hers.

As long as she is fed the correct wet/dry food, 7 UP should not have a major event but any adopter needs to understand her dietary needs.

Please do not overlook 7 UP for her medical issues. She is the sweetest, most loving, little girl we know and she has been passed around from foster home to foster home waiting for someone to pick her.

If you can give this little tortie girl what she has been waiting for her whole life, please complete an Adoption Application today at: https://www.jotform.com/form/223107373504044

Happy Holidays from Goldie, one of our fosters!

Goldie is 1-2 year old Boxer mix, around 40-45lbs. She was found in October roaming the streets of Italian Village in Columbus. She was starving….just bones…she had been neglected for a while and was living outside on her own for a while. Luckily, a caribg couple couldn’t just leave out there so they took her in and asked PetPromise to help find her a fire ver family.
While she's been with us, we've learned she is very snuggly, loves to run and play with other dogs, loves toys and chewing on bones. She's always up to go on a walk, hike or sit with people while they read or watch tv. She is also has been a great coworker for anyone who works from home; the girl loves a cozy spot to snooze.
She is the sweetest perfect dig and she deserves a home of her own where she will be loved forever.
If you or anyone you know are looking for a new family member, please apply to meet her at PetPromise.org and complete please complete an on-line Adoption Application at: https://www.jotform.com/form/223107373504044

Darwin’s story begins on the streets of Linden, where he was found all alone, struggling to survive. When first found, he was barely surviving — covered in scars, starving, and with a desperate sad look in his eyes. But despite everything he had been through, there was something undeniably special about him. He looked up as if saying, “I can’t keep going but I am so tired and hungry...please help me.”

When he was picked up and carried to a warm car...it was like he knew he would be okay. He relaxed, looked up at his rescuer, laid his little head down and went to sleep and he never looked back. Now in temporary foster home, Darwin has blossomed into the most affectionate little companion. His raspy meow is the sweetest sound, like a whisper of gratitude for being rescued after being lost and alone and hungry for so long.

And then just when we all thought that finally the sweetest boy (giving head butts to his rescuers in the car before drifting off to sleep the day he was rescued....we found out that this sweet boy had FIV. But FIV is certainly not a death sentence (FIV kitties can live happy long lives, just like people with AIDs) if cared for properly.

But the sad thing about his FIV status is that this sweet friendly super love bug of a boy may never get “picked” to be adopted because of his FIV+ status. People don’t understand that these babies can love and deserve a good happy life in a home where someone will love them even though they aren’t perfect.

He loves people with all his heart, he’ll follow you around, never far from your side....he never wants to be alone again! Whether it’s curling up next to you on the couch or giving you his version of a “talking” meow, Darwin will always remind you that he will love you forever if you’ll only give him the chance.

His playful energy and endearing personality make him impossible not to love. He may have had a tough start, but now all he wants is to be your best friend. Give him the love he deserves, and he’ll make your world a whole lot brighter.

If you could open your heart to sweet Darwin please complete an online adoption application at: https://www.jotform.com/form/223107373504044

Sweet little Chia was all alone in the world. She was just a baby kitten when she was dumped along in a parking lot of a hotel on the West side of Columbus. It was a hot hot August day and she went from door to door crying until a man came out. She was crying so hard he thought she was hurt and hurt bad. The rescuer called us and we picked the baby up immediately. We checked her over and could find nothing wrong with her. And as we were checking her she started to purr. And purr and purr. She was just terrified, hungry and was asking for help.

Chia is one of the sweetest kittens you will ever meet. She is being fostered with three other little girl kittens that are just about the same age and she has become part of their “litter.” They all wrestle and play...and when the foster comes into the room they all go running to be cuddled and held. Chia loves everyone she meets. She can’t help but purr when she is with a person or when she is being petted. She does great with the other kittens. She is full of life and the cutest little girl you will ever meet. If you can open your heart to this baby and commit to keeping her safe for the next 15-20 years, please complete and on-line Adoption Application at: https://www.jotform.com/form/223107373504044 ...and bring this little girl home forever!

UPDATE!!!!! LUIGI is going to a new home with a Mom & Dad and a feline sister, Sweet Pea! Watch for updates as he comes out of the basement into his new life!

LUIGI needs your help! Luigi was adopted in June 2019 and has been happy living in his home until his human sibling was diagnosed with severe allergies to cats. Because of this, Luigi has been put in a basement and has been living alone there for months. We didn’t know this was the situation until his owners contacted us and told us what was happening! We need to help this sweet boy!

This is where you come in! We need to find someone to foster him while we get his vet care updated and while we work to find him a a home where he can live as part of a family again. His owners say he has become withdrawn since moving him into the basement (can you blame him?). So we need to get him out as soon as possible. Can you help us by completing foster application to foster him temporarily while we find him a loving forever home? Do you know of someone who would be a good adopter or foster for him? Tag them, please and share!

He is gentle, loving and a VERY handsome red tabby..ginger tabbies are the best! IYKYK!

His info:
Friendly, loving, does well with other cats.

DOB: @ 6/11/2018
S*x: Male
Size: Medium
Color: Ginger Orange Tabby
Personality: Friendly & Loving, withdrawn since living in the basement. Used to be happy and full of life. Good with cats, afraid of energetic dogs.

If you can open your heart and your home (temporarily as a foster or as a forever adopter of this boy to rescue Luigi from his current situation) please complete an online foster application at: https://form.jotform.com/223110778478057

Meet Roo. She is the sweetest little girl. Still a kitten and she has been delt a bad hand already. She was just a baby and out on the street trying to find food in dumpsters, behind people’s homes, crying out for food and help. Finally someone noticed her and called her and the sweet baby went running right to the rescuer.

Roo is the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet. She loves every person she meets and purrs loudly when you walk into a room. She is gentle and loving but when we took her in we got news that no one wants to hear: She tested positive for FIV. This is devastating ...not because it is a death sentence for her, but because many people will not even consider adopting her now. She has been hopefully looking at and pawing at people at events...hoping someone will consider her...but she is looked over again and again.

Please don’t be scared off by her FIV + status! Don’t let it keep you from considering the very sweet girl. FIV+ cats can live long healthy lives if they are in a calm environment. They can even live with cats without FIV since as long as they don’t fight, the FIV is not spread. She just needs her own home and her own person.

Poor little Roo (still a kitten, really) is currently living in a cage because the foster has other cats that are a little aggressive and that isn’t fair to sweet Roo. This is so sad because she is so friendly and social - Can you be her hero and give her the life she fought to have? Apply here :

HELP SAVE NOAH’s EYE! Noah is a BIG, sweet, gentle soul who has endured more than any cat should ever have to endure. Left behind when his owners moved away, he became part of a community of cats that were cared for by some neighbors who put food out for him and allowed him to sleep in their garages, patios, and decks. Everyone knew Noah the big buff chunky boy who loved everyone he met.

Then one evening while eating on the porch of one of the neighbors that put out food for Noah, two dogs broke into the screened-in patio and mauled Noah. The homeowners heard Noah screaming and and ran out to help. Desperate to save Noah, they scared the dogs off and rushed the bleeding and badly injured Noah to the emergency vet. He was in ICU for over a week and his prognosis was guarded. He wasn’t expected to survive the attack. But when he lifted his head and rubbed his face on the vet and began to purr, they knew he was going to make it. And he did.

But his story doesn’t end there…while fighting for his life, the veterinarians treating him found out he was FIV+ (not a death sentence at all, but they knew that it would mean that it would be harder for Noah to find a home after he recovered. ). And that is when PetPromise stepped in to help this boy with so much spirit and love. And he is the biggest sweetest boy there ever was. He loves other cats, he is gentle and kind…BUT he has one last step…

When he was attacked, he almost lost his right eye. The ER surgeons repaired it as best they could but as it healed the lid curled around into his eye and his lashes and the upper lid are poking into his eye. 💔

Our vetrtinarian has examined the damaged eye and has diagnosed Noah with Entropion: a condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the fur and lashes to rub against the cornea, leading to irritation, discomfort, and potential damage to the eye if left untreated. It is painful for him. He is still a happy boy…but his little eye waters and he keeps it closed most of the time because it is painful to have the lashes poking into his eye. He needs to have surgery to fix the eyelid so it doesn’t curl back into his eye. It is a complex surgery but will let him live a totally pain free and happy life! And then he will be ready for a home of his own.

The surgery will cost between $2,800-$3,600. And we need your help to get Noah the surgery he needs to live a long, happy and pain free life.

Noah has beat the odds and is doing amazing after recovering from the horrible attack—and with your support—Noah will thrive and be ready to be adopted into a home where he can live the life he has waited for.

🌟 Here’s How You Can Help Noah: 🌟
👉 Donate to fund his surgical treatment and ongoing care.
👉 Share his story to help us find more supporters who can contribute to repair his eye.

💖 Every donation, big or small, helps Noah move closer to the life he deserves—a life full of love, comfort, and happiness. 💖
