North Coast Clumbers is relocating! Breeding plans are on hold until we’re settled but all the dogs are healthy, happy and spoiled. The last two years have been full of surprises and we’ve been focused on keeping up with all the unexpected events and our work outside of dogs (as we’re not full-time breeders). As soon as we have definite plans, we’ll be sure to update everyone. In the meantime, stay well!

Prospective Clumber owners should know that our puppies come with a strong snoring gene. It’s one of the things we love about them.

After an adventurous travel from Amsterdam, we finally brought home our newest girl Vlasta White Stahl Ketti, who we call Wanda. Wanda is a wild child who sleeps hard and plays hard. Looking forward to getting in the show ring this summer! Breeding will be a few years away but we think she’ll be a strong addition to our breeding program.

Puppies are growing like weeds and are eating puppy mash like champs. Their personalities are starting to shine through. We notice new abilities and traits every day. We love being part of this process.

These first two weeks have been an adventure but everyone is doing well and gaining weight. Growing is exhausting so they’re all tucked in for a good night’s rest.

One of the most difficult things about being a breeder is losing puppies. We can do everything right and all the vet appointments in the world simply can't prevent it. Our litter of ten was a large litter for any dog, but especially so for a Clumber where the average litter size is five. And even in those litters of five, losses aren't that uncommon. On Saturday, we lost three puppies - two girls and a boy. We did everything we could to give them a chance, including two emergency vet visits, consulting our reproductive specialist and engaging other breeders to collaborate on possible treatment options. This first week is fraught with challenges and we're spending nearly every moment watching puppies, taking vitals and proactively managing any care needs. Please be patient if it takes a bit to get back to you. These are sleepless days for us. As of now, our waitlist is full for this litter however we'd welcome inquiries on future litters.

We had a litter of 10 puppies on August 27, 2020! Five boys and five girls. Everyone is home and resting.

We are back from a long overdue vacation and catching up on messages now. For those who have sent back a questionnaire, please give us a week or so to read through and respond. Deposits of $500 are required once the puppies are born (due August 28, 2020). Approved homes without a deposit cannot be guaranteed a puppy from this litter but we are happy to hold your application for a future litter.

We require all prospective puppy homes to fill out a questionnaire and sign a purchase contract. Please fill out the information below and include it with your message!

Questionnaire
Tell us about your family. Please list the names and ages of all humans and let us know of your current pets. Please list your pet's names, species (dog/cat/bird/rabbit/etc.), ages, gender and whether they’re spayed/neutered.

What are your living arrangements? Do you live in a house/apartment/condo/townhouse/mobile home? Do you own, rent or live with friends/family? Are there any dog restrictions or laws in your area?

Where will the dog spend most of its time? Where will the dog be when you are away/at home/sleeping? In a typical (non-COVID) work day, how long will the dog be alone?

Why a Clumber Spaniel? If you've never owned or met a Clumber before, what attributes and traits do you feel make this the perfect dog for your family? What other breeds have you considered during your puppy search?

Are you interested in a puppy for show or as a pet? How do you intend to train your Clumber for your goals? On your own or with a club/trainer?

Pet puppies are sold with a strict spay/neuter contract and show dogs are sold on a co-ownership condition. Please indicate your agreement to these terms.

How do you intend to cover the expense of any vet care (pet insurance/care credit/credit cards/savings/etc.)? Are you prepared for any unexpected veterinary expenses should they arise?

What questions do you have for me?

Have you or anyone in your household ever been charged with animal cruelty or had any animal taken away from you or any member of your household for suspicion of animal cruelty?

Please provide three non-family references (one of which must be your veterinarian if you currently own pets). Be sure to include their names, how they know you and their phone number. Please be sure to let them know to expect our call.
