It is cold outside. PLEASE make sure if you are feeding outdoor cats that they have shelters filled with STRAW! Resist the urge to give them blankets and cloth materials thinking it is warmer. It is NOT. Straw, not hay, has been used for thousands of years as an insulating material. It is a natural insulator. Straw is hollow, is inedible and does not retain moisture. It is resistant to mold and bacterial growth unlike hay that retains moisture and is edible. People are often concerned that the cats won't use the shelters; leave it there any way. Place it in a corner, tucked somewhere, under something or under an over hang. If it is cold or wet, it gives cats a safe place to rest and keep warm. This home owner was reluctant that the cats would use it. Within 24 hours, one of the feral cats was inside keeping warm.
It is the least we can do. Together we can make a difference.

With Motya at the vet right now. They are trying to do blood work again to approve her for dental.
