I scattered random seeds in a small section of the yard just to see what would pop up. 🌱 And now, behold, these stunning poppies have burst forth!✨
I’m imagining the delicate poppy blooms as earrings, their fiery reds and soft pinks adding a touch of natural elegance. 🌸💫

🌼 New Baby Girl Alert! 🌼
We’ve been a tad busy lately with our adorable addition. But fear not! Chris has been diligently tending to the flowers while we play window-watchers. 😂
Ranger, our sunbathing supervisor, keeps an eye on his work.
The zinnias are going wild! No watering since April’s end, and I’m betting the extended sun hours will bring even more floral magic. 🌸🌞

Celebrating the First Blooms!
🌸 The first flowers of the season have graced our garden! After the refreshing rain, we were delighted to find two tiny zinnias: Oklahoma White and Lilliput! 🌸
🌱 Seeing these early blooms is truly a treat! We’ll cherish their beauty as we patiently await the grand floral spectacle that awaits us next month. 🌿💕

🌱 Compost Tea: A Nutrient-Rich Elixir for Your Plants! 🌿

Compost tea is a nutrient-rich liquid fertilizer made from compost. When you steep compost in water, you extract billions of natural microorganisms. These tiny helpers include bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes—the microscopic essentials for plant growth. So, by using compost tea, you’re giving your plants a powerful nutrient boost! 🌱
Compost tea can be used as either a foliar spray or a soil drench. The best time to use it on the foliage is early morning or in the evening when the sun is no longer out. With our humid climate, we’re prone to foliar diseases especially when we don’t have adequate air circulation.
As for the soil drench, I like to use it right before a rain or before I water for the day.
Waste Reduction: We use our own compost to make the tea. Since I don’t have enough room (or desire 😅) to make compost the old fashioned way, we invested in a machine that does all the work for us! It’s called Lomi and we think it’s worth every penny.

Compost recipe:
-Mix about 1.5-2 cups of compost/ gallon of water in a 5 gallon bucket.
-Let it sit for about 5 days somewhere cool and dark, stir once per day.
-Strain into desired container with cheesecloth or mesh.
-Top off with water and get to spraying!

Plant Parenthood Chronicles 🌱
🤰 Week 39: The countdown is on! 🕒 Baby bump is blooming and so is the flower garden. 🌼
🌧️ Last week’s rain? Oh, it was like Mother Nature’s version of a spa day for our soil and perfect timing, too; everything is officially planted! 🌿
🌱 They say nesting kicks in during the final weeks of pregnancy. Well, my nesting instinct had me plant 476 seedlings/ seeds 🫣.
*Featured* Bill and Jean’s placemat with Ranger. Our new placemat will go with us to the markets when we start selling this summer!

Meet Penny and her resilient peonies! 🌿
Last year, I planted about 20 of these delicate blooms in pots while living in Little Rock. But fate had other plans—blight struck, and my peonies struggled. When we moved, I brought them along, but I’ll admit, I didn’t care for them as I should have. They ended up in some forgotten holes in our new yard.
Then, a few weeks ago, a delightful surprise awaited me. As I glanced over, I noticed tiny buds peeking through the soil. These three survivors had weathered snow storms, neglect and uncertainty. I dug them up and put them in fresh soil with some fungicide to prevent the blight and they’re looking fabulous! 🌸
So here’s to Penny’s peonies—symbols of resilience and second chances. May they bloom beautifully and inspire us all! 🌼💕✨

🌱 Here’s what we’ve done so far without breaking the bank:
🌼Seed Hoarding: With nearly 100 seed packets stashed away, we skipped buying new ones. Instead, we crossed our fingers and hoped for germination. 🌱💚
🌼Recycled Resources: The fabric and drip irrigation system from our Little Rock farm. Sustainability at its finest! ♻️🌿
🌼Compost Tea Magic: It’s our all-in-one fertilizer, pesticide and fungicide. Natural and cost-effective. 🌿🌼
