Severus the snake that is now finished and being packed up this week and next week, along with a few other orders and commissions 🐍🖤

I've been quiet due to being very very busy and still trying to create a usable work space at home since leaving my studio.
Due to other commitments at home I'm also only able to work on certain days a week so creating pieces is taking much longer than usual.

Today I'm photographing a small handful of wet specimens that I will be popping on my website either tonight or tomorrow evening 🤗

I started work on this glorious Snowflake Eel today who belongs to the talented 🖤🤍 Currently fixing away in a globe and will be ready to return home in about 6 weeks. This one was very difficult to position but I look forward to showing you all a photo when finished in a few weeks 🥰

Wet Specimens are and always will be my favourite part of this job but they are what I get the most hate for. I've been putting off doing any for a while for this reason but without blowing one's own trumpet, I'm f**king good at them. The other night I spent a few hours working on a bunch (mostly commissions) & I realised just how much I missed doing them. This is one of the little fetal bunnies I started last year that will be up on my website tonight at 8pm. I was sent several by a client and I'm returning 3 of them to him as a thank you 🖤

For those who have been asking, I will be doing more snake globes over the next month 🤍 As always I will keep people updated on my story as to when they will be available on my website. I found more snakes today that I forgot I had so I can't wait to start working on them once I've caught up on commissions a bit more 🥰 Wet Preservation will ALWAYS be my favourite type of specimen preservation 🤍

I will be wet preserving this cool dude sometime soon along with a bunch of other specimens. I'm getting dozens of messages a day from people wanting wet specimens and I promise I will have some soon.

With stacks of commissions to do and closing my studio down, I'm doing my best to get things done but there's only one of me and I can only go so fast ☺🖤🥀

A Death's Head frame I made & gifted to a couple friends of mine as their house warming/christmas present last year. Safe to say they loved it 🖤 I still have some DH moths ready to frame if any of you lovely people would like to commission one. You can literally have any text you like (swear words are ALWAYS welcome here) and you can even add dried flowers to it if you wish. There are a fair few examples on my IG feed ~ pop me an email. I'll be going through all of my emails tomorrow 🖤🥀

Whilst visiting Wollaton Hall and Deer Park today to discuss details for next year's Beautiful Death Art Exhibitions , I got to sneak in and see Titus, the T. Rex which is the first real T. Rex skeleton to be displayed in England for over 100 years! It really was a wonderful sight. I learnt quite a lot about this long gone creature from a helpful person there (I didn't get his name, but if he's reading this, thanks again). He even pointed out a mark in the tail which was from a bite from another T. Rex (It was too high for me to get a photo) ~ I'd highly recommend seeing this in person ~ it will be there until some time in 2022 🖤

I'm currently taking photos of the items I came home with at the weekend, but thank you to Monika from / .silicone for photographing this one for me as my photo space was nowhere near big enough 😂 All items including this one will be going up on my website tomorrow night at 8pm. This piece in particular will be collection or delivery only due to it's size and fragility. This measures 19 x 23 x 9 inches and so it's pretty hefty! ~ I did another floral frame this size with a taxidermy crow inside, however that one sold at the exhibition 🖤🥀

Bit late to the party but I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who came to at the weekend. Some travelled quite a distance to attend which I'm very grateful for. Also, I'm very proud of all the artists that took part. Their work was just amazing and I loved walking by guests hearing such positive things about the work on show. We had a fair few new artists this year and it has been lovely welcoming them to the BD family 🖤
I didn't come home with many pieces but tomorrow I'll be photographing everything and getting them up on my website.
There will be more than one event next year and once details have been finalised I will let everyone know the dates and locations :)
I'm taking today off to catch up on all my own everyday life stuff and then I'll be back to work tomorrow.

For those who are coming to Beautiful Death Art Exhibitions this weekend, you'll see this donation box, pin badges and leaflets for Target Ovarian Cancer on my table 💞 I've lost two close family members within 8 months of eachother in the last year, one of which was my Auntie who passed away last December due to this awful disease. Information on Ovarian Cancer doesn't get enough air time so all I want to do is spread the word. The symptoms are so easy to ignore as they're the same as many minor things. I hope to raise as much money as possible for Target Ovarian Cancer however if you are unable to donate, please please please take a leaflet. My Auntie passed her symptoms off as nothing and because she was caring for my Uncle (who died of Prostate Cancer in August) she put her own health issues on hold. Dawn died 7 months after finding out and watching her deteriorate so quickly was one of the worst things I've ever had to watch and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I really enjoy getting hold of old taxidermy mounts that need a bit of TLC and making them look presentable again. I'm in the middle of making a massive floral shadow box frame for this Squirrel and I can't wait to get it finished. I have another 2 large boxes to make for other mounts and I'm hoping my flowers dry out in time for me to get them done in time for Beautiful Death Art Exhibitions 😬 I swear time has sped up this last month 😅

I have been experimenting with different ways to make black roses without painting or spraying them and so far, so good! They are actually darker than this in person and once they're dried, they will be as close to black as it gets 🖤 I cannot wait to use these in future displays!

Also, I'm soon to be working on large scale floral shadow boxes and I can't tell you how excited I am for those!!

The Oleander hawk-moth (Daphnis nerii)
•
Adults feed on the nectar of a wide variety of flowers. They prefer fragrant species for flowers such as Jasmine, Petunia and Honeysuckle. They are particularly active at night time, hovering over the flowers after sunset.
The caterpillars feed mainly on Oleander leaves, a very toxic plant, which the caterpillars are immune to.
