Catching Up with Aspen’s Favourite Lakes, 8 months old!

- Hattrick’s ODR at Mabel Lake -

We have had Mabel for 7 months now, and she is a spicy little lady. We have nick named her the Mabel-ater as she has a magic ability to bring chaos to any situation. She has been a great addition to our family and is working hard to keep her siblings entertained 24 hours a day. We have been to 2 dog shows and attended a month of agility which was very fun, but Mabel couldn’t understand why she couldn’t just run around with Tuna. We are working on building confidence in new environments and situations, and she is VERY quickly figuring it all out. For as much as she loves being covered in mud and crazy, she loves nothing better than to curl up in your lap or pillow and getting a good snuggle in. We all love the Mab’s and can’t imagine our life without her!

Rocking Rolley was over for a visit while his family was on vacation! It’s crazy how genetics work! Rolley looks so much like his momma Aspen, sometimes we’d need to do a double take!

We’ve been keeping a secret over here! We welcomed a new member to our Hat Trick pack! Introducing Hattrick’s Rising Star from Tollchester , call name Lumen.

Lumen has made the long trip from Nova Scotia to be here with us. You will notice her colouring is a little different as she is a sable! She has made herself right at home and has even picked her person! We can’t wait to watch her grow up & be a shining star! 🌟

Catching Up with Aspen’s Favourite Lakes, 5 months old!

- Hattrick’s Wheeling at Stave -

Stave has been a wonderful addition to our family. He loves wrestling, playing fetch and zoomies with his brother Lux. He will share all of his toys except his duck toys, they are his and his alone. He still loves the water as much as he did when he was little.

We are off on our first camping trip of the year and can’t wait to see how he explores and enjoys new adventures.

Catching up with Aspen’s Favourite Lakes, 5 months old.

- Hattrick’s Family Reunion at Dutch Lake -

We’ve had Odin/Odie (previously Dutch) for a couple of months now and can’t imagine life without him. He has already doubled in size, and it seems like he grows as we’re watching him! Over twenty pounds at 17 weeks, we think he’ll be on the larger size for this breed.

Odin is an adorable, loving puppy who is more than happy to be a part of whatever you are doing (whether you like it or not!) but can also entertain himself with his stuffies, toys and chewies. Odie is one of the sweetest natured dogs ever. Not saying he can’t be a handful; he definitely can when it’s play time and you aren’t quite ready to play yet or he decides it’s time for the zoomies. It’s just hilarious watching him “zoom” around the back yard or the house at top speed for no apparent reason! He loves to help me garden, which usually looks like him undoing what I’m trying to do (e.g., helping to dig a hole where I just put a plant!).

We’re hoping Odin will go paddleboarding with my son when he is a bit older and we want him to be a kind friend to future rescue dogs, so we asked to have the calmest dog possible. We certainly got that in Odin. Odin was the most laid back of the litter and he is mostly calm and easy going - as long as you have regular play times and don’t leave him out of anything 😊 It’s pretty hard to leave him out of anything unless you literally put a door between him and you because he will always be in the middle of what you’re doing trying to make a game of it. However, you can do pretty much whatever you want with Odin without him getting irritated or anxious (e.g., he’s as comfortable lying on his back with feet up in the air as he is lying on his tummy; you can roll, flip, wrestle without him ever getting upset). Quite amazing, really.

Thank you to Hat Trick for doing so much of the socializing work for us. Odin is comfortable around loud noises, trucks, trains (they go behind our house), vacuums or people yelling. He sleeps through the night without waking us up. He is initially a bit reserved around other dogs and people he doesn’t know, but we’re fine with that. Once he knows you, you’re a friend for life and he will fetch, wrestle, and turn himself inside out play fighting with you over a toy. Afterwards, he’s happy to play on his own with his stuffies, chewies or paper bags! He just loves anything made of paper.

Odin also definitely has the toller smarts. He’s already learned several commands and constantly surprises us with his intelligence. I love how he sits and stares you in the eyes as if he’s trying to understand every word you say. I don’t think it will be long before he pretty much does 😊

We are so happy to have Odin in our lives. He is the best company ever!

Catching up with Aspen’s Favourite Lakes, 4 months old.

- Hattrick’s Fourth at Lake Geneva -

Brandy (Geneva) joining the Power family has been a source of joy to all of us - we have never seen our two legged children as frequently as we have since we have a new four legged child! Brandy came to my 60th birthday party and was not intimidated at all by all of the people present. She loves to go in the car and has been to Home Depot several times. The staff even know her name 😀. She is also very popular in our gated community and loves attention from our neighbors.

Brandy slept straight through the night from the very first night. We all need that 6-7 hours of sleep because when she is awake during the day she is all go. She has a bright, inquisitive nature and is constantly exploring. From the very time she had a ball in the back yard she would bound after it and then bring it back. She also loves her squeaky duck.
Brandy has completed one set of puppy classes and enjoyed the company of all the puppies in the class. She is excellent with the basic puppy commands and is learning more every day. She loves to walk and gets very excited when her leash comes out. Now that she is fully vaccinated we can take her on some trails. Once she has walked for about 10 minutes she hops right into her puppy stroller and enjoys continuing on for a longer walk.
Brandy has had her first camping trip and enjoyed constantly being outside with her family and meeting new furry friends. She even splashed a few times in the Vedder river.
We appreciate how well socialized Brandy was when she joined our household and that she is such a confident and happy puppy. Our vet told us she was a “perfect puppy” and we couldn’t agree more! Vince and I love our newest family member.

What a fabulous weekend we had last week at the Pacific Kennel Club show. Cypress was back in the ring after a year and a half off and took best of opposite & select. Whereas as this was Mabel’s first show and you would never question that it was! She went in and strut her stuff, even when we she went in with a new handler. We think Mabel and Miss A had quite the friendship started. Can’t wait to get back in the ring in September!

Catching up with Aspen’s Favourite Lakes, 4 months old!

- Hattrick’s Flight to Phantom Lake -

Tavish (Phantom) has been a wee bundle of joy since we brought him home. He settled into his new home pretty quickly, and has been growing in confidence ever since. He is turning into a very social pup, and likes to say hi to all the neighbours and is starting to enjoy playing with other dogs too. Tavish is embracing the North Vancouver lifestyle and starting to go on little hikes and trail walks. We think this is now his favourite thing to do. One thing he is not a big fan of is swimming, but he like to play along the edge of the water and making big splashes. He is a clever cookie picking up any training really quickly (so long as we have good treats!), and he enjoyed going to all his puppy classes and learning all his skills (he is very much a teachers pet)! We are so happy to have him, and can't wait for all the new adventures we will have in the future.

Catching up with Aspen’s Favourite Lakes, 4 months old!

- Hattrick’s I Don’t Want Nunavut -

We did end up just calling Mal as Nugget. She didn’t take long to get comfortable around the condo. She’s extremely smart!

Nugget picked up many tricks, she loves her treats and fruits we treat here from time to time. We try to teach her not to bark at other dogs and it’s been doing well. She is not the instigator 😂

She settles well in the crate, we found that she settles best every time the crate is covered. She won’t go in there to just nap, she prefers the freedom 😆Nugget doesn’t chew on anything but her own bully stick, she often finds her spot on the couch to rest or stays around us if we are around living room area. When’s she’s done with us she roams off into the bathroom where it’s dark and naps. Nugget doesn’t love being combed and bathed but she will tolerate it.

She is growing so fast , we wish should could stay the size right now with her super soft puppy fur!

- Hattrick’s The Falls at Rolley Lake -

Rolley has fit in to his new home very well. He loves to explore the garden, and “help” relocate some plants. Rolley loves his walks at the d***s, especially when he gets to sit and watch the flocks of birds take flight! We love watching when he gets the zoomies, it often includes a splash in the pool or a four-footed pounce on the sprinkler! Rolley is growing like a w**d and is totally adorable aside from those needle teeth! He loves his pool, and it’s even better when we can dig after a dip. Rolley has filled our hearts and home.

Miss Mabel has been coming for visits as she gets ready to make her conformation debut in a few short weeks. Not the perfect stack, hard to do when you’ve got jello legs! 😝 She’s got such a fun personality we can’t wait to see her strut her stuff in the ring!
