Happy #internationalwomensday to all the ladies out there! We have an incredibly team of ladies who are supportive, strong and passionate! So lucky to have everyone by our side!
It was an honour to have our very own @k9suria and @k9_mike share some information and insight at the 2022 CPCA spring seminar.
It’s humbling watching these two work, and it’s a pleasure to have them as a major part of the Grassroots K9 team.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks again to the CPCA and the entire team at

Here is a raw uncut clip from a board and train lesson here with Goose. We set up a situation so we would be walking through a park and another dog appeared.
You can notice an immediate change of behaviour when she sees the dog… but who can tell us what we do next to help Goose?

Here’s Luna fresh off of teething( kind of). She’s lost all of her teeth, however her canines aren’t fully in yet! You can notice when she bites and I try to set the grip it slips a bit, and she will counter back into a full grip but she can’t hold it very well. We still love to see this as it shows us how much she WANTS it.
We also decided to see how she would do when introduced to an auditory stimulus while in drive and on the bite. So we slowly introduced the rock jug to her. Not to mention all the noise from a huge concrete truck not too far away.
She definitely did not care about it at all. The more we tried the less she cared, so we increased the pressure after each time she overcame it.
Promising young female so far!
Onto the next new thing for her!
TRAINING MULTIPLE DOGS AT ONCE
Here’s just a little look at what kind of training we do when we work with multiple dogs at once. Obviously having an extra set of hands is extremely helpful!
We make sure there is lots of praise and let’s, treats and love BUT ALSO lots of structure! EVERY SINGLE ONE of the dogs in this video was given a job to do, and was held accountable for it!
Those jobs include:
The mark
Recall
Sits
Downs
Loose leash walking
And making sure they don’t react!!!
So the next time you’re training your dogs at home ask yourself, am I doing a 50/50? Or is there too much of one side??
Have a look at board and train Moose’s lesson!
Today we introduced Moose to the ecollar! This will tie into his training a lot in the home especially in order to keep his Mark command.
The mark will help give both Moose and Storm a place to go when highly stimulated in the house, or when all the dogs are out with each other. This will help them feel more safe and comfortable around one another.
Moose has a super low working level of 3! One of the lowest I’ve seen! And he responds so well to it. He is super smart on caught on very quickly to us sending him to the mark!
Good boy Moose!
Cheers to the women that refused to be anything else than who THEY want to be.
The ones that didn’t let society place them in a pretty little box but instead made their own.
The ones who only got louder when told to be quiet.
The ones who stood when told to sit down.
The ones who told people to watch when others said they can’t.

FADING A LURE
Have you been wondering how get your dog to the next step? How to go from constantly leaning over and physically putting your dog into a down to just simply telling them to down?!
Well this video has all the information you need!
First let’s start with why fading a lure is important. However the lure is presented is how a behaviour is created. So a lure is how the dog associates a behaviour. You point down I go down. You point up I sit. So on and so forth.
It is important that we remember to fade this lure because if we don’t, our dogs will rely on this cue without actually knowing the command we want them to.
This is done through successive approximation. As we gradually take away the amount of help from ourselves(body language, visual cues etc) our dogs will struggle to remember what it is we are trying to get them to do because they naturally learn the best from body language. So this is where successive approximation comes into play.
Rather than wait for Ares to hold his down for a long period of time like we know he can with the lure, First we can reward for attempts or “half downs” then we simply just ask him to get into the designated position and release IMMEDIATELY.
Slowly and slowly our hand lure starts to diminish and...
POOF Ares knows what “down” means. 😁
