Tips for new owners
4 things that if you don’t own, buy them!
Lemon juice squirted down the throat if your dog is struggling to breath breaks up phlegm (wasp sting in the mouth for example)
Lucellin spray for cuts and open wounds etc
Hibiscrub diluted ratio is 10 parts water 1 part hibiscrub. can be used for cleaning wounds, itchy feet and cleaning wrinkles.
Piriton it’s the season for stings/bites/hives so always have it handy.
Bites and stings•Bee and wasp stings can cause pain and in rare cases an anaphylactic reaction where the dog may stop breathing and require CPR•Stings near the mouth and airway tend to be more seriousas they can cause swelling making it difficult for the dog to breath.
This is of particular concern for brachycephalic dogs who have a flatter face and SOME may have much narrower airways. These dogs need closely monitoring often by your vet, you can do the following to help your dog who has been stung by a 🐝 bee Remove bee stings with a credit card, avoid tweezers as squeezing the stinger can release more venom and cause increased pain
Apply bicarbonate of soda paste to bee stings as they are acidic so this can neutralise them leading to less pain. Mix some bicarbonate of soda with water to make your thick paste
You can do the following to help your dog who has been stung by a wasp•Wasp stings are alkaline applying vinegar can help with the pain
An icepack wrapped in a towel can help with the pain for both bee and wasp stings
Ask your vet about applying some arnica cream or using arnica pills to help with the inflammation and discomfort.
My last comment is regarding over heating, following the sadness I watched on here earlier.
Know what to do in an emergency, it could save your dogs life.
Wet towels, stand the dog in water, their feet/pads is where they can cool, no ice! Just normal water. An ice cube inserted into the a**s or under the tail can cool quickly in life or death situations.
ring the vets ASAP, not many dogs make it back after a heat stroke collapse, so it’s down to us to do the best for our dogs in the first place.
Don’t walk flat faced breeds in the heat, it’s just not worth it ☹️ anything over 18/19 degrees…
No dog has died from not going out on his/her daily walk.
