🌸 Thank you to all the protea enthusiasts who joined us for our open farm day last Saturday. It was a joy to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Visitors explored our fields and left with unique protea varieties not found in local nurseries. The support we receive from our local community warms our hearts and makes this endeavor possible. This project was personal. ⬇️ A fellow flower farmer reached out to me to design a wall for the bronchiectasis educational center at the American Thoracic Society 2024 Conference in San Diego. I was thrilled to be a part of this because I am a bronchiectasis patient! I’ve been living with this progressive lung disease since 2016. Bronchiectasis is a permanent dilation or damage of the airways making it difficult to clear mucus and can easily become infected. In order to stay healthy, I have to take a lot of precautions to ensure my lungs stay as healthy as possible. Ironically, I work in dirt and water daily, the 2 elements that can cause me the most problems. So if you see me in a mask, that’s why. 😷 Making people smile, with the flowers I grow, fulfills my heart and supports our family.
