Our patient is a 1.5yr old female-spayed HuskyX who sustained a traumatic injury to her right pelvic limb prior to adoption by owners. Radiographs showed femoral bowing valgus distally as well as a proximal tibial varus with bowing of the tibia medially in the distal segment. At the time of the patients examination a grade 3 out of 4 medial patellar luxation was palpated.

A CT Scan was performed to assist with pre-surgical planning and to evaluate the need for a corrective osteotomy. Based on the CT Scan a routine patellar luxation correction was indicated.

An arthrotomy was performed showing evidence of loss of the femoralcondylar ridge. A Semi-Cylindrical Recession Trochlearplasty (SCRT) recession was performed in order to deepen the patellar femoral groove. The cartilage was replaced at a good depth with good seating noted to fit the patella. A medial tibial tuberosity was then performed as well as a medial fascial release and a lateral fascial imbrication.

Our patient is a 5 year old male neutered RottieX. He is a very active dog who had been showing signs of discomfort and trouble running around at home. On exam he had discomfort on ROM of his left pelvic limb and there was muscle loss noted unilaterally. No other orthopaedic or neurologic abnormalities were noted on his exam.

We performed a cement-less Total Hip Replacement this week using BioMedtrix Lateral Bolt System and this patient was up and weight bearing within a few hours of surgery.

Our patient is a 1yr old male Hound X with a radial ulnar fracture of the right thoracic limb. We reduced the ulnar fracture and placed and IM pin and then used ostilok plate and screw system were used to stabilize the radius. Radiographs taken intra-op show good reduction of the fracture site.

8-weeks post-op our patient was doing very well clinically and the radiographs showed excellent callus formation.

Our patient is a 9 year old female spayed Border Collie X who had been displaying lameness on her left pelvic limb for the past few weeks. She had tibial thrust and cranial drawer as well as a mild medial buttress and joint effusion consistent with a cranial cruciate ligament tear. The patient showed no other orthopaedic or neurological deficits on examination.

I start all of my CCL repairs with a minimally invasive arthroscopy to evaluate the meniscus before moving onto their stabilizing procedure. This patients meniscus was intact. I performed a Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) using a BioMedtrix 3.5mm short plate.

Our patient is a 7.5yr old, male neutered, Golden Retriever mix who has severe bilateral hip dysplasia that left him barely able to walk or play. We performed the first of his staged Total Hip Replacements back in March of 2022 and he has healed and recovered exceptionally well from the first procedure. Yesterday, he was in for his second Total Hip Replacement using Biomedtrix non-cemented lateral bolt implants. I really enjoy using the lateral bolt system as it provides peace of mind by helping prevent femoral stem subsidence, especially in patients that are very active post operatively.

Our patient is a 15kg, 5yr old, female spayed Sheltie who presented for an orthopaedic exam back in 2021 with a chronic lateral carpal collateral ligament tear. She showed a varus deviation at the carpal joint on the left thoracic limb and was painful at the stance and walk phase.

At that time I discussed conservative management with PRP injections, rehabilitation and external coaptation, as well as the option of pan carpal arthrodesis. The owners opted for conservative management and the patient was responding quite well for several months showing less discomfort and more use of the limb.

The patient unfortunately re-injured the limb a few months ago and became more clinical showing increased torsion and varus deviation. A pan carpal arthrodesis was recommended as an option to provide long term, pain free function of the limb. As of our 4-week post-op recheck the patient is using the leg more and more each day and is expected to make an excellent recovery.

Our patient yesterday was a 3.5yr old male neutered Central Asian Shepherd. This gentle giant weighed in at 222lbs and required a TPLO surgery to address a cranial cruciate tear on his right pelvic limb. Working on a limb this large is not something we do everyday and not something that fits standard sized hardware. The patient showed evidence of a meniscal tear which was managed via arthroscopy. Due to the size of this limb I then used a 3.5mm Broad Biomedtrix Plate as well as an LCDCP T-Plate to provide extra stabilization to the osteotomy. I expect this patient to have an excellent recovery with some rest and rehab provided by his owner who is an RVT!

Our patient is a 4.5year old male neutered DSH with bilateral Grade 3 Medial Patellar Luxation. He has recovered very well from his initial procedure on his right pelvic limb that was performed in April. Earlier this week he was in for a staged procedure on the left pelvic limb, where I performed a trochleoplasty and tibial tuberosity transposition to correct his luxation.

I've recently been using the Semi-Cylindrical Recession Trochleoplasty (SCRT) system from New Generation Devices and have found it's providing excellent anatomical reconstruction that more closely follows the contours of the patella compared to a traditional block resection.

Our patient is an 8 month old, male, Bernerdoodle who presented with a history of left forelimb lameness with minimal response to NSAID's and conservative treatment. The patient was painful on flexion & extension of the left shoulder. Elbow and carpus palpated within normal limits.

Radiograph of the left thoracic limb showed a large contour defect and radiolucency at the caudal humeral head, with surrounding subchondral bone sclerosis. A large osteochondrosis (OCD) lesion was suspected.

Following arthroscopy, the patient received an interarticular Platelet Rich Plasma injection followed by Shockwave therapy. There is a good prognosis expected for this patient who walked out of the clinic already weight bearing on the affected limb.

Hey Facebook world, thought I would take a moment and introduce myself!

Over the past 20+ years in Veterinary Medicine I have worked to streamline my skills and competency towards a focus in orthopedic surgery. During this time, I've completed surgical training at Ohio State University and have considerable expertise in the areas of joint reconstruction, cruciate ligament injury treatment utilizing TPLO and TTA procedures, as well as orthopedic trauma management. I have also gained extensive knowledge in non-cemented total hip replacement surgery, with over 15 years of experience and training in the BioMedtrix total hip replacement system.

I have a special interest in the surgical management of congenital deformities and complex fractures. Whenever possible, I opt for minimally invasive techniques and approaches to manage fractures. My current areas of research and study include regenerative medicine, as well as preoperative surgical planning utilizing CT Scans and 3D modelling. I also conduct research for manufacturers as well as product testing for bone plating systems and other minimally invasive orthopedic applications.

I have been a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal surgery since 2016. I have spoke at many continuing education events, and act as a course instructor for orthopedic surgical techniques. I sit on the editorial board and am a reviewer for Veterinary Practice News Canada, and am also a part of the ANZCVS membership committee, and a member of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. I am very proud to be associated with a network of veterinarians and rescue group volunteers who are dedicated to helping people and their pets.

When I'm not in the surgery suite I enjoy spending my time doing Motocross and mountain bike riding and also enjoy ski racing and competitive tennis!
