The importance of calcium for shrimp and especially snails is a well-known fact. Therefore, today we will talk about calcium blocks required for shrimp and snail . It is commonly understood that they require calcium in unusual and higher quantities during certain stages of their life.
The reason is that one of the main components of the shrimp shell is calcium . In snails, it is even more crucial, about 95-98% of snails shellโs dry weight is calcium.
We know , shrimp and snails depend on calcium.
Actually, calcium is so vital for them that, according to different studies, they can sense calcium concentration within their aquariums and prefer to live in a high-calcium environment.
Shrimp have external skeletons - exoskeletonโs that limit the amount of their growth. The only way for them to grow is to molt. The process of shedding their old shell is called molting (similar to that of a snake)
They require a lot of minerals to reconstruct exoskeletons. Therefore, our job is to provide all the necessary minerals for them to make and reinforce their shells which calcium plays an important role.
