Did you know that approximately 30% of Dalmatians are deaf in at least one ear? It is estimated that 22% of Dalmatians are deaf in one ear, while 8% area deaf in both ears.

It is believed that breeding dogs with the Dalmatian's type of spotted coat can lead to a lack of mature melanocytes in the inner ear, leading to difficulty hearing.

Are you ready for a canine anatomy lesson? Unlike humans who only have two eyelids, dogs have a third eyelid known as the nictitating membrane in each eye. This membrane helps to remove dust and other irritants from your pup's eyes. You might catch a peep of this membrane when your pup's eyes flutter during sleep, or if your dog wakes suddenly, as the membrane is closed while your dog sleeps.

Another fun fact? Cats also have this membrane. It is thought that humans once had a third eyelid, but as we evolved we no longer needed this membrane. The membrane instead became the little pink flesh bump in the corner of each eye, which is thought to be a remnant of the third eyelid.

Dogs' tail wags have multiple meanings, including happiness, anxiety, curiosity, aggression, & excitement. As you can see, the meanings of tail wagging can vary widely, making it important to learn your dog's unique cues and behaviors.

Fast wagging tails often indicate excitement, while a slow, tentative wag might indicate uncertainty or nervousness in new situations, such as meeting new people or animals.
