Whisker Rescue 100% Volunteer run! Dedicated to rescuing cats, Community Spay/Neuter Programs and spreading kindness We sincerely thank those who give so generously!

Whisker Rescue is a nonprofit charitable organization that is run by a small group of dedicated cat loving volunteers! We strive to provide purrmanent and loving homes to cats and kittens that are homeless, abandoned and otherwise in need. Our love knows no age limit, our rescue will take in cats of every age, from newborns to seniors. We are proud to be one of the only local rescue groups to offe

r community support through our subsidized programs, such as our Senior for Senior, CALICO (Caring About Low Income Cat Owners) Subsidized Spay and Neuter Program and our Roundup TNR Subsidized Spay/Neuter program! We hope to be part of the solution to end the stray cat overpopulation crisis! Our society is 100% funded by public donations and dedicated volunteer fundraising. We can offer tax deductible receipts for donations $20 and up! Although we do not have a public building, we are grateful for our loving foster families who open their hearts and homes to cats in need! Our privately owned Sanctuary houses over 100 cats, including our Purrmanent residents, Seniors, or those with special needs. Here we care for those with health conditions such as diabetes or kidney failure as well as kitties that are paraplegic or have other mobility issues. It is a hospice to our cats with terminal illness and a safe place for our feral cats or kitties with behaviour issues that may make them un-adoptable. Our volunteers consider this to be a labour of love and they work hard giving their time to all the cats in our care! Thank you to Royal Canin for making us one of your shelter partners! Here are some of the items we need that help us provide loving care to our kitties:
-Bleach
-Paper Towel
-Liquid laundry detergent
-Liquid Dish Soap
-Pine litter bedding
-Scoopable litter (unscented please)
-Clay litter (non clumping)
-Friskies canned cat food (any flavours)
-Temptation treats
-Royal Canin dry food such as Fibre, -Development, Adult, Senior or Calm diet (any brand of dry is greatly appreciated-our kitties also love Iams, Whiskas, etc)
-Cat trees- new or gently used
-Toys-new or gently used
-Pre/probiotic powder (such as PVD Forti flora or any brand- sold at most vet clinics and pet supply stores)
-Colloidal Silver or Ionic Silver (sold at most pet supply stores or health food stores)
-Oil of Organo (sold at most grocery or health food stores- we put a few drops in steaming water to help our upper respiratory cases)

We have a bottle drive all year long and gratefully accept donated cans and bottles! Any of these items can be dropped off at the Deer Park Pet Hospital (420 Allan Street, Red Deer) :)

It’s Wings Wednesday! We welcome a new Guardian Angel sponsor to the Whisker family! We THANK Geeta J. for tucking our special needs kitty named Tater Tot under her wings! 😇🙏 This sweet Manx girl came to us as a tiny kitten with neurological issues, she walks with a bit of a wobble and has developed a cute bunny hop instead of running! She must wear a diaper due to urinary and bowel incontinence. She is sassy and smart and has stolen our hearts! We couldn’t do this work without Angels like Geeta who donate $25 monthly towards Purrmanent Residents like Tater! We are so grateful! This is a public service announcement. Please be aware that it is getting cold everywhere and that cold makes especially cats get into warm engines. Even when the car is turned off that is a very warm spot for them to be. As an example we have a car that we do not use and we are extremely aware that some of the feral cats get into that car when it gets cold. I never turned it on without checking. You also need to check for kittens because they have no idea what's going on even when the car turns on. So please be careful be safe and always be cautious. Our furry little friends deserve our best intentions always.
With the cold weather coming this weekend we wanted to repost this as it is still very important. We will post another funny post later. Have a happy Saturday morning

Our AGM year end numbers are in and we are SO PROUD to announce that we have been able to help spay and neuter 495 cats through our Rural Roundup Program at a cost of over $58,000 to our rescue! We created this program to help farm and acreage owners who have feral cats or who have cats that appear on their property. This program helps stop unwanted litters, helps save many lives and promotes kindness to the cats that need help! Because we are 100% Volunteer run and have no paid staff, your donation dollars go back into these important community programs! Every dollar counts and we are so grateful to you all (and so are the many farm and acreage owners who find themselves overwhelmed, through no fault of their own!) Donations are always gratefully accepted and we promise to continue helping with these life-saving surgeries for as long as we possibly are able!💕♥️

Milly found her Happily Ever After! 🏰💫This sweetheart was one of the many we took in from the Mustang acres area this past summer! She was living at our sanctuary for the past few months due to battling some gastrointestinal issues, but she is now on her way to living her best life! Finnegan was found as a tiny boy in a dairy barn, dragging his hind legs behind him 😿 He was brought to our rescue where he has grown big and strong but he has never regained the use of his legs and he is incontinent. Nothing slows this sweetheart down, and every Christmas he gets a special treat of cream which he asks for, sitting right in front of the fridge! Meet Jewell! This little sweetheart is currently in our loving foster home! She has a bit of a wobble when she walks and is commonly referred to as a “bobble head kitty”. She has been in foster care since she was only a few days old, along with her mama and siblings. We THANK Andrea (part of our Whisker Dream Team) for nursing them through their health issues for many months! This little one developed something called cerebella hypoplasia which causes her imbalance but it has only made her even more charming! She is seven months old, has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed and is ready for her next adventure with her new family!
