V-Day is my Dog Walking Anniversary Date. Today marks 7 years & I will give you 7 things I’ve learned along the way:

💘1. It’s not all doggy kisses & a walk in the park: although those are the perks- most of the nitty gritty is having discipline in yourself FIRST ☝️ & setting down boundaries + structure w/ your pets(s) 2nd (& sticking to it 😉)

💘2. If you don’t like people. This job is not for you. I’ve seen so many people say they got into this profession because they don’t “like people” & are shocked when this job revolves around working with AND educating people ALL the time.

💘3. Don’t compare. Even when I first started dog walking 7 years ago I had previously worked with dozens of dogs at a Doggy Daycare. I was very qualified but I know that’s not the same story for others. Be open minded. Stay curious. Shadow people who’s values match yours and that show their results. Have a positive attitude about being a student for life in this profession 🤓 the learning never stops! I’m still learning new things every day & I’m grateful for this platform that connects me other trainers & professionals that I look up to!

💘4. Advocate for your pets: if I’ve had the honor of working with you and your pets- you know very well I treat them as if they were my own. With that said, I did not understand the problem with on leash greetings + dog parks & unstructured settings when I first stated working. It’s something I wish I had know earlier & had I said “no” + advocated for the pets It would of made my walks a lot calmer & less hectic ESP during pack walks!
When you know better you DO better 💪

💘5. Consistency gets results: we all have our off days. I get it but the pets I work with always strive to please me & their owners. They put in the work & the least we can do is become the educated leaders they need to thrive. I always tell my clients it’s best to “end on a good note” rather then not doing something wholeheartedly. They know when you’re BS 😅 so might as well stay consistent or ask for professional help when you need extra guidance!

GCP does not use DP’s. We DO use them for training- behind the fence where you’re safe from fights/disease.

FAQ: what if my dog is stellar @ the DP, polite in social settings/ non aggressive?

Although, it is the clients personal decision, it is our job to warn/inform them that GCP does not use them based on our own experience & knowledge.

1.DP’s are very unstructured w/ loose packs of dogs. 2.There is no established hierarchy. 3.The dogs are usually very unfamiliar w/ one another since most of the time they’ve just met.

Each & every dog has very different play styles- so finding a match in behavior is almost impossible @ the DP. All it takes is for 1 dog that’s not the right fit for your dog to cause a problem.

I’ve seen things go south very quickly at DP’s
& unfortunately, a lot of owners do NOT know how to handle a dog fight when they arise.

When you have a pack of loose dogs- one fight can turn into a full out brawl between ALL of the dogs… having been in the situation, personally(both in DP’s & Dog Daycare)- it’s not something you want to be involved in. You can get hurt & your dog can too.

5+ yrs ago today- Dog Handling @ a Dog Daycare.
I’d like to mention 5 things you SHOULD give up where ever you are in your training journey:
1.UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS- even trainers like myself struggle w/ this, so take it from me… go easy on yourself.
2.PAST MISTAKES- we all make mistakes & dogs are no different. Today is a new day so focus on that.
3.FEAR OF BEING JUDGED- how someone else feels about you or your dog says nothing about who are. Don’t give them that power.
4.COMPARING YOUR DOG TO ANOTHER- instead remind yourself the goal is progress not perfection.
5.WANTING YOUR DOG TO LOVE ALL DOGS- just because your dog is picky about his mates does not make him/her a bad dog & it sure as heck does not make you a bad owner!

Those are my nuggets of wisdom. Hope you all have a GREAT day!

Welcome Sukhi & Tosca to the GCP team!🐾💕
+ another FAQ✨

What type of training/ services do you offer?

GCP primarily offer in-home rehabilitation & training sessions which occurs in your home environment.

We pair training w/ other services like daily walking services (either private or group) & also provide pet sitting in the clients home while owners are away.

We apply different tools to different dogs. We try different styles until we find out the one that works best for owner & client. We do not use a one size fits all approach. Only techniques we choose to apply or not. The rest of the work goes on educating owners to feel empowered in bridging any gaps they may have in their relationship w/ their dog.

Basically whatever works for the dog & the client! Every tool has a place. In my kit I have long lines, short leads, slip leads, haltis, gentle leader, prongs. Variety is the spice of life 🌶

Day 5 Theme: Top 5 tips for the struggling owner ♥️
1. Control your space by giving your dog jobs to do: don’t let your dog follow you everywhere, teach your dog to rest in “place” for increasing time, use crate even while you are home & implement long down-stays w/ crate open
2. Control yourself to lower excitement levels & create calmness: no high-pitch talking/excited questions, leave the house w/zero fuss + come home w/ zero fuss(only pet a dog who’s completely CALM & relaxed)you get what you pet, strictly limit attention/ affection to reduce stress & anxiety (these are powerful rewards to be used MEANINGFULLY)
3. Structured exercise- this means formal walkies on leash w/ rules, rather than off leash free-for-all runs. The goal is to engage both body & the mind to release pent up energy rather than creating a marathon athlete w/ more over-excited energy. This looks like structured walkies (at a heel on a loose leash, w/ an auto-sit when you stop)
Or treadmill exercise up to an hour per day ( w/ constant supervision only)
4. Correct anxious behavior to help your dog calm down. Teach your dog that *calm*is expected & behaving anxiously(barking, whining) isn’t allowed. Being firm & consistent will result in needing fewer corrections & you can focus more in rewarding your dog when it’s doing the behaviors you DO want.
5. Consistent rules & leadership make your dog feel safe. This looks like making few rules as possible & ensure they are nonnegotiable, demonstrate calmness/ patience(you are your dog’s role model) think of dogs as our mirror like Cesar always says! & last but not least- integrate dog training into your everyday routine as a normal part of life. Think of it as a lifestyle. Make it fun so when you experience reactions you can simply end on a good note & pick up where you left off next time.

Remember- your dog isn’t giving you a hard time, he/ she is HAVING a hard time. Save this post & come back to it whenever you need to! 🐾💕

This is my entry for day 4 of the 12 day creative content challenge.

The topic is vulnerability.

As I am struggling to put into words what my mind & heart has yet to fully comprehend. I even skipped out on posting this yesterday because being vulnerable is not easy for me. Also posting would make what happened yesterday real. As some of you may know GCP turned 1 yesterday & if you told me last year that I would take a big leap & bet on myself to launch my small business I probably wouldn’t of believed you. Mostly because of fear & doubt that I would cling to in order to stay “safe” & in my comfort zone. (Still struggle w/ this to this day😅)But what I learned from taking that leap last year was that the best things in life are on the other side of fear. I’m proud of that choice I made because I wouldn’t of met all the wonderful people reading this right now who inspire & support me every day.

One of the people who has been my main supporter is my best friend of 10+ years, Kian Canda. Or Ian as his mom, Flora would say. Many of you have had the pleasure of seeing us being a power duo at work. Kian is truly the best partner I could have ever decided to take this leap w/ in launching GCP. He is not only my partner in this small business but my hype man who believed in me before I did. Who saw in me potential when I was my own worst enemy. GCP’s success is thanks to the wonderful soul, Kian. From helping me w/ brainstorming how to launch GCP, to driving us to GCP’s meet & greets, to always being up for a last minute walk/ pet sit I throw on his schedule. Those who have worked w/ Kian know he the sweetest soul & the pets love him very much. GCP is great because of the man behind the scene, Kian.

It is why it saddens me so much to share w/ you all that Kian’s mother passed away yesterday morning after a long & hard battle w/ cancer. Flora was always so supportive of Kian working w/ pets. To say she was proud of Kian is an understatement. As a parent All she cared about is that kian & his sister were happy & believed in themselves always. Meeting her you could instantly see where Kian’s love & light comes from.

Flora will always be remembered for radiating love & exuding confidence even when she wasn’t feeling her best. As we are grieving & coping the best way we can. I want to thank clients who we cancelled on yesterday & the ones who will not see Kian until he is ready to return. All I ask is we all keep Kian & his beautiful family in our prayers during this rough time.

This entry isn’t dog related but it’s life related & I want to dedicate it to Flora. I want to thank her for gifting me my best friend I get to grow & love in the life. You are soaring high & riding the wings of love now: Until we meet again 🌻 ♥️

Content Challenge✨I’m 2 days late so let’s jump right in!
Day 1- Post photo of your self w/ a story of how you got into working w/ dogs.
Day 2- FAQ.
Day 3-Empathy.

Day 1: Growing up I found myself easily being able to communicate w/ dogs + other animals. I didn’t think I could make a career out of it until I worked at a Doggy Daycare for a few years while attending college to become a teacher. I was pretty much thrown into it w/ no experience but it felt so natural working w/ dozens of dogs of different breeds & needs. I would say that’s the place where my passion for dogs & wanting to help as many as I possibly can really began. I instantly fell in love w/ being a Dog Handler & understood the meaning “Doing what you love is freedom. Loving what you do is happiness.” Once I graduated, I was teaching for a short period of time before finding myself missing working w/ dogs & their owners. I made the decision to leave the teaching world & got hired as a Professional Dog Walker. Working outdoors everyday I learned more about the different training methods. I saw results by applying different training methods I’d picked up over the years to the dog that was in front of me instead of a one size fits all approach. I used different training methods to my advantage for best results. I finally felt as if all was right in the world, but then the pandemic happened… After several years of helping many owners & working w/ thousands of dogs + being known as the neighborhood’s “dog whisperer”. I found myself unemployed when the company I worked for shut down. That is when I launched GCP. I could not have done it w/out the encouraging feedback of clients over the years telling me I helped strengthen their relationship w/ their pets by educating them on training & how to raise their dog the balanced way. They are the reason why I felt supported & inspired to finally take the big leap to go out on my own. Although I may be new to being my own boss & running a small business- my goal when I first started has not changed. GCP thrives because of the deep understanding of dogs, genuine PASSION, & desire to give every dog owner we meet the tools to help dogs 🙏

Day 2: I get this question often & the reoccurring correlation I see between owner & their pet is there’s little to no structure or boundaries in the home. Most likely you also repeat commands & don’t follow through w/ every command you ask of your dog. This leads to your dog having to do the decision making on his/her own. To relieve them of this, I love blowing clients minds by giving them easy tools to apply in the home so they can achieve the results they seek outside. It all begins in the home! Working on getting focus from your dog is a great start. Dogs will always seek leadership & it should come from you- not vice versa! Think of dog training like a muscle, use it or lose it. 🧠 💪

Day 3: Dog training is ruff, but rewarding! Your dog is simply having a hard time not voluntarily trying to give you a hard time. At the end of every week I enjoy checking in with clients to see how they are doing on their training journey w/ their pet(s). I remind them often that the key is progression not perfection. There is no quick fix to dog training- anyone guaranteeing you one… you might want to run the other way. Training is a lifestyle(like healing!) & the journey will not always be linear. When you don’t get the result you want, allow yourself to show yourself grace & keep in mind: it was a moment not a set back. 🐾💕
