"We adopted Skađi when she was around 3 months old from a rescue group. As she grew taller, Skađi learned that she could “counter surf” for snacks in the kitchen; she also got in the bad habit of jumping up on guests; and she was wild with puppy energy in general. We knew that we needed professional help to give our puppy the necessary rules and boundaries to live by in order to be a good canine citizen; but because of our young children and the pandemic, we did not feel comfortable going to a group training environment.

As the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon gains in popularity, it’s important to keep in mind a few things before considering this breed!

The Griff is an old breed, dating all the way back to the 1800’s when the original breeder, Korthals, wanted to create a dry land and water retriever with the rugged low shedding coat. Korthals used Setters, Retrievers and Pointers to develop the Griffs we know today, with the breed standard hardly changing since it’s development.

They are known for being even tempered and very people oriented. Although they are a great working dog, they are very trainable with a high degree of cooperation and do well in an active family setting, given the proper amount of physical and mental stimulation.
