🎁 Thinking about adding a puppy to your family this holiday season? Before you take the leap, here are some important things to keep in mind:

🐶 Puppies aren’t presents — they’re commitments. A puppy should never be a surprise gift. Make sure the person receiving the puppy is fully prepared for the lifelong responsibility that comes with raising a dog.

🌟 Ethical breeding matters. If the recipient is ready, choosing a reputable breeder is crucial. Quality programs prioritize health, temperament, and responsible practices—not fast sales. This often means puppies aren’t instantly available.
Be prepared to join a waitlist and welcome your new family member after Christmas, and know that this is actually a good sign.

🔍 Know the difference between responsible and risky. Red flags include:
• Only advertising color, size, or rarity
• No mention of health or temperament
• Always having puppies “ready now”
• Continuing to breed while current puppies still need homes

These are common traits of puppy mills, even when they’re disguised as home breeders.

💛 What responsible breeders provide:
• A clear health guarantee
• A copy of the puppy’s vet exam
• Transparency about parents and temperament
• Willingness to answer questions
• A FaceTime call before any funds are exchanged

🛑 Protect yourself from scams.
If a breeder refuses live video, rushes you, or pressures you to send money quickly, walk away.

THIS!! Give this a read if you are considering between an AKK and a pomsky 📣

Update: Guys I am not going to take hate on either side. This is an educational post taken points from both breed standards. There is nothing wrong with comparing and contrasting. If you're going to be mean to either side I will block you. Differing opinions are absolutely welcome but kindness is also required. As stated in this post both are a good option for the individual wanting those traits. AKK breeders and Pomsky breeders have come together in a general agreement on both sides. Pros and Cons have been added. Again, I will not tolerate hate towards either. Be kind.

The Pomsky vs. The Alaskan Klee Kai
One of the most common arguments between those wanting a miniature husky:
“Should I get a Pomsky or an Alaskan Klee Kai?”

Here are three clear facts that compare the AKK vs. the Pomsky:
---
1. Breed Origins

Alaskan Klee Kai (AKK)
They were created in the 1970s using Alaskan Husky, Siberian Husky, American Eskimo Dog, and Schipperke.

Pomsky
Also known as the Arctic Spitz, Pomskies come from Siberian Husky, Pomeranian, and occasionally American Eskimo Dog lines.
To move toward AKC recognition, a breed must have three or more foundation breeds—something the APKC has already approved for the Pomsky. This breed was created in 2011.
They are currently accepted into the ARBA.
---

2. Breed Recognition

AKK
Despite common belief, the AKK is not yet fully classed into an AKC Category.
The AKC is considered the gold standard of purebred registries, but the AKK is in the Miscellaneous Category which is the next step toward recognition. Full AKC status can take decades and requires generations of documented pedigrees. They are however very close! 🤩 They are currently UKC though! Once registered they will be into the non-sporting group!

Pomsky
Pomskies have been around for just over a decade. Breeders within the APKC are actively working to track pedigrees, develop consistency, and establish a healthy breed standard—following the same steps the AKK community took. It is also a requirement that ALL breeding dogs are Embark tested - many purebred breeders do not even do this - they only test for 4-5 conditions vs the full 200+ that Pomsky breeders do.
The difference here? The AKK has had a 50-year head start.
---

3. Temperament

AKK
The biggest drawback for many families is the AKK temperament. While beautiful, the sometimes breed:

✅️ May be reserved or aloof
✅️ Can be standoffish with unfamiliar people
✅️ Can have a strong prey drive
✅️ Some are more vocal

However they are also....
✅️ Loyal
✅️ Playful
✅️ Good with other dogs
✅️ More consistent on sizing, coat & eye color.

Pomsky

More often than not Pomskies tend to be the complete opposite in temperament:
✅️Friendly, outgoing, and affectionate
✅️Welcoming toward new people & fantastic with children
✅️Generally good with smaller animals (with exceptions in larger generations).
✅️Far less vocal than huskies & poms—often only occasional “woo-woos” or alert barks.

However they are also....
✅️ Harder to predict sizing
✅️ Come in a huge variety of colors & coat types which makes predicting hard again.
✅️ Can be a bit harder to nail down personality traits due to the diversity of the individual dogs.

Both have a very adaptable nature makes them a wonderful fit for for diverse households.

---

Final Thoughts

Both are beautiful, intelligent, atheltic and loyal and overall quite similar! There are a few small differences that may sway you one way or the other. Both choices are GREAT choices! Who doesn't love a miniature husky either way! ❤️🙏
Please remember there will be outliers in every breed and they are not a one size fits all. Check out the breed clubs for more information and buy from REPUTABLE breeders only!

**All dogs vary individually and it is important to know not all AKK are not bad and not all Pomskies are good. Individuality, how they are raised and more goes into a good dog becoming a great one.
