🆘 CROSS IS NOW URGENT🆘

After having lived months at the shelter, Cross is now at risk to be euthanized for medical reasons. Cross is an older man with some aches and pains, which causes him some trouble when walking. The shelter has been managing his pain and he seems to be responding well to the pain meds. However, since he is a senior with pre-existing medical and more susceptible to the virus, he has been placed on the “urgent” needs list.

Cross came in as shy stray but has turned out to be the sweetest soul. He has often been described as, “easy”, “gentle” and “well-mannered”. Nothing but good things are ever said about Cross.

Cross was assessed with other dogs at the shelter and did well (he will need to be kept separate initially and a slow intro will need to be done in home) and would do best in a home with either no children or children 12+. We have no information on how he is with cats. You can read Cross’ full medical and behavioral notes here: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/newhope/ViewDetail.aspx?ID=A4570499 . If you’re interested in adopting cross, please message our page as soon as possible.

It's been a very rough week at the shelter. Today we got in yet another stray who is in very bad shape. Gibbs was found at an RV park in horrible condition. He's very thin, covered in bite wounds from head to toe, infested with ticks, and his teeth are literally falling out. He went to the vet and was diagnosed with tick borne illness and will be on medication for 4 weeks. He also is being treated for infected wounds. After that, and after he is in better health, we will get his mouth taken care of. Gibbs is very friendly in spite of it all. He would really benefit from being in a foster home during his recovery, he deserves some TLC! We are unsure of how is is with other dogs, although so far he has been non reactive. Please contact the shelter at 520-432-6020 if you would like to foster Gibbs. Please consider donating to the care of Gibbs and the other animals we take in. ❌🆘😭SYLVIA E-LISTED😭🆘❌

💔💔ANOTHER SENIOR SCHEDULED TO BE EUTHANIZED 🆘🆘

Sylvia is a senior gal (8 yrs)who entered the shelter with a large mass on her right hind leg. MCACC surgically removed the mass.
The vet staff say she has medical issues that need evaluated outside of MCACC.

Sylvia is a wiggly, affiliative girl who is treat motivated. No dog evaluation completed due to her medical status.

It would be amazing if a rescue could pull her and get her the treatment she needs!

🆘❌🆘❌🆘❌🆘❌🆘❌

Here is how MCACC is managing the over population of dogs during the summer..

8 year olds Sylvia was brought to the shelter June 7th

She had a large mass removed (which is so surprising that they performed that surgery).

After sitting in S (medical wing) with no walks/attention/affection. They have decided to now EUTHANIZE on June 28th after she has been improving and healing from her surgery.

So 20 days in lockdown just to kill her for space.
20 days and only 1 day she was taken out of her kennel to be walked.
😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓

🌟She is a beautiful pittie mix
🌟Loves people and is a wiggly tailed girl
🌟She has not had a dog intro due to her medical status but has shown no aggression towards other dogs.

there was no plea for foster, no plea for adopter, no warning of putting her on the euthanasia list, no reason to even euthanize her what so ever 😓

This is the only picture MCACC has taken of her, due to them not letting volunteers in the S wing there was no way of networking her :(

Mr Feeny is a 7 year old Lab and Great Pyrenees mix who has lived a rough life- until now! He’s an easy going gentleman who everyone just falls in love with. When it comes to other dogs, he prefers easy going lady friends or being the only dog in the home. At 90+ pounds he has more than enough love to go around! The time commitment would likely be several weeks to months for Mr. Feeny since senior dogs can take a bit longer to find their forever home.

Does well with kids, people, dogs. Legs are so sore and hurting.. needs pain meds and soft comfy bed

❤️Look at Tyson’s beautiful smile! 💕

Can you believe TYSON was surrendered to the shelter because of a move??? 😩

Tyson is approximately 7 yrs old
He is a chunky guy who just likes to chill.
Tyson soaks in the attention and pets!
He sits for treats and takes them very gently

He has some swollen forelimbs and is receiving anti inflammatory medications.
He is able to walk, but shows discomfort at times.
Weight loss will help relieve some of the pressure on his joints!

Tyson needs follow up at family vet to ensure his medical needs are met.
He is a senior, and just like older people, he has aches and pains.

💥Tyson has not been evaluated with other dogs due to his medical status.💥

Do you have a soft spot for seniors like we do? 🥰
We have a LOT of seniors staying in our shelter right now, from noble shepherds to roly-poly pitties to genuine mystery mutts (and even littles and cats too!). Some of the benefits of senior pets include:
❤️ Most senior pets have already learned their basic training!
❤️ You get to skip the drama and destruction of puppyhood!
❤️ Their personalities are already fully developed!
❤️ Seniors tend to be lower maintenance and willing to nap when you're busy!
❤️ Most seniors are content with leisurely strolls, cuddling, and brief playtime (no 5am jogging)!
After all their years of being such good boys and girls, we want each and every one of them to find the loving forever home they deserve - one filled with soft comfy beds, endless belly rubs, and plenty of treats! Visit maricopa.gov/214/adopt to preview available shelter pets and reserve your appointment to adopt your new best friend. Adoption includes spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations, and many pets are ready to go home with you as soon as today - just in time for your afternoon nap! 🏠❤️💤
