It’s been a busy week! Yesterday we got 100 bales of hay & Joe’s been on the tractor combatting the mud. We are making a bit of progress with the Wild Girls, Cerril and Pequena. They get daily touching and there is a glimmer of a positive response without complete fear meltdown. Everyone is staying warm and dry in the near relentless rain in the San Diego mountains.

Another loooooooong day in Horse Rescue. We tried for over 2 hours to get a halter on Alejandro to bring him under a cover before the storm here broke. He has been good about us touching him but it was a no-go with the halter 😰
Then onto a vet appointment for Cambria, Siglo and Soltura. Cam & Soltura got their teeth done and boy were they sharp! Obviously this was the first time ever getting teeth floated.
Siglo has a lameness in his front leg that was addressed and it’s possibly a re-injury of the tendon. Will be getting some TLC in the upcoming weeks. And he also has a respiratory thing going on which resulted in a blood panel. And finally, he got his sheath cleaned.
I’m so thankful for the donations from friends that made this possible. Joe and I are exhausted but we wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s Patience that pays off. This is Cerril. She and Pequena have been terrified since they’ve been with us in foster care. Tonight was a breakthrough... but it wasn’t planned.
Joe & I were exhausted. We’ve been burning the candle at both ends lately. We’d been riding a parade all day and it was already past 8 pm when we finally went to feed. We were supposed to be quick and head to bed. But it didn’t turn out that way. It wasn’t on our time tonight. It was about the horses.
Determined to make a breakthrough with Cerril, Joe spent nearly 40 minutes touching her and finally earning enough trust to put a lead rope on her. Whew! I was nearly asleep on my feet giving them some space to do their thing. That’s when she decided we weren’t going to eat her and she stood patiently while I combed out the massive tangles from her mane. Another 45 minutes. Finally we ended with an all-over curry and a treatment on the skin fungus. Success!
Working with horses is humbling. Working with rescues is challenging. It challenges us as trainers and we are constantly reminded that there’s no 30 day bandaid or shortcut that we can speed up the process. It’s all about listening to the horse. And Patience!

Before and after a much-needed trim today on Soltura and Siglo. Thank you so much for the donations to make this possible. ❤️

Siglo says “Happy Friday!” He is glad the rain has stopped and has perked up considerably being in the barn and next to The Herd. He enjoys being fussed over immensely. ❤️

19/11/2019

Alejandro on lavender essential oil. He has been with us nearly two months and he wouldn’t let us near him much less touch him. He is starting to trust. At Liberty he will let us touch him and is enjoying getting scratched especially under his thick mane. He will let us touch his face. Next step is haltering!

19/11/2019

Soltura: Such a pretty girl and even though she’s slightly still nervous, she is learning quickly to trust again ❤️

19/11/2019

Trying out some of the Blissful Horse products today. Siglo has rubbed out all of his mane and some of his tail. He was treated with the Boo Boo spray to help his itchiness. ❤️

19/11/2019

Alejandro has decided we aren’t going to eat him. We are seeing him turn the corner and allowing us to get close. Aromatherapy is coming into play and is helping as well. Good boy! ❤️

19/11/2019

Poor boy. He has some recovery ahead of him 😰

Hard to see such a drop-dead gorgeous, sweet stallion in the state he is in today. We can’t wait to bring him back to former glory and give him a deserving home ❤️

18/11/2019

Welcome to the two newest rescues. Soltura and Siglo . Miss Solutra was greeted by Cambria who came from the same ranch about 50 days ago. More info and photos of these two tomorrow. It gets dark so early these days!

Please look at the albums of Cerril, Pequena and Alejandro who will all be needing new homes in the upcoming weeks. We are working on a adoption process for these guys. More horses are coming in on Sunday. Stay tuned! ❤️

Cartejena before and after photos. Happy to say she has been adopted! ❤️

12/11/2019

Puro was one of the saddest cases. He is in his twilight years and very sweet. He was imported from Peru and had quite an extensive show career. The wonderful news is that he has been adopted to live out his remaining years as a pasture puff

12/11/2019

We have a plan in action for veterinarian care. Cambria was seen today for health exam, f***l and vaccines. She is the strongest of the horses removed so far. Two others who have been adopted have also had their first vet appointment. Next group is in a couple weeks and will include much needed dental work after some basic halter training which will make the job much easier!
Thank you again for the donations to make this possible. ❤️

This is Joe working with Alejandro. He is an uber sensitive horse who is very scared but also isn’t the typical pompous Stallion. We don’t think he knows he’s a stud. Lol

Please consider helping with this project. We are in San Diego. All are Peruvian Horses. Feel free to contact me for more info. Our breed doesn’t have a specific rescue so a group of owners have stepped up to do the right thing. Every dollar counts. Thank you 🙏

This page is dedicated to the rehabilitation and potential adoption of a group of 20 Peruvian horses that are being rescued in San Diego county. Private owners and the county are working to place all the horses. It’s a slow process but we’ve been able to remove 6 already. Sadly, 3 had to be euthanized. Help is most appreciated, either monetary or physically. If you are interested in fostering or adopting feel free to message us. 🙏❤️
