Most people have the “never wake a sleeping baby” when it comes to training their puppy
You spend so much time redirecting, telling them “no”, taking the thing away, that when they’re calm, it’s like…. ❌ don’t wake the beast ❌
But puppies will always continue to engage in behaviors that get them attention
If you’re ONLY praising your puppy AFTER you redirect them-
🐾After they bite and you redirect to a toy and they start chewing on the toy
🐾After they grab the shoe, you take it away, and give them a toy
🐾After they bark, and you ignore until they stop, and they finally stop
🐾After they jump, and you say “off”, and they get off
Then they are learning that the “calm” behavior does not get attention, and the biting, barking, jumping, etc does
90% of training your puppy should be PREVENTING the behaviors from happening, by teaching your puppy what to do instead (what I call my gentle parenting and root cause approach) and only about 10% should be actually redirecting, meaning what to do WHEN they’re ALREADY biting, barking, etc
If you’re not getting many calm moments, and all day is focused on redirection, we’re not getting to the root of the behavior, and they’ll keep getting mixed signals about which behaviors you WANT them to engage in
When we teach your puppy what TO DO instead-
🐾How to get your attention in other ways, without biting (ie bringing you a toy, sitting, laying next to you with a toy)
🐾How to play with you without biting (ie instead of grabbing your shirt, pants, hair, grabbing a toy)
🐾How to be bored (ie instead of grabbing the window shade, rug, pillow, sock when they’re bored, or biting, to sit and calmly play with their own you near you)
It becomes natural for them “oh I’m bored, I’ll go lay down with my toy”, “oh I’m excited and want attention, let me grab a toy and bring it to mom”, and you’ll see more of that calm behavior
This is exactly what we work on toge
You’re highly motivated to train your puppy
You want a well behaved puppy and are willing to be 100% consistent, but you want to take the guess work out and you would rather invest in learning what to do and do it correctly from day one, rather than waiting, trying to figure it out on your own, and having to correct behaviors 3-4 months down the road

Being able to take your baby for a walk in the stroller, with your Stanley, and your dogs leash tied to your waste or around your hand as you hold the stroller, without worrying about them bolt when they see a dog or person and knocking the stroller over
Being able to take them to the dog friendly restaurant, or brewery with you, and your baby, with them calmly laying next to you
Being able to nurse with your dog calmly playing with their toy 3-4 ft by you without barking at noises and waking the baby up
Doesn’t start when you get pregnant and realize “oh shiz”, it starts when you’re building habits, a foundation, when they’re newly home to you, in the first hours, days and weeks
You already know the importance of laying the ground work with your puppy from the start
Growing up, you were around dogs who jumped on people, pulled on leash, maybe had separation anxiety, and although you love them to 💀, you say how challenging that made it for your family to bring them in public, on walks, or have guests over, and you want to do everything you can with your new puppy to prevent those things
You’re also future focused. You don’t just want your puppy to know tricks, you want to be the person who’s dog can go everywhere with you- on walks with you holding coffee, to the brewery, on dog friendly restaurants
You know you want to start training right away, but also know you want more than a puppy kindergarten, and don’t want to send them to a board and train and miss that bonding opportunity
My focus inside of my 1:1 program has always been training your puppy to not just be a pet, but to be your best friend and adventure buddy for life. It’s you being able to have the freedom to wake up on a Saturday morning, and decide that it’s a nice day, and you want to take your puppy to the dog friendly restaurant, and being able to do it without having to time it for a “less busy” time, or having it be a game of “how many times can I say “l
Could’ve taught me this lesson in ANYYYY other way dad… but that’s on trauma😂
But it taught me what I know now and it is why my clients see progress with me faster than they even thought possible inside of my 1:1 online puppy training program

🐾Since the first week my clients puppy Maverick came home, he has been fully potty trained & crate trained
🐶She only “struggled” with puppy biting for a few days before we nipped it in the bud
🦮And because we’ve incorporated independence training from day one, he will play on his own while my client does her own thing, without biting, barking for attention, or getting into things
🍔She also lives in a dog friendly area, and wanted to be able to take her puppy to dog friendly restaurants, on long walks without him pulling, around her family, and for him to be well behaved both with her, but in other scenarios too. So because we have prioritized this from the beginning, at just 4 months old he will sit calmly by her side at family parties and by her feet at a busy dog friendly restaurant
And this all happened because from the first 30 minutes that Maverick has come home, we have been focusing on creating good habits, and preventing unwanted behaviors
Most people will wait to “see how things go” before investing into training
But training a puppy is like building a 🏠 .. the foundation is the most important
When your puppy comes to you, it is a clean slate. You are creating a foundation in the first hours, days, weeks that they are home
And it is a lot easier to build a solid foundation from the beginning-
to teach your puppy not to bite from the beginning, rather than waiting for them to put holes in your clothes, and you being overwhelmed because all they do is bite
To teach them to be ok being bored from the beginning, rather than waiting for them to constantly be biting, never calm down, bark at you for attention,, and you feeling like you have no moment of peace in your day and have to entertain them 24/7
To teach them not to jump on your guests from the beginning, rather than waiting for them to be like a linebacker the second people walk through the door and you feeling embarrassed
When you take a proactive approach to trainin
