She pulls the blooms off the gomphrena and the puffs off the love in a puff. She plucks petals from the dahlias and tosses them in the air like they’re fistfuls of feather confetti.

The thing is, I can’t bring myself to be upset about it. For her, this rain gauge exists to hold the treasures she finds. For her, the garden dances with delight. For her, everything about creation should be celebrated.

I’d have to agree.

Yesterday the kids took their special friends to a stuffie well-check at our local library. They got to act as doctors and give their friends a check-up. These pictures are just too cute to not devote a permanent square to them.

(If you’re not utilizing your library regularly, I highly recommend it. Let these 9 pictures be an example of the library system’s imagination and investment poured into our communities.)

• H E L L O, F A L L •

I suppose this is my goodbye summer post, but truthfully it’s more of a welcoming of and also a farewell to summer.

We had the sweetest of summers. It was so much more chaotic than it ought to have been, but it was truly steeped in some magical memories with our toddlers.

It’s precisely because I wanted to soak in these precious days that I silently took a pause from social media. There was a story here and there, but I was largely absent. Now, though, a carousel of photos to share the memories and say hello to you again.

Happy Epiphany!

We feasted with friends tonight. Our children greeted them with gold paper crowns and shouts of excitement to celebrate this day when the wise men, led by the Star of Bethlehem, met baby Jesus.

Our house is adorned with stars; the Epiphany garland sparkles in the darkness.

Rejoice! A star of hope shines bright.

This weekend I designed the final bouquet order of the 2022 flower season.

What a joy it has been to flower for so many of you this year! I have loved sharing our flowers with new and regular faces for wedding showers, baby showers, subscribers, birthdays, funerals, I love yous, illnesses, and more. It has been an honor.

Now we submit to the winter months of prepping garden spaces, planning flowers, sharing our holiday offerings, etc. But mostly we will be reflecting on the joy that the season brought us.

Thank you again, and I hope to see more of you next year!

It is estimated that, in the United States, 600,000 people sleep on the streets each night. That’s a lot of cold feet this winter.

Join Periwinkle Flower Co. in collecting socks to help our unhoused neighbors of Grand Rapids stay a little warmer this winter.

Socktober donations can be received any day in October. You can drop them off in the box in the Periwinkle gardens. You can also mail them if you’re not local.

Our goal is 500 pairs of socks this year. Will you help us meet that goal?

This dahlia was grown from seed, which means I was 100% surprised by its beauty when it bloomed. It’s one of the best kinds of surprises.
