A very big thank you to everyone who sent in entries for the Christmas card! The winner will be announced after the cards have hit the mail! We hope you all enjoyed highlighting some of your favorite stock and we certainly enjoyed getting my to look through them. We hope to do this again next year so keep up the good work!

✨Important Announcement✨

Everywhere we go we brag on our clients and the quality of cattle we get to work with every day. We love to see the cattle we play a small role in their lives go out there and win shows, top sales, and raise calves that get out there and change their breeds for the better.

This year we wanted to find a way to brag on those cattle a little harder than normal, so we are giving up the front of our Christmas card. You can drop a picture in the comments, tag us, email us, or text us a picture of an animal that you are proud of, but be sure to tell us why that animal is special to you and how we played a role in that animal’s life. We know it does not come naturally to most of you, but brag hard on those animals that you have worked so hard for! The card pictured above is just an example and it does not have to be a professional picture. And last but not least, YOU CAN ENTER AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WOULD LIKE!!!

The deadline to enter is November 12th, and the winner will be chosen to have a place of honor on the front of the GRET Christmas card (and if you don’t know… that mailing list is a pretty special one to get your cattle on).

We can’t wait to see all of your cattle so let the contest begin!

In the Embryo business there are a lot of statistics. The number of embryos recovered from a donor, the percentage of good embryos, the number of usable heats in a recip herd, and so on. But for us there is one statistic that means more to us than any of the others put together.

The number of calves that hit the ground, get up, and nurse.

Yes all of the other numbers are important too. But we know those numbers are just numbers until they turn into calves. That is where we are able to help add value to your herd and we are here to do just that.

We are loving the calving reports we are getting as fall calving gets rolling and cannot wait to hear more!

Did you know we offer donor housing? Our donor manager, Jared Hart, handles all of the shots and breeding to get these ladies ready for the upcoming flush date at the farm. This is a great option for anyone looking to add convenience to the conventional flush process! If you are interested in finding out more about the donor housing process or availability you can call Scott Burks at 270-670-3100 for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!

About GRET

Growing up on a dairy, cattle reproduction was always a part of Dr. Levi Holt’s daily life. When their family farm transitioned out of the dairy business into the registered Angus world, he got his first experiences with Embryo Transfer through work that Dr. Herb Brown did on the farm.

During his time at the University of Tennessee for both his undergraduate degree and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, cattle and cattle reproduction were always at the forefront of his education. He participated on numerous teams and clubs including the Livestock Judging team, Food Animal Club, Palpation Team, and was even able to complete an externship with Dr. Brown at Green River Embryo Transfer.

After completing his time in Knoxville, Levi returned to his hometown of Livingston, TN to work at the mixed animal practice in town. After a few years, the opportunity arose to take over GRET as Dr. Brown was ready to retire. So after stepping back from mixed animal practice and working with Dr. Brown for a year, Levi became the official owner and operator of Green River Embryo Transfer.

Today, he runs the practice along with his wife Caroline and Scott Burks. The practice is mobile, but there are facilities available for any clients who wish to haul in their cattle. They specialize in conventional flushing Embryo Transfer, as well as other reproductive technologies and have extensive experience in dealing with IVF incubators and transfers and would love to be of any assistance they can with any of your reproductive needs.
