I'm so happy to say that after 9 months we have finally backed Jewel. We've had many a challenge along the way but she does so many things SO well after 9 months. She can solidly tie, have a bath, get her bridlepath, jaw and legs clipped with no halter on, stand quietly for the farrier, be alone or in a "herd' without fuss, get sprayed with fly spray, put her head down to get her halter on, etc.... We've had issues with leading her and had to have a consult with Evelyn of Windy Ridge Mustangs of Virginia. Evelyn was amazing. We took a step back and began "leading" Jewel without a halter or rope on her. We came a long way and will continue to work on that. But, best of all my husband, Bill Finger, has fallen in love with this girl and claimed her as his own. We've been married almost 20 years. In that time I did not have a horse until last June when we aquired an amazing Off the Track TB. In August we adopted Jewel. Bill was NOT a horseman, but he learned VERY quickly and when it came time to sit on Jewels back for the first time, he was the one to do it. I am so proud of both of them. We have no timeline with this mare. If it takes forever, we are committed to her!
