Holy long day. Left my house at 7 am got home at 5:15. Outreach days are my FAVORITE day of the week. First fiasco was spotting a little stray dog and following it for about 15 minutes and after losing it in the cemetery and talking to morning walkers they said he has been on that same street 2 days now eating garbage. Clearly dumped or left but NOT coming to anyone. Watching him cross the road almost getting hit several times as I was driving with my hazards to follow.. everyone got fresh good meals wonderful donated bones which they all loved! Fresh straw in houses, fresh water and Winter tarps taken off and few coats too. Rest of straw kennel clean outs is next few weeks! We stopped to try and help get another stray.. or we thought. Stopping traffic as cars were coming in both directions . All 3 of us out of the truck trying to ONLY have the owner about 4 houses down yell to the dog “ you get back here. Would have easily been hit. Why people can’t watch their dogs BLOWS my mind. Dropped off two houses to a new stop we got last weekend so now all three have shelter food and bones. Owner and his wife were very appreciative and even stopped us as we were driving away saying “ we would like to buy you lunch for all you are doing” I thought it was extremely nice, declined and said just keep taking care of your dogs that is thanks enough. Onto another stop whose dogs live all indoors but as he came out to get the food.. he had a gift for my grandson, a Mickey Mouse folding chair, a really cool solar light for me and a very nice card! We then headed back to look for stray dog and low and behold another lady was trying to get him. The dog is terrified, in flight mode and has a pattern as we followed him exactly the way I myself did this am. Sadly we lost him again and even got out and walked on foot thru the cemetery. Last stop for food, straw and taking tarps down came outside and handed me $20 for gas. She said you need this and thank you for all you do. I gave her a big hug and again am so humbled by all the generosity today. I am blessed with wonderful owners . Dino King and Cardi got more play time outside their kennels and to see ALL of their personalities shine is the best feeling. The owner here who is “ currently away” I spoke to on the phone today for the first time. His words were “ thank you for all you have done for my dogs and helping my Mom as she can’t do it alone .” Stopped and saw Bully and he wasn’t in his kennel BUT in the front yard with his owners and kids playing ! I gave them my shedding glove and a new brush and away they went! Stopped on way out of Flint and got a load of straw from the farmer and then unloaded my disaster of a truck! Thank you to Samantha Spiekerman and Angelynn Dorff for ALL your amazing hard work. I truly am the fortunate our paths crossed! Paws Up.
