WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! SURGERY CASE COMING IN!

Meet Marimo!!

Marimo was found about two weeks ago on a sidewalk in New Britain, CT— nearly frozen solid. Luckily, several amazing employees at went to collect her when animal control wasn’t answering the phone.

Marimo is a female, juvenile Green Iguana. We are unsure what her previous situation was, however, we know that she needed us to help out our wonderful friends at !

Marimo is quite tame and friendly, with no signs of MBD, so she definitely had a good home at one point. She eats well (right from your hand) and is really active.

However, Marimo does have a healed break in her tail, and worse, a necrotic tail tip. She is currently on 3 weeks of antibiotics from our friends and will need surgery for the amputation of her tail.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Marimo can only have A Shedding Chance because of all of YOU! We are accepting donations ASAP to help this baby get the love and medical care she deserves.

To support us, share this post and donate to Marimo by selecting your preferred platform (Venmo, Paypal, Cash-app, or Gofundme) here: https://linktr.ee/asheddingchance

Welcome to the Frog ID fam for !

FrogID Week, hosted by the Australian Museum, is Australia's biggest frog count. Held annually, it's when anyone with a smartphone can help record frog calls through the free FrogID app, and help better understand frogs and environmental health around the country.

Until 17 November, use the free FrogID app to record the frogs calling around you and help count Australia’s frogs.

To make things even sweeter, all the data submitted to the FrogID app feeds into our Atlas of Living Australia, Australia's biodiversity database!

It hasn't felt like it lately here in the 'Sip, but winter is actually approaching. Ever wondered what happens to turtles and tortoises during winter? Check out the attached graphic to learn more.

Bonus Fact: turtles actually cue in on the number of daylight hours, more so than the drop in temperatures, to determine when to start preparing for their winter rest period. This is important info to know if you keep turtles as pets. If you don't brumate your pet turtles, it's best to keep them away from windows and keep their UVB (sun) light on for 12-14 hours per day so that they don't realize the days are getting shorter.

We were surrendered one of the most obese Yellow Bellied Sliders I’ve ever seen. Yellow-bellied sliders can develop obesity and edema (fluid retention) due to improper care. Here’s how to prevent and spot these issues:

🐢Obesity🐢
Causes: Overfeeding and lack of exercise.

Signs: Swollen body, trouble swimming, low energy.

Prevention: Feed a balanced diet (greens, occasional protein), provide swimming space, and avoid overfeeding.

🐢Edema🐢
Causes: Kidney problems, infections, poor water quality.

Signs: Swelling in legs, neck, or belly, lethargy.

Prevention: Keep water clean and warm, offer a proper diet. Seek vet care if swelling occurs.

Proper feeding, exercise, and habitat care are key to preventing both obesity and edema in your turtle. Consult a vet if you notice any issues.
