Eggs are full of health benefits for dogs, they are high in protein and contain a wide range of essential vitamins and minerals. We always advise using organic and free-range eggs for your pooch.

Recipe idea 1 (The Simple One)
Just add an egg to your dog's food bowl! Yes, they can eat the shell too! Some people crack the egg and crush the shell, but you can also pop the egg in whole (you may want to feed your dog in the garden if you are doing this).

Recipe idea 2 (The Cute One)
Chick Kong using boiled eggs. The body is made from half a boiled egg, and the features are 'stuck on' using natural yoghurt. The 'beak' is made from a piece of carrot. You could even use a Nutriment Trachea rather than a Kong for fully edible fun!

Recipe Idea 3 (the one for upset tummies)
If your dog has had an upset tummy, you could try a gentle dinner such as scrambled eggs. We also highly recommend Nutrabio for short term tummy upsets.

For more information on how to feed eggs to your dog, and on why feeding eggs to your dog is such a good idea click here to read this article from Dogs Naturally Magazine.

Raw chews and bones are a wonderful addition to your pet's diet. They can help maintain good dental health, calm anxious dogs and may help to keep joints healthy. Read our guide to see which bones and chews best suit your pet.

Dogs from 8 weeks old: Dogs from 8 weeks old will enjoy Beef Trachea, Beef Chunks, Tripe Chunks and Poultry Hearts.

Dogs from 10 weeks old: From 10 weeks onwards, dogs who have had time to get to grips with the chews above will enjoy Turkey Necks, Duck Necks, Chicken Necks, Duck Wings and Chicken Wings

Dogs from 6 months old: At 10 months and older dogs who are used to raw treats and chews will enjoy Marrow Bones, Knuckle Bone, Beef Ribs, Lamb Ribs and Lamb Necks.

Cats: Poultry hearts, Tripe Chunks, Rabbit Chunks, Rabbit Liver and Rabbit Kidney.

Top tips:

Choose the right sized chew for your dog (your local pet shop can help you with this)
Raw bones are fine but don't feed your dog cooked bones as these can splinter and cause injury
You may want to separate your dogs if you have more than one dog in your home, raw chews are high value!
Follow good food hygiene procedures
Dispose of the chew after 24 hours

Don't forget to supervise your dog with raw bones, chews and treats just to be on the safe side. If you are feeding bones as a treat (as opposed to as part of a DIY raw diet) aim for 1-3 bones a week. If your dog becomes constipated or their poo turns white, we advise cutting down the amount of bone in their diet.

According to pet surveys, most people want to get cats for pets because they believe that all cats are gentle and sweet. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone. Some people complain about the aggression in their cats. Constant hissing, clawing, and biting from the meowing pet you adore isn't what you wanted when you took the tiny kitten home. Because most cat owners don't understand this aggression, their cat ends up in the nearest shelter.

If your cat shows sudden aggression, animal scientists say that you should bring your cat to your veterinarian immediately. This sudden change in behaviour may be a sign of an underlying health condition. Your cat's aggression may be due to pain from conditions such as arthritis or infection. The earlier we detect this health issue, the sooner your cat can go back to being gentle. Book an appointment now. Link in Bio!

It is important to remove ticks from your pet as soon as possible to prevent the tick from infecting them with Lyme disease. Lyme's disease is an infection caused by the bite of a tick and can cause a circular rash around a tick bite. Dogs, cats and humans can all get Lyme disease.

How To Use Tick Twister:

1. Select the correct sized tool according to the size of the tick; the large hook for medium and large ticks or the small hook for small and very small ticks.

2. Hold the handle between your thumb and index finger and slide the fork end of the tool toward the tick until it is caught between prongs.

3. Lift the tool very lightly and rotate in either direction for several (2-3) turns. You will feel when the tick has released its mouthparts and it is safe to pull up on the tick and Tick Twister.

After removing the tick, you may want to treat the area with saltwater or our pet-friendly Leucillin Antiseptic Spray. Link in Bio!

Joint Care for dogs - Top Tips and Ingredients to Look out for 🐶

You may notice that your pooch gets a bit slower on walks, develops a limp or struggles to get up from lying down. These may be indicators of underlying joint issues.

Our top tips for managing joint issues in dogs are:

1) Our number one top tip is to keep your dog at a healthy weight. If your dog is overweight this can put extra strain on their joints, and ultimately lead to a decreased quality of life. Email us today to book a weight management check-up. This includes a weigh-in and advice from our expert team.

2) Look for foods that contain ingredients such as Green Lipped Mussels (such as Eden Semi-moist Duck & Tripe) or food containing salmon which is high in Omega-3 (such as Nutriment Salmon and Chicken). Our team will be able to give you any advice you need on specific products.

3) You may want to add a joint supplement such as Nutraquin or Nutraquin Plus. This amazing supplement works much faster than some other joint supplements, you can expect to see results in as little as 4-7 days. Nutraquin uses 100% natural ingredients such as Boswellia Extract and Glucosamine HCL. We are not allowed to sell Nutraquin online, however, we always have a good stock of this product in our shop. There is a loyalty scheme for Nutraquin, so you get every 7th box free.

4) If you feel your pet's issues are having a big impact on their quality of life then it may be time to book an appointment to see one of our holistic vets (we offer in-person and zoom appointments) or perhaps it may be time to book a 15-minute Myotherapy assessment session for only £15.

03/05/2022

Protein and Amino Acids are essential for your cat's health. As obligate carnivores, cats thrive on high-quality protein. Eggs are the perfect bundle of protein, amino acids and essential vitamins and minerals.

How can you feed eggs to your cat:

Due to the way cats' bodies function, they need daily doses of certain minerals. For this reason, an egg can be given to a cat as an extra treat but not as a replacement for a complete and balanced meal.

As always, when introducing a new food watch for signs of allergies. Keep an eye out for increased scratching or hair loss. If you notice either of these it may be worth booking a chat with your vet.

One egg can be around half of your cat's daily calorific need (depending on the exact size of the egg and your cat's activity level), so this is definitely a treat to be given in moderation. We don't advise giving overweight cats or cats with kidney issues eggs. This is due to the fat content in eggs.

Benefits: Vitamins & Minerals
Eggs contain Fatty Acids, Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, Folate, Riboflavin, Iron and Selenium. All essential nutrients for happy, healthy pets!

Benefits: Protein
Eggs are an 'eggcellent' (sorry) way to add protein to your pet's diet. Eggs are one of the most complete sources of amino acids, which are essential for healthy cats!

4 Things You Should Never Do To Your Cat.

1. Don't force your life on to your cat
Cats like human attention, but in lesser quantities and on their own terms than dogs. You should respect your feline companions' basic needs and never impose attention on them, such as by holding them against their will.

2. Be careful which plants you bring in to your home
Check out the Cats Protection League website for a comprehensive list of what to avoid (spoiler: Lilys can be poisonous to cats!)

3. Don't let your cat play with yarn or string.
Ingestion of yarn or thread might result in what veterinarians refer to as a linear foreign body. If you have any doubts regarding the safety of any of your pets' toys, see your veterinarian.

5. Leave your cat alone for no more than 24 hours at a time.
Many individuals choose to adopt cats over dogs because they believe cats are self-sufficient. Cats, however, are not self-sufficient loners, despite being more independent than dogs.
If you are unable to arrange for a friend or family to visit your home while you are away, a pet sitter may be able to help.

Sometimes, you just have to paws and think about our planet. 🐱 💚 🌍
Want to try and reduce your environmental impact?

1) Look for brands which use British meat. British farming methods have a lower environmental impact than other global farming practices (such as Hug)
2) Explore using an insect protein (this is also GREAT for pets with allergies). We recommend Yora
3) Find out which brands use recycled or recyclable materials (such as Hug or Paleo Ridge)
4) Research companies who minimise their water usage (such as Whimzees and Yora)
5) Be aware of the DEVASTATING impact that pesticide based flea and tick treatments have on our water life. Explore alternatives such as Billy No Mates, Tropiclean Flea and Tick range or Hilton Herbs Ticks Off.

The Ziggys team are always happy to help advise :)

Whether your pet gets nervous at the groomers or anxious when traveling these powerful yet natural ingredients may help. Read our guide to know what to look for on the labels of natural calming products. Don't forget our highly trained team are here to email either in-store, over the phone, or via email.

Scullcap!
Contains a number of valuable compounds including those which bind to the GABA receptor and reduce anxiety. It is a strong calmer which does not induce drowsiness in your pet so is great for competition dogs.

Many of our popular calming products contain Scullcap including Dorwest Scullcap and Valerian which is suitable for cats and dogs. This comes in a pack of 100 tablets or a pack of 500 tablets. A small dog will take one tablet a day, which will cost just over 12p per day.

Chamomile!
Is a herbal calming supplement that can be used for humans, dogs, and sometimes cats. Chamomile can help ease anxiety and is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. We recommend using a product that contains chamomile or speaking to a homeopath as the wrong amounts can do more harm than good.

Valerian!
One of the most popular calming ingredients and (in the right quantities) can be used for all companion animals. It is excellent for calming fearful pets (i.e. pets scared by fireworks), aiding sleep, and relaxing muscles. You can find Valerian in a range of Ziggys products.

Lemon Balm!
A herb which can (in the right quantities) have an amazing calming affect on cats, dogs and horses.
We stock a range of treats for cats and dogs which contain lemon balm.
