Filled the old incubators this weekend.... 215 eggs in.... heres hoping for a good hatch....

We also moved the oldest batch up to the farm.... Some slow feathering c***s in this lot...

Egg Colour.....

From my experience over the years, Marans egg colour is always best when birds start to lay and for a few weeks after that...
Then I find it dips off. I also find it can vary massively as much as Day to day....... even from the same Bird....

Cold snaps, Hot spells, upset and everything in-between can make them lay paler eggs....

The last couple of days the eggs have come back to a decent egg colour.....
Why...... I dont know... but clearly something.......
Always buy birds and eggs from a reliable source, even if the eggs aren't as Dark as you expected when purchased..., the breeder will always do the best to sell eggs from pens that have a high chance of producing dark eggers..... although this is never a guarantee from dark egg layers......

What do others find with their birds.... be interesting to hear...... ???

Someone I know from up Cumbria had some stock off me and has integrated into his line....

I was blown away with the quality of the birds he showed me ....

So this season we have exchanged eggs.

Its better to work with other breeders and help better the breed not just for me and him but for everyone to reap the benefits ......

I have also kindly been gifted some lovely French Cuckoo eggs. Again from a breeder I work with. They were my stock originally but have always loved the cockereland birds they have. So I have some really dark eggs cooking in the incubator as we speak. 🙂

The Breda haven’t gotten much attention lately.
I love these birds. The black boy is needing to move on, but we have such a nice relationship with him we hate to replace him.
Since my silkies are busy trashing themselves I’ve thought about bringing the Breda to some shows.

Hello everyone I'm now a living proof of Anderson Dean good work. After hearing so much about them. I decided to give it a try and bought a calf from them that was delivered to me in Michigan. I'm happy to say it was worth every penny. I can't believe I now own a mini cattle 🥰 . Not just any Mini but little babies! I'm so in love and I highly recommend them to whoever is interested in getting one. They're the Best . Thanks so much ❤️.we couldn't wait to take pictures with her on arrival lol. Side note, they has new neighbors already 😂 some new friends.
