Is your dog doing nothing?
Just laying on the floor?
Being quiet?
Being good?

Reward them for it. Reinforce the doing nothing.

One of the most over looked behaviors is the dog just hanging out being calm. A dog who is doing nothing is most likely doing what most owners want their dog to be doing but it is the least rewarded activity. Sit and down are great but what about just relaxing around the house?

Nuisance activities are easy to spot because they are annoying. Good behaviors are more tricky because they are quiet and don't cause disruption or disturbance.

Go out of your way to acknowledge the good even if it looks like nothing because that is exactly what you want your dog to be doing.

Everyone has heard of a doodle but this is actually an original dating back to 1881.

This handsome fella is a pudelpointer, a cross of the German hunting poodle and an English pointer.

High energy with a strong desire to work make this mix a great hunting dog and a challenging house pet if left to his own devices.

He is a perfect example of why researching and finding the breed that fits your specific lifestyle are so very important. Teaching obedience to breeds designed for work is only half of the solution. Working dogs need outlets that meets both their mental and athletic needs.

This lucky dog's owners may not hunt but are willing to learn to love him in the way he needs and I am overjoyed to be able to make that happen.

Having issues with your dog checking out?

Keep training interesting by adding a little movement in between commands.

Issac was a very timid dog at times and would essily get distracted by things in his environment but by building a relationship of trust and making training fun he built the confidence to try new things.

I gave him a little extra boost before asking him to go into the tunnel because he had a fear of tight spaces. He did fantastic.

👏Pay👏 your👏 dog👏

When your dog does what you want them to do, pay them.

You wouldn't want to go to a job everyday and never get paid, the same can be said about your dog.

Dogs choose to do what we ask and paying them for complying will keep them willing to make the right choice next time AND will enhance your relationship.

Payment comes in many forms, some of the main ones are physical affection, playing with a toy and treats.

It is as easy as:

1.Your dog does the correct behavior
2.pay them to reinforce the behavior
3.more likely to do it again

I'm sure wearing a muzzle isn't the most comfortable thing in the world and neither is maintaining the sit pretty. The muzzle is necessary for certain situations and the sit pretty helps with strengthening his core, he does it willing because I have followed those steps. He could shake the muzzle right off but he chooses to keep it on because he knows I am going to pay him.

Dogs are geographical, which means they associate rules and behaviors to physical places. Training in new areas with different distractions gives your dog an opportunity to learn that you expect the same performance no matter where you or what what is going on.
