Great work team! 🤩 During October we came together to be more active for our own wellbeing and to fundraise for Vetlife.

Together we moved more than 7000 miles and raised over £2000 to allow Vetlife to continue supporting our profession.

💛Thank you so much for taking part.

Well done Arrowfield Vets for completing a virtual circumnavigation of Wales for the Vet Month of Movement. 👏👏👏

💚Over the past month the team at AVP have been completing an exercise challenge, designed to increase awareness of and promote mental health. We have also been raising money for two amazing charities, VetLife and Mind.

💪Our target was to complete a distance equal to the perimeter of Wales (1027 miles) and our team surpassed this by completing a huge 1319.35 miles!

💙We also set a target to raise £1027, a pound per mile, for VetLife and Mind, so we would be so grateful if you could help us achieve this by following the link below.

Together, during the Vet Month of Movement, we’ve been active for over 3000 miles and raised more than £1000 for Vetlife. 💚

The money raised will be valuable in allowing Vetlife to continue supporting members of our profession who are struggling.

Importantly, VMoM is also about helping members of the community be more active to support their own mental wellbeing and we hope that VMoM has given you a foundation or an extra boost to continue to stay active in the months to come 🤸‍♀️

We have 1 week of VMoM left. Let’s keep up our incredible effort!

The Vet Month of Movement kicks off NEXT Friday! And it’s not too late to decide to take part.

Exercise reduces stress, boosts self-esteem, improves problem solving abilities and increases concentration and creativity. Yet, it tends to be the first thing we drop when life gets busy. VMoM is the perfect opportunity to get out our trainers and make time for exercise again.

My team at County Vets are taking on a virtual LEJOG for VMoM. Together we’ll be aiming to clock up 874 miles during October by any active means we choose. Our 1000km challenge in May 2020 was the inspiration behind VMoM so I am excited to be taking part for Vetlife with these girls again! 💜

Is your practice getting involved? What challenge have you chosen? Let me know in the comments 👇

The Vet Month of Movement starts in only a few weeks, on the 1st of October.

Exercise reduces stress, boosts self-esteem, improves problem solving abilities and increases concentration and creativity. Yet, it tends to be the first thing we drop when life gets busy. VMoM is the perfect opportunity to get out our trainers and make time for exercise again.

Last year practices and individuals across the country took part by walking, running, cycling, horse-riding, paddle-boarding, rock climbing, yoga, HIIT work-outs and even aerial arts! Set yourself a challenge that allows everyone in your team to take part through the activities they enjoy the most.

By taking part in VMoM, you will not only benefit your own mental wellbeing, but you will also help spread the message through your team and the wider community that whatever you’re facing, you’re not alone. By fundraising for Vetlife through your VMoM challenge, you can ensure they continue to be there for everyone who needs them.

What activities will you be taking part in during VMoM? Will you be trying something new? You might discover you also love running, or maybe running isn’t for you and you prefer to get out on the bike. The time you create to exercise is purely for you so whichever activity you choose, make sure you enjoy it and it helps to clear your head after a hectic day too.

Getting outdoors during the week is hard, never mind just setting aside some time for ourselves. But, it is so valuable in resetting our minds, ready for another day.

Have you managed to be active outside of work this week?

VMoM could help you turn the intention to be more active during the week into a long term habit by keeping you accountable for the first few weeks when forming good habits is hardest.

Exercise and Mental Health

The Active Vet Movement has been created with the aim of providing a supportive structure for everyone in the veterinary community to discover the benefits of exercise to mental wellbeing and enhance our relationships with our colleagues and friends. I hope that by capturing lots of our stories of how exercise has positively affected our lives in one space we will help motivate others to start exercising, or work towards their active goals too.

Join in:

Send us your story. Do you enjoy taking part in regular exercise? Have you found an innovative way to fit exercise around your busy schedule? Have you taken on a big adventure? Or is exercise also part of your mental health toolkit? We would love to share your story and help inspire others in the community.
