Boogie Along Farm & Rescue was established in 2017. Here at Boogie Along Farm we make second chances We take on Owner Surrender Cases as well.

Welcome to Boogie Along Farm & Rescue, where second chances are made, saving one life with no voice at a time. Our goal is to save as many equines as possible from the slaughter pipeline, whether they are in auction houses or have already made their way to a kill pen. Our top priority is getting the equines safe whether it is at our rescue or another one, or even helping get them into a loving for

ever home. Boogie Along Farm & Rescue is not a 501c3 registered rescue, but we are still considered non-profit we just do not have the tax exemption status. However, we do gratefully accept donations of supplies & funds from anyone who wishes to help us in the battle to end equines being shipped across the border for the purpose of slaughter. No equine deserves to serve its human family and then be sold to slaughter because they are simply “useless” or “unwanted” or a big one “I don’t want to feed them through winter”. They deserve to be loved from newborn to senior years until they cross the rainbow bridge. No donation is too small in helping save these precious lives. Anyone who would like to donate to help save these equines can direct message us for our Paypal or Venmo information, or you can go directly to our current post on equines we have active fundraisers on for a direct link there as well. Please remember these equines are given a deadline, typically a week or less to find their forever homes before being loaded on a semi and hauled across the border to the slaughterhouse. Please share the post of equines needing saved or their fundraisers and help us be their voice. We also assist our local authorities with stray equines needing held during a stray hold before finding them approved forever homes. All Equines are adopted out under a strict "no rehome" contract. If at any time the adopter is no longer able or no longer wanting their adopted equine they have to return it to the rescue. They cannot be given away, sold, or taken to auction. It has been a few weeks since we posted a Rescue Photo Portfolio update so what perfect time than now?

This week we would like to introduce you to Chance. Chance was rescued after a tornado hit Birchwood TN, and the farm he was in the path of the storm. Unfortunately his owners were more concerned about their venue rebuild then repairing Chance’s field or having him checked by a vet after confirming he was thrown by the tornado.

We were able to convince his owners to let him go but only if we paid $300 for him. Like a boss all of our supporters came through and we were able to raise enough funds to get him out and into a new home and had some extra funds to send with him to help with his initial start up care he needed, groceries included!

Chance was vetted and found to be older and luckily his leg was not broken but he did have some arthritis and needed a retirement home. His new home was perfect, they had a senior horse that needed a buddy and now he’s living the best retirement life! He has put weight on nicely and we see updates on him living his best life!

We will start off our Rescue Photo Portfolio with our true CEO of Boogie Along Farm & Rescue.

Mr.Wilson was found on Craigslist for $300 in June of 2013, he came to us 200+ pounds underweight, frightened, beat up not by other horses but at the hands of a horse trader. He was dangerous to be around, but we knew he needed someone to be a voice for him. To prove he could be more than what the trader deemed him as, “worthless, not worth the lead it would take to put him down”.

We were told he would never be rideable or amount to anything and if we didn’t buy him, they were going to shoot him. We could not let that happen, even if we only had 6 months of horse ownership experience. So with a lot of trust building, love, care and nutrition he proved to be even more!

Mr.Wilson has been trail riding all over TN and N.GA. He has been in chest deep water, fun shows, a wedding, and even a few Christmas Parades!

He is now our prime horse on the farm that we use to teach people how to properly pick a hoof out because he is gentle and patient with having his hooves picked out.

Mr.Wilson came to us with allergies causing him to have boogers in his eyes, resulting in a nickname of Boogs or Boogie, that is how Boogie Along Farm & Rescue became more than just a dream, but a reality.

Mr.Wilson is owned by the owner of Boogie Along Farm & Rescue (Jessica Russell). He is healthy, happy and loves treats and always happy to greet people.

We are in need of a stock style trailer specifically for the rescue (currently we use my personal trailer), trailer needs to be big enough for at least two horses in it. If anyone has one within 3 hours of Chattanooga Tn they would like to sale at an affordable rate please let us know (we are not asking for one donated as we are not a 501c3/tax deductible, but we would definitely not turn it down).

Minor work is not an issue as long as the shell/frame and axle are in good condition. Age isn’t a big deal as long as it’s functional, prefer a title but not a deal breaker for the right deal.

Courtesy post: Meet Oakley, a 3 year old, Great Prynese, male in-tact (needs neutered). Been around chickens, but can’t guarantee he is a good guardian of livestock. He is having trouble getting g along with the other male dog on property.

Meet Tito!! He is looking for his forever home! He is so sweet and polite. He will lick all over you! Even at the event Park(ing) Day he hasn’t shown any aggression towards other dogs when I was near him. I was asked to help with this pup. Owner lost their job and cannot afford to keep her. She will be a year old in November. Unsure how she is with other animals, loves kids, very sweet. Is not spayed yet (had to cancel her appointment when job was lost). Free to a good home, needs placement asap

Does anyone remember Callie from the summer of 2020? She was a kill pen rescue from Sexton’s. She was only 3 years old and doomed to slaughter as useless! She was only the second horse we helped out of slaughter since starting up BAFR. We only assisted in her transportation.

Since her rescue, her Owner has not only found out that she is a registered Thoroughbred but has worked with her and they participated in their first local barrel race this month! Look at Callie Mae go!!

The reason for this post you ask?!? We love showing our followers that even though people claim any horse sent to auction or a kill pen for the purpose of slaughter were sent there for a reason is completely untrue!

Callie had her whole life ahead of her and if it wasn’t for her mom, Mariah taking a chance on her she wouldn’t have been able to prove everyone wrong and that she in fact has a purpose in this life, and that’s to show everyone that kill pen horses can be anything you want them to be if given the same chance as a horse from an individual or breeder!

You never know your next prize winning horse for barrel racing could come from one, or your best babysitter horse! Callie Mae is working her way up the ladder in barrel racing but she has already proven herself to everyone that she is the best babysitter for her mom’s kids!

Just a reminder for those thinking of getting their first horse.

Horses aren’t cheap to maintain. This price break down is from Fall 2023 so costs have fluctuated a little. The picture of feed is what $200 gets you every two weeks. That’s not even for a refeed just regular maintenance for the 4 we have on property currently.

If you are thinking about getting a horse and want to discuss costs we would be happy to help you build a budget of what a horse would cost. So many horse owners get a horse thinking they are cheap to maintain an then the horse drops weight and gets in poor shape because it was more than they budgeted for and just couldn’t afford their care.

This is also another reason why even non-profit rescues have adoption fees to help cover the cost of the rehab on the horses we place up for adoption. A refeed cost even more to do.

We are happy to announce that Koda’s foster has become a FOSTER FAILUER!!!!! Koda has settled into their home like he’s been part of the family his whole life! The foster (also one of BAFR volunteers) and I were able to get him in on a grant with ChattaNeuter where he will be vetted and neutered on July 5th! Happy Tails Sweet Koda and welcome to the family nephew……..or brother? I’m not sure how that works as it’s my sister and bonus mom that are keeping him 😂

Either way we are happy he has found his people and his couch to sleep on!

Dream and Momma update!!! Dream is a year old!!!! They are both doing amazing and very loved by their humans!!!

Koda is still looking for his forever home! We are running out of time to find him a forever home! Our foster has an appointment for 7/2 to take him to McKamey Animal Shelter if we can’t find him a home.

We have had zero donations to help with his vetting and the foster has extended how long they can house him as long as they can.

Please help us find him a home before the 2nd!!! We don’t want to send him to the shelter that’s already full but have to do what’s fair to him. BAFR does not have the set up to house dogs at our facility and our fosters can only do so much in a pinch. Please help us help Koda and many others like him!

Hay is up for winter! Getting hay for the season is always so stressful and we love when the barns full and smells amazing!

We have been super busy with updates, Remi being sick, losing our senior dog Rebel, and getting hay hauled and stacked that we haven’t been on here much but that will change soon! Keep watching for more updates!!!

Koda is still searching for his furever home! He is crate trained and hasn’t had a single accident! He is playing with his foster brother as well and loves sitting on the couch with you! If you have room in your heart and home for Koda please reach out! His foster cannot hold him after the weekend and he will have to go to a local shelter that is already past capacity full. We are desperate to find this sweet boy a home of his own!

Horse Facts Friday comes to you this week with a current experience. Mr.Wilson came down with a fever Thursday evening and not eating. We’ve been in contact with our vet from the start an this afternoon he came down with diarrhea as well. Our vet came out and ran some test on him. He also took more blood and a fecal sample to send off to the lab for further testing. He’s currently being treated for a viral infection. He has pill antibiotics as well as IV administered antibiotics twice a day and Banamine as need twice a day. We are pushing soup/mash to keep him hydrated. he also has his fan and cold hosing as needed to help with the fever. Please keep Mr Wilson in your prayers! We want to push the urgency to know what is normal and what isn’t for your horse in the event something is coming on and can be caught early enough to prevent hospitalization or worse. We are praying hard that this was caught early enough to prevent the worse and that he starts feeling better soon. Zena spent a week here at the farm learning to walk on a leash, how to play with toys, how to be loved as well as crate training. She also went through her treatments for worms here before she was adopted to a wonderful family. Happy Tails for this sweet girl!
