DID YOU KNOW? - Manx Mice
Manx mice are mice bred selectively to have no tails. This, if done carefully and ethically, does NOT affect their health negatively. However whilst shortening the tail through genetic selection, you can end up with a show standard 'poor manx' or... Piggy Tail Manx! How friggin' cute is that?!

Honestly, how amazing is this litter? I am so so SO thrilled with the colourings of these beauties! I am taking expressions of interest now and WILL be contacting those who pop their names down! I am enamored with these fluffy cherubs!

So these babies are two litters being cared for by two mums, Daisy and Caramello, who are doing fantastically! These babies are chunky and finally starting to colour up. Looks like we have black pied, brindle, brindle pied, ginger variations and buff/grey variations.

In terms of tails, we have 4 manx!

TANKS A LOT!

Tanks can be fantastic enclosures for your mice.
We recommend a 3ft tank min. as length matters here too.

PROS:
🐁 Tanks allow you to use a deep substrate and the bigger the tank, the less ammonia builds up/takes longer to build up!
🐁Mice are naturally long distance travelers -they can wander the length of a busy tank!
🐁Placing water at one end and food at the other is great search and find enrichment.
🐁 Tanks are super easy to clean
🐁 Tanks are super easy to clean.
🐁 Massive area for them to explore.
🐁 Super customizable!
🐁 You can see their amazing tunneling an burrowing in real time or as an x-ray view through the glass!
🐁Cheap on marketplace (sometimes free if they aren't water tight - this doesn't matter for mice!)

CONS:
🐭 Often need to custom make a wire lid for ventilation.
🐭Bulky/heavy to move around
🐭 Hard to secure things to the side in like water bottles (we have a solution to this issue)
🐭 Concern of ammonia build up

What do you think? Tanks? Or No Tanks?
It is a controversial topic in the mouse keeping community and one that gets wildly differing opinions! There obviously are loads of variables, like 50 mice in a 2ft tank may not fare great but is it overall ethical to keep one lone mouse in a 6f tank?
I digress. I love my tank and so do our mice!

WE ENCOURAGE INSTINCTS FROM THE START!

Our mother mice are bred in a large tub, with everything they'd need to live there permanently but most importantly, happily! They have a billion hides, branches, ropes, levels, forage and more.
Once they are moved to their birthing tubs, things are quite down but we offer natural nesting materials such as course fibre. They make dense hives that I have to poke holes in to get these photos. The babies are huddled and warm under mum, inside their nesting box, dark and cosy, just as they would have it in nature. That's what I strive for. I do my best from the very start to let out mice be mice!

TUB ENCLOSURES ARE GREAT!
If you don't trust the ethics of marketed mouse cages or worry about tank ammonia, here is a happy middle!

PROS:
🐭Loads of ventilation
🐭Completely customisable
🐭Lightweight
🐭Easy access
🐭Easy to clean
🐭Can find massive tubs
🐭 Widely used by mouse owners internationally

CONS:
🐁 Finicky to build (we can do these by request!)
🐁 Zipties can be chewed
🐁 Wire can be a sharp hazard
🐁 Plastic can be chewed

19 baby mice born right on schedule yesterday! Both mums are doing fabulously, caring for these Beans together! These babies will no doubt end up chunky with ready milk on two taps!
I believe I've spotted 4 Manx in the bunch!

Hey guys, Due to some sudden and hefty financial hardship, it is looking likely that our Rodentry will be closing its doors this year. While this is the absolute last thing I want to do, we have already put ourselves last and stretched every coin we have over the last few months. After many vet bills related and unrelated to our Rats, we are struggling to keep a roof over our heads now and do not want to end up neglecting our rodents.

I will keep you all updated as things progress but as this is all unknown territory, I am not sure where we will end up here.

Sorry for the late update - we caught covid 😖

Ada had her beautiful litter of 5 chunky babies on the 13th of Dec, 2 females and 3 males.
Tokyo had 6 babies, however she wasn't on the ball with clearing their airways or fixing them up and so all perished unfortunately. Tokyo is on the mend and will not be bred again.
We still have some planned pairings coming up so fear not if you miss out this time!

Hi Everyone, Ella here!
As most of you know, I avoid having home ready babies in December as to also avoid them becoming easy presents over the holidays. However I do, when possible, try to breed for babies ready for homes in February the following year ( a bit away from the holidays). I have been INCREDIBLY quiet the last few months due to having my own child and managing that as well as retiring old girls and waiting for the new ones to meet the weight requirements for breeding. It can all take time and as much as I do love our babies, it's not best to pump out litters just because.

Well, patience has prevailed and I currently have TWO first time mums on baby watch over the next 72 hours! I will announce the births when they happen numbers may fluctuate though, you know how brutal nature can be and sometimes we can't control that. The babies from these litters should be ready for homes come Feb 2023 should all go well and they are happy and healthy!

NOW THE IMPORTANT PART: If you are hoping to snag some cuties in the new year, please know we will be prioritizing those on our waitlist - if you were previously on the waitlist, please submit a new one so we know you are actively interested!

Being on the waitlist however does not guarantee that you will get rats as obviously there are only so many to go around. You will be bumped up for the next litter though! You will also need to provide an adoption application before you can take babies home and an application also doesn't guarantee rats from us, we will work with you to meet our requirements if you are a new owner so we can approve you so don't be shy, just open to learning!

Little Beans Rodentry Tasmania UPDATE

We are back in business as we have now got a ridiculously lush range of new breeding stock that will be ready for next years litters!

We should have one or two litters born over January and ready for homes in Feb if all of our plans align - we do this so that we don't encourage Christmas pets and move homing away from holidays!

All in all, very exciting times ahead!
