Swallows [1] (lat. Hirundinidae) is a species-rich family of passerines. Swallows are characterized by the ability to get food in the air, they are able to catch insects on the fly. Swallows have a slender, streamlined body build and long, narrow wings. The beak is short and opens quite wide. The legs are quite small, most species have long tails. Swallows are migratory birds.
Two subfamilies can be distinguished in the family: Pseudochelidoninae, consisting of a single genus of river swallows (Pseudochelidon), and Hirundininae, which includes all other genera
