BEAT THE HEAT!

During these hot summer months, we need to pay extra attention to our pets. Like humans, they also can suffer from heat related illnesses.

Some essential tips for caring for your pets in the heat:

1. Provide ample water- Hydration is key in hot weather so make sure they always have access to water.

2. Avoid excessive exercise- Go for shorter walks or play sessions, try to go during the early mornings or late evenings when temperatures are cooler.

3. Protect their paws- If the walkways are too hot for you then they are too hot for your pets. Again, go for walks in the early mornings or late evenings when the walkways are cooler. You an also purchase booties to protect their paws.

4. Never leave your pet in a parked car- Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise quickly, even with the windows cracked. On a hot day, temperatures can reach life threatening levels within minutes.

5. Create a cool environment- Make sure your pet has access to shade if outdoors or keep them indoors, in the air-conditioned room with you and catch up on some movies!!

Neutering your dog has a number of important benefits. It can help reduce aggressive behavior, reduce the risk of certain types of cancer, reduce the risk of testicular tumors and prostate problems, and reduce the risk of your pet roaming and possibly getting injured or lost.

Trimming your pup's nails is an important grooming task that helps them stay happy and healthy. Keeping your pup's nails short prevents them from snagging on carpets, becoming ingrown, and can even help prevent infection. Get your pup comfortable with nail trimming now and make sure their paws stay in tip-top shape! .

Going to the beach with your dog?

Provide your dog with shade and plenty of chances to rest. You might also limit your beach visits to early or late in the day when the sun isn't as strong. Apply sunscreen to your dog. Dogs can suffer from sunburn, so use a pet-safe sunscreen on your dog's nose, ears, and any other areas with sparse fur.

21/11/2022

One of the most common cat diabetes symptoms is frequent urination:

-Excessive thirst. A cat that urinates more often will be thirstier and spend more time at the water bowl.
-Increased appetite.
-Unexpected weight loss. If your cat has one or more of these key symptoms, it is time to schedule your next vet visit and raise your concerns. Feline diabetes is not something you can diagnose yourself, as many of these symptoms may also be signs of other ailments. Clinical signs plus a full physical examination, blood work, and urinalysis will probably all be needed in order to make a confirmed diagnosis.

Even if your dog is considered senior, you'll still want to give them at least 30 minutes of daily exercise. Because of their age, exercise might need to become shorter but it's still necessary to make sure they're getting the required stimulation. Choose low-impact activities. Go on walks, not runs.
