Hey guys, we will be at agrifeed from 1-3, this is a really big part of the fundraiser because it’s our last day of the month, which makes it the last day to collect fundraiser money. Skillet update! He went back in to see the vet for his one week post op checkup, and he is doing great!

Hi everyone! Emalees mom here. I would love to stress the importance of regular vet care in guinea pigs. This is skillet, formally cedar, that my oldest daughter, Anna McMahan, adopted from KGPR. He was neutered earlier this summer, and has been doing great. During a normal play time with him, Anna found that he had a swelling in the area of his neuter. We took him in to see his vet the next morning (yesterday). Skillet ended up having emergency surgery, and during the exploration of the swelling, his vet removed three abscess pockets. We are not sure what caused it, it could have been a reaction to the suture material used during the neuter, or may have been caused by complications of a large hernia that was also found and corrected during the surgery. We have only had skillet for a couple of months and could not imagine our home without him. He is doing well now. Eating and drinking and taking his meds, just like the doctor ordered. But without hands on piggy care, fast acting veterinary care, and knowledgeable vets, skillet may not be here today. The abscess could have burst at any time, ending his sweet life. That is one of the reasons we are working so hard to raise money for KGPR. With so many piggies in their care, issues will arise. Vets will be needed. Sometimes the money is not there to take care of these things. We want to make sure that we help to do our part to insure that they are. Please say a little prayer for skillet and his recovery, and if you have an extra dollar or two, please think about donating it to emalees birthday fundraiser. Thank you.

When I went to meet with Peggy Barron about doing this fundraiser for my birthday, they had a total of 36 piggy’s at the rescue. They are up to 75 now! Won’t you please find it in your heart to donate, look into fostering, or think about adding a new bundle of piggy joy to your home?

Did you know that there is a more active time of year for GP rescues? Spring and summer are the busiest times because of families going on vacation, moving, and children going off for college. All reasons that families give up their GP.

The Knoxville Guinea Pig Rescue has 8 foster families currently, however they are always looking for new piggy lovers to help.

The Knoxville Guinea Pig Rescue does not adopt out GP’s that have reached 3 years of age. Those piggies are concitered senior, and live the remainder of their life at the rescue.

The Knoxville Guinea Pig Rescue receives many special needs guinea pigs each year, including piggies that are blind, have cancer, have skin conditions, have loss of limbs, and other needs. Those GP take lots of extra funds and time for the rescue.

The average cost to rescue, feed, vet, house, and rehome a GP is 150-500 dollars, depending on the condition of the GP and the time in rescue.

The main cost of care for piggies in rescue is food! Piggies have to have a variety of fruits and veggies daily, and hay and pelleted food at all times! Can you imagine the food bill of a piggy rescue? Please help me to help the piggies!

Ok peeps!!! We have finally gotten the model shirts made!! My mom and sister and I will Be making these shirts that you can get for a $15 donation (2xl and 3xl $3 more)!!!
