FACTS ABOUT BOER and NUBIAN GOATS.

The Boer or Boerbok is a South African breed of meat goat. It was selectively bred in the Eastern Cape from about 1920 for meat qualities and for the ability to survive by grazing on the thorn veldt of that region. It has been exported to many countries, and has been used to improve the meat qualities of other breeds.

FACTS ABOUT NIGERIAN DWARF and PYGMY GOATS.

The Nigerian Dwarf is an American
breed of dwarf goat. Like the American Pygmy Goat, it derives from the West African Dwarf group of breeds of West Africa.

Height: Male: 19–23.5 inches (48–60 cm); Female: 17–22.5 inches (43–57 cm)

Use: milk; meat; show; companion animals
Horn status: horned or hornless
Wool color: any color.

REPRODUCTION AND LIFESPAN

Males reach sexual maturity at only 4 months of age, while females aren't fully mature until 8 months. With a gestation period of 5 months, they breed all year round and produce 2 to 4 young. On average, these goats live between 15 and 20 years.

FEEDING:

As with all goats, the most important feature of their diet should be free-choice, good quality hay or forage.

GESTATION:

The gestation period of the goat is usually quoted as being about 150 days with a normal range from 143 to 157 days.

Small goats, such as the Nigerian Dwarf and pygmy breeds, tend to have an average of three kids for each pregnancy. Most small goats average triplets during a pregnancy, but they are also capable of birthing four and even up to six kids for each pregnancy.
