Well I debated whether or not to post. But I try to be honest about the trials of being a rabbit breeder. With ups there are downs. And we have been in the mids of a coccidiosis out break in my out door barn. It’s where I house my Satin Angora grow outs and a few other rabbit, mostly bucks that like to spray. So fare I have been able to contain the spread to just 3 cages. Unfortunately it is my 3 grow out baby cages. With the odd way it has spread. Starting in the middle cage and moving up, one cage then jumping to another cage in my quarantine section, then back to the babies. Even with everything being disinfected and full protective precautions being taken. I’m pretty sure the out break and spread is due to the mice. who are attracted to the sunflower seeds I put in the rabbit food. All animals are being treated with medicine whether they’re showing symptoms or not. Extra traps and rodent measures are being taken. So hopefully we are getting closer to the end. No new cages have been infected as far as I can tell.
The diarrhea hasn’t been the main killer of the babies. In fact we have managed to stop it with in a couple doses of meds. The main killer has been the secondary bloating. I think we have a handle on that part too🤞🏼.
Sadly we have lost most of SusieQ’s litter. They were the first to be infected. Only 2 remain out of 5. One not pictured died, the 2 left are doing really well. They are back to having a healthy normal appetite, and active level. So that gives me hope.
We have lost one baby from Brandy’s litter with 2 others infected. One I’m on the fence with, whether she will make it or not. The other is looking much better and acting almost normal.
And we lost one REW baby from Queen Anne’s litter. But so fare the rest of her babies are acting normal, and not showing signs of infection.
We are keeping up cleaning and disinfecting everything. Hopefully we are close to the end of this nightmare.
