Ah, National Puppy Day, a time to reminisce on the joy and innocence of our furry, four-legged friends. I remember the days of coming home to a wagging tail and a wet nose, ready to play and cuddle without a care in the world. There's something so heartwarming about the unconditional love and pure happiness that puppies bring into our lives. From their clumsy antics to their adorable puppy eyes, they have a way of melting our hearts and leaving a lasting impression. Today, let's celebrate the precious memories and the endless joy that puppies bring. ❤️

~ TIP TUESDAY ~

When making tasty treats for your furry friend, here are some things to consider...

The Flour: Some dogs are allergic to flour/wheat. If you want to make treats wheat free, you can use rice flour of coconut flour as a replacement. These alternate flours will work but might change the consistency a bit.

The Peanut Butter: Some peanut butter brands include xylitol to cut the sugar in their peanut butter. DO NOT use any peanut butter containing xylitol as it is toxic to dogs. Just check the ingredients or go for a natural peanut butter.

Honey: While honey contains many vitamins and antioxidants that are great for your dog, there are a couple of things to note. Avoid giving honey to immunocompromised dogs and dogs under 1 year old as it may contain bacteria that can be dangerous for them. Honey also should not be given to diabetic or obese dogs as it is high in sugar and calories.

January 2nd marks National Pet Travel Safety Day, a time to remember to keep your dog safe every time you get in the car. Whether bringing your pup with you on vacation, going out on the town, or heading to the vet for a routine check-up, it’s important to make each and every trip a safe one! Here are some travel safety tips to think about next time your dog gets in the car, on boat, or even a plane:

🚘 Keep pets properly restrained

🌡Don't leave pets in the car on warm days

🏠 Make lodging or pet sitting arrangement ahead of time

📃 Get health certificate/vaccine records if needed

❓️ Make sure your dog has identification tags or a microchip (preferably both!)

🚽 Take frequent breaks

💧 Bring plenty of water and food supplies

🏥 Know how to find a vet in case of an emergency

IT'S THE FINAL GIVEAWAY! Walks of Life Training North's 12 Days of Giveaways Day 12 is here! Let's be honest, as Christmas quickly approaches all we are looking for is a little bit of relaxation!

Day 12: RELAXATION Training Session!
Relaxation protocols will help your dog navigate many aspects of life, especially when what we want goes against their instincts. These protocols will teach your dog to relax and stay in place when you move about the house, when a visitor arrives (ahem...holiday company?), and when you take your dog out in public.

It is Day 11 of Walks of Life Training North's 11 Days of DOG TRAINING Giveaways! Do you dream of your dog and kids being best buds? Let us help!

Day 11: DOGS & KIDS Training Session!
Many dogs are apprehensive around kids, so it’s important to train your dog how to behave around children while building plenty of positive associations. And you need to be sure to teach the children too! Only when both parties understand each other can they build a strong bond.

It is Day 10 of Walks of Life Training North's 12 Days of DOG TRAINING Giveaways! Does your dog struggle with jumping? This is the #1 most unwanted behavior that we get called to help with.

Day 10: JUMPING Training Session! Social dogs naturally jump up when they greet people. Most dogs are shorter than the people they are greeting, so jumping up brings them closer to face level. After all, when dogs meet other dogs, they are typically face to face, but dogs need to gaze upward to engage with a person.

It is Day 8 of Walks of Life Training North's 12 Days of DOG TRAINING Giveaways! Do you have a chewer or a barker? Maybe they do both! These are two of the top three unwanted behaviors we see (with the third being digging). While sometimes these coupd be bad habits that have developed, they are also very much instinctual behaviors.

Day 8: CHEWING & BARKING Training Session! Despite how frustrating bad dog behavior can be, there is always a healthy, long-term solution. Dogs chew, bark, and dig because of their natural instincts. These behaviors get out of hand when a different part of their life is out of balance. Excessive or inappropriate chewing, barking, and digging can typically be cured!

It is Day 7 of Walks of Life Training North's 12 Days of DOG TRAINING Giveaways! Today, we are talking about babies! You likely have a birthing plan for yourself...do you have a plan for your dog? It provides us comfort and relief when we know what to expect in various situations. This goes for our fur babies too! The more prepared they are for a BIG lifestyle change, the more successful they will be!

Day 7: EXPECTING FAMILY Training Session! Preparing ahead can decrease stress for ALL involved. Our program answers the most commonly asked questions pre and post baby. We can provide some insight on dog behavior to help you feel more confident and less stressed in the months and years to come!

It is Day 6 of Walks of Life Training North's 12 Days of DOG TRAINING Giveaways! We are officially halfway through our giveaways! There are so many health and social benefits associated with walking your dog, and we are here to help you experience them!

Day 6: LEASH WALKING Training Session! Leash walking provides a safe, consistent form of exercise that is beneficial to both dogs and humans. A dog trained to walk nicely on a leash receives a warmer welcome in public than an untrained dog. This allows you to take your dog into dog-friendly stores or other public spaces without worry!

It is Day 5 of Walks of Life Training North's 12 Days of DOG TRAINING Giveaways! Does your dog bolt, not respond to their name, or act like you don't even exist when called? Then one is for you!!!

Day 4: COMING WHEN CALLED Training Session! Learning to come when called is one of the most important skills your dog can acquire. But teaching a recall can be challenging, as dogs find so much of the world so interesting!
