At BISSELL, we’re so passionate about all things pet that we welcome our best friends to the office. On any given day, you walk through the halls of our headquarters and see a dozen or so dogs working alongside their owners. Hugo and his mom, BISSELL team member Liz, are included in that group.
Liz adopted Hugo after her mom, who worked at a veterinarian clinic, brought the Jack Russell-Terrier mix home back in 2015 when he was just a few months old. Someone found Hugo on the street all by himself. When Liz met Hugo, she knew there was something special about him.
Today, at the age of five, Hugo is a total pro at his job. His favorite work activities include going around the building to visit his fellow pooch friends, like Henry Huggins and Willow, and he’s highly proficient at adorably asking for a treat. Most of our team has treats right at their desks, and if they don’t, chances are there’s a jar in a nearby conference room. Once he heads back to mom’s desk, Hugo spends most of the day showing off his toys to anyone who stops by to visit him. Hugo’s favorite toy is his stuffed duck.
As much as he loves spending the day at his mom’s desk, Hugo also loves spending the day at the BISSELL Pet Spot. This special workplace was built with pet parents in mind. It has three workstations where Associates can plug in for the day and work remotely. It also has three private kennels, a dog washing sink, a meeting area, a fenced in outdoor area, and of course, plenty of treats!
Hugo gained some fame when we featured him and his adoption story on the package of our JetScrub Pet Carpet Cleaner. Stories like Hugo’s are important for us to share because they inspire so much of what we do at BISSELL. Our engineers are pet parents too, and they’re committed to creating innovative products that clean up pet messes faster and easier, so every home that wants to can experience the love of a pet. But it goes a step beyond that. When you buy our pet products, you can help us save pets like Hugo. Every purchase of a BISSELL product helps because BISSELL proudly supports BISSELL Pet Foundation and its mission to help save homeless pets. So, when you buy a BISSELL product, you help save lives, too.

Unfortunately, cats can't talk. So here are a few ways to tell if your cat is really happy.

Anyone who’s ever had a cat will agree: they’re funny creatures. One minute they’re rubbing up against you, the next they’re hiding in the closet. They love to snuggle, but only on their terms. And they seem to want the most attention when you’re running out the door. But that’s what mak...

Listen, you've probably been spending a bunch of time with your dog recently. What should you do if your pup starts feeling separation anxiety.

Is your dog disruptive or destructive when left alone? Do they urinate, defecate, bark, howl, chew, dig or try to escape every time you leave the house? Although these problems often indicate that a dog needs training, they can also be symptoms of distress. Separation anxiety is triggered when dogs....

Walking on a leash is essential for all dogs to learn. However, there is one common mistake most dog owners make when leash training their new dog. Most people think to start their leash-training process outside, where there are a lot of distractions. It’s actually best to start leash training in a distraction-free zone, like inside your home! Practicing in the house will produce the fastest and longest lasting results. Owners should practice with their dogs for about 5 minutes a day for a week before going outside. Remember to use positive reinforcement by rewarding your dog when he/she does not pull on the leash. Happy Training!

Depending on the cat, it may be worth considering adopting two! Cats are actually more social than some think. Cats are very smart animals and do get bored often. Having a companion ensures that your cat has someone to keep him company and entertained, even when you are away. Cats can also sharpen and guide each other. For example, if one cat is already trained to use the litter box, it won’t be long until the other one picks up on the behavior. Taking on two cats isn’t much more expensive than having one, as cats can share litter boxes, toys, and beds! Although not all cats require a companion, if your cat gets along with others, having two does have its benefits!

Jerri is a real go-getter kitty who loves to play in her window and listen to the birds chirping. She enjoys sleeping in her mom’s desk chair and on the dining room table, because that’s what it’s for, right? She was born completely blind, but that doesn’t stop her from seeing the beauty in the world. Jerri was rescued by her parents after her previous owners moved away and abandoned her. She is now a proud member of the Pets of BISSELL squad. Bless your sweet kitty heart, Jerri!

Although black cats have a reputation for being bad luck, there are tons of reasons why black cats make a wonderful addition to your family. The association between bad luck and black cats dates all the way back to the Middle Ages, when black cats somehow became associated with the devil. However, it’s unclear how this belief began, and since then there has been no evidence to suggest that these cats will bring their owners harm or bad luck.

Plus, in places like Britain, Japan, and Scotland, if you dream of a black cat—or a black cat does cross your path—it’s believed to be good luck! So don’t pass up on these sleek and sophisticated beauties when looking for a cat to adopt.

One pet that’s celebrated at our office is sweet Tsuki. The adorable Goldendoodle started coming to work with her dad, BISSELL Associate Jeff, when she was just a year old. Now, at almost three years old, Tsuki is considered a regular in the halls of BISSELL headquarters.
Tsuki gets her coloring from the Poodle in her, but she’s also very much a Golden Retriever – even her favorite toys are tennis balls. She also – like pretty much every dog – loves ice cream and peanut butter. Her dad describes her as fluffy, mischievous and sweet. Her mischievous streak comes out every so often when she gets her paws on a test report. Since her dad works as a Test Engineer, she’s seen her fair share of these reports, but Tsuki is not interested in what’s on the report, she just likes to take a few bites out of it. It’s also easy to see her sweet temperament whenever she meets a new friend. Tsuki is quick to show her new friends love by shaking their hand or giving them high fives.
And when she’s not shaking hands with Associates, Tsuki is usually laying just outside of her dad’s cubicle, playing gatekeeper to the area. That is just one of Tsuki’s favorite spots at BISSELL. She also loves spending time at our front reception area. We can’t be 100% sure why she loves it so much, but if we had to guess, it would probably be a tie between making new friends with everyone who walks in and the unlimited treats!
As a pet-friendly workplace, it only seems right to have a jar of treats to greet pets as they start their day at BISSELL (and mom or dad can get a coffee from our barista down the hall!). And it doesn’t take pups long to learn that if they’re good, they’ll get a treat each time they walk in the door. Those treats are just one of the many perks that keeps dogs coming back to work each day. At BISSELL, a majority of our meeting rooms are also pet-friendly, so pets can stick with their mom or dad all day.
Pairs like Tskui and Jeff are just one of the dozens of pet families that take advantage of our pet-friendly workplace. They are the reason we have such a passion for pets and the reason pets inspire everything we do. It’s also why every purchase of a BISSELL product helps save pets. BISSELL is proud to support BISSELL Pet Foundation® and its mission to help save homeless pets. When you buy a BISSELL product, you help save pets, too. We’re proud to design products that help make pet messes, odors and homelessness disappear.

Rescue Road is a BISSELL program that helps with the severe overpopulation problem of homeless dogs and cats in the South. There are so many rural areas facing the same problem. And there are simply no resources and spay/neuter is expensive in many communities so BISSELL stepped in to change that. Watch this video to see our first Rescue Road mission and please consider giving a gift to help us continue making a difference for shelters in need.
