This breaks my heart to announce but morally I have no other choice, I’d like to start this post by delving right into why I’m closing down; after several recent conversations between myself & my supplier as well as a long time entomologist who was very open and honest with me it’s come to my realisation that what is classed as ethical to one person isn’t always ethical in another’s eyes. I’ve been incredibly naive in thinking ethically sourced on suppliers pages meant the previous bugs got to live out their lives but unfortunately their lifespans are interrupted and they are euthanised via the freezing method (there are benefits to insect farming such as providing work for rural countries and by having the insect farming process they are able to avoid rainforests being dug up) but this horrifies me and I cannot continue to be a part of a chain that ends the lives of these incredible tiny creatures wether there’s environmental benefits or not.
I am so unbelievably sorry to anyone who is as distressed about this as myself or if anyone feels deceived, i truly would never have gotten into this industry if I was aware of this process and feel so stupid for not having done more research over the years.I have loads of insects left which I will be setting and framing still so my Etsy store will still be open until all stock is listed & sold, all insect products will be discounted & going forward any sales made from insect frames I’ll be donating 10% towards charities & sanctuaries protecting and raising insects (I don’t know any specific charities as of yet but if anybody has any suggestion do let me know) Thank you so much to everybody who has supported me over the years by shopping at cryptofbugs, sharing and liking my posts it truly has meant the world to me and you made my dream of running a small creative business possible, I’m so sad to close down under these terms. I may in the future look into continuing my taxidermy venture with small animals ensuring to do an extensive amount of research before anything. I don’t have enough words to say everything that I’d like to say other than thank you to everyone who has supported me & I am so sorry
