Hi there, Dis here!

I am dropping in to let everyone know about the exciting offer Paws, Claws & Whiskers is doing! Did you know they donate 10% of their rat boarding earnings to the rescue each month?! BUT even more exciting, did you know they also offer any RRH vollies a 10% discount off their total price? EVEN COOLER!!

Me and my brother stayed with them just a few weeks ago and had the best time! I got snuggles, scritches, snackies, roamies in the dedicated space with lots of things to explore and we even got to relax in the nice air-conditioned room on the really hot days!

Only complaint is they kept taking pictures of me, as you can see here, I was rudley woken from my nap! But I guess my mumther appreciated the daily updates she got.

If you’d like to book in with PCW, reach out to them and they can assist! You can find out more and contact them here: pcwpetservices.square.site!

RRH appreciates the support of our , just like Paws, Claws & Whiskers!

Hey there, here!

I wanted to tell you all about my recent stay with Paws, Claws & Whiskers. The humans there were so fun and they has this big room for us to run around in and lots of things for us to climb on and play in.

My most favourite was the shelf that I climbed and then I tried to steal some meds that I found but they were rudely stolen from me! Apart from that - me and my siblings had the best time getting snuggles, scritches, treats and best of all, free roam times!

If you’re going away and want your ratties taken care of by these amazing humans, you should contact them!

Anyway, it’s time for Hop and I to cause chaos, over and out!

- Thanks to Paws Claws and Whiskers, RRH

- Pea fishing!
- Provide frozen water or tins for them to lay against
- Making sure they have adequate airflow

Heat stroke in dogs can be life threatening, which is why it is so important to know the causes and signs of heat stroke so you can act quickly!

Signs & symptoms:
- Excessive panting
- Difficulty breathing
- Drooling
- Change in gum colour
- Vomiting/diarrhoea
- High heart rate
- Dizziness/struggling to walk in a straight line
- Seizures
- Lethargy
- Collapse/unconsciousness

What causes heat stroke?
There are a few things that can cause heat strokes in dogs, these are most commonly due to environmental factors or pre-existing medical conditions.

- Environmental factors:
- High temperature/high humidity
- Poor airflow
- No access to shade
- No access to water
- Excessive exercise
- Left in enclosed garages, cars, homes, etc.

How to treat your dog for heat stroke:
- Move your dog to a cool environment – shaded area, under a fan, etc.
- Gradually try to lower your dog’s temperature by wetting them
- Offer them water
- Seek vet advice immediately! Even if your dog seems to be recovering, it is still important for them to see a vet!

Did you know we partner with Rachie's Ratirement Home?

As rat lovers and volunteers of the rescue, we know just how vital donations are to keep the rescue running. Donations like these go towards many things such as general care and necessities for the rats, supplies, keeping the first aid kit stocked, and vet care for the rat residents.

If you book your rats in for boarding with us, we will donate 10% of the boarding fees to the rescue so they can continue to .

Let’s talk dog separation anxiety!

Separation anxiety in dogs is triggered by separation from their owners, the dogs then become upset and panic. These behavioural responses can include destructiveness, excessive barking/howling, toileting in the house, digging and attempting to escape.

There are many things you can do to help reduce this anxiety when you leave which include changing your leaving and returning routines and decreasing anxiety associated with being left alone.

1. Try to ignore your dog for 30 minutes before you leave, while this may sound mean, this will help your dog to be less anxious when you do depart.
2. When you return home, you should wait until your dog is calm and quiet before greeting them
3. Randomly throughout the day pick up your keys, put your shoes on, pack a bag, turn on the hairdryer, anything your dog associates with you leaving. This will break the routine your dog sees and becomes anxious from, it will teach them that these cues now no longer mean anything and will no longer predict your departure.
4. Teach your dog that it is ok to be alone. Turn that anxiety into a pleasant response, give them something to do, an enrichment toy filled with treats is a great one for this. By giving your dog something to do, you are distracting them from your departure but also reinforcing that pleasant response to being alone.
5. Keep your dog exercised and mentally stimulated. A bored dog is more likely to become anxious.
6. If in doubt, seek advice from your vet!
