Save Ely the Elephant We are a group who are advocating on behalf of Ely, an African elephant who lives at the The Aragon Zoo in Mexico City.

We are working to secure her release and transfer to a sanctuary, where she can begin to heal, physically and mentally.

Un tribunal federal otorgó un amparo a la elefanta Ely, contra actos de autoridades del Zoológico de San Juan de Aragón. El tribunal determinó que el amparo era procedente por interés legítimo, destacando la importancia de la protección del medio ambiente y de los animales como seres sintientes. La elefanta africana Ely padece artritis en la pata delantera derecha derivado del esfuerzo al que era sometida en sus espectáculos para trepar a las plataformas y encima de otros elefantes. Además, presenta trastornos psicológicos por siete años de aislamiento además hiperqueratosis, un trastorno caracterizado por engrosamiento de la capa externa de la piel. La sentencia reconoce el derecho de los animales a una vida libre de maltrato y ordena emitir las medidas necesarias para prevenir afectaciones en la salud física o mental de la elefanta. Así como establecer un programa integral de alimentación y cuidados médicos que garanticen que Ely tenga condiciones de vida adecuada. Entre varias medidas importantes ordena se realice un etograma para identificar el repertorio conductual de Ely. Asimismo, se fija inspeccionar el cumplimiento de las medidas para garantizar el bienestar del paquidermo.

Para su cumplimiento, se deberá notificar de dicha resolución a las autoridades responsables, como son la Sedema; al director general de Zoológicos y Conservación de Fauna Silvestre, de la Secretaría del Medio Ambiente, así como al director del Zoológico de San Juan de Aragón.

Estamos muy felices por Ely y agradecemos a los activistas que defendieron fielmente sus derechos, a las organizaciones y por todo su activismo legal , académico y en las calles por Ely, así como a Marcos Mario Czacki Halkin por interponer el amparo.

Positive changes - the Hadi Shrine Circus, Evansville Indiana, will be retiring the elephant segment of their circus!

BREAKING: The Hadi Shrine Circus | Evansville, Indiana has announced that the elephant segment of the circus is retiring. 🐘

The 90th Annual Hadi Shrine Circus starts on Thanksgiving Day at the Ford Center in downtown Evansville, Indiana. The circus is currently booking acts for this years event. Stay tuned for more details!
