My favorite teammate 💛

It was so interesting watching Timber run with other people last weekend. It was his first time competing with anybody but me, I never get to just watch him!

My friends did a wonderful job running him - it’s hard running a new dog especially when he’s much taller than what each friend runs! I feel like it really emphasized just how much goes into agility.

I don’t think anybody considers agility easy, but there really are SO many little things that go into a run! It’s not as simple as just where to do which type of cross and hit the obstacles in order. The speed, the timing, the obstacle commitment, the distance you can or can’t get, the verbals, the start line routine, the confidence required, the handling techniques, etc - SO MANY THINGS!

My friends did really great, even getting one clean run! But I do think it helped my imposter syndrome a bit seeing that nobody can quite run your own dog like you can. Sometimes it can feel like a dog just knows what to do, but you and your dog really make a team - counting on each other for every run! That’s what makes agility so special and fun. I can’t wait to get back to running my boy 💛

Timber wanted to give everybody who feeds raw a little reminder - don’t forget to take your food out tonight to defrost 🫡

I was always worried before starting him on raw that I would be constantly forgetting to defrost his food. But it’s honestly so easy to get Tucker’s Raw ready for each day! Before he gets dinner, a new patty gets pulled from the dog freezer to sit in the fridge overnight and that’s it. It’s ready to go by breakfast. Easy peasy!

So go get your patties ready for tomorrow!

Happy 5th birthday to the best golden boy! 🥳

I am forever obsessed with this boy. He’s got such a joy for life and makes me laugh every day with his antics. He’s probably smarter than I am and is always ready to learn new things. He somehow excels in everything he does and has such great drive to work. He can go from retrieving a duck to rocking a rally course to speeding through an agility run to sniffing out rats in a barn to cuddling on the couch to relaxing at a restaurant. He’s just the perfect golden boy 🥺

My most perfect dog sport partner who I finished an agility run with even on a broken foot 😅 He’s been having a pretty boring month so far while I recover, but he finally gets to do some agility with friends this weekend to celebrate his birthday! It’ll be a bit longer before I can run with him again, but it’ll be enough for me to just see him happy and having fun doing one of his favorite things!

I have a feeling this will be his best year yet - we have a lot of big plans! Over the last year he’s had so many accomplishments and I couldn’t be more proud of him. He’s a fantastic sport dog but also just the best companion and basically my best friend I take everywhere I can, I couldn’t imagine life without him. I can’t wait for all our next adventures together 💛

When we were doing this powder photoshoot the photographer said she hoped I wasn’t looking for serious, intense shots that some people get because that’s not what Timber was giving. This is fully what I expected 😂

Every now and then, he gives a serious focused pose. But underneath all the drive and intensity to work, he’s just a goofy boy at heart. Just loving life and happy to be included in whatever we’re doing!

Who doesn’t love the infectious joy of a golden retriever?

Me: breaks my foot 3 obstacles in. Hobbles around to finish our course regardless

Timber: absolutely nailing his dog walk hit at the end despite me being crazy far behind

Worth it 👌🏼

Honestly it just never crossed my mind to stop running our course 😅 oh well!

Surgery is complete and we’re finally on the road to recovery after waiting in limbo for a bit 🙌🏼 wanting to get back to agility (and I guess life and my job) as soon as possible so fingers crossed for speedy, uncomplicated healing ❤️‍🩹

Timber couldn’t decide between duck and salmon, so it’s up to me to pick the next protein rotation!

Duck is a nice cooling protein for the hot summer days coming up. Salmon is a neutral protein but it’s always nice to add fish into his diet!

Timber is a forever hot boy 🥵 so I try my best to remember to choose cooling or neutral protein options when we restock our favorite ! Luckily for Timber, they include pork in a lot of their diets which is also a cooling food👌🏼

Timber’s favorite is usually anything duck 🦆 does your dog have a favorite or do they just inhale anything in front of them?

Looks like it’ll be a while before we get to do our favorite thing again 🥲

Yesterday, right in the begging of our master standard run around obstacle 3, I felt a “pop” in my foot and immediate pain. Naturally, I finished running our course 😅 Timber did a fantastic job with me hobbling around, just one dropped bar. Then I immediately knew it was time to call my mom to come pick us up because I wouldn’t even be able to drive home 😬

One ER trip later and it turns out I broke my fifth metatarsal 🙃 waiting for an orthopedic specialist appointment but for now I can’t put any weight on my foot. To be determined if I need surgery or how long thins recovery will take.

So everybody send me some speedy healing vibes!! I guess I was just overdue for my first broken bone. It really threw a wrench in a lot of upcoming trial plans though, let alone numerous other appointments and work 🙃😅🥲

If they’re not having fun then what’s the point?

Timber always has a happy face and wagging tail in the activities we do, it’s one of the biggest reasons we do them!

It’s really just not that serious, why get frustrated and not enjoy ourselves 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s just jumping over plastic bars, spinning in circles, running around barns, and chasing plastic bags.

We did a few scent work trials a few years ago, got two novice titles, but then I realized Timber just wasn’t having fun. He could be convinced to do it and he knew how, but he didn’t really want to 😅 so we stopped! There’s so many other things he loves to do, why keep pushing one of the few things he didn’t enjoy.

I’m lucky to have one of the best, happiest teammates in everything we do! Every day that I get to see this happy golden face is a gift 💛
