Roxie - ADOPTED!

Shepherd Mix - Female - 25 lbs - 4 months (approx.)

Location: Peterborough, ON

Sponsored for the great rescue I have, Aria and the great work done by the volunteers.

From way up north this little girl has found her foster home in Peterborough to be quite enjoyable. She is used to all the snow so felt right at home here. Roxie currently lives with two dogs, two cats and an 11 year old child. She came in very nervous and easily excited but over the course of a week has really shown she can relax and slow down.

Roxie shows she is eager to learn but is still learning quite a few things, she is just a young pup and not used to this whole house living but you can tell she will continue to catch on quickly and likes the comfort of a home. Being a puppy she is still learning not to jump up or nip don’t worry though with continued corrections and training she will catch on! She is learning to use bells to go outside, so she is not fully house trained. She is a master at sit and can do down. Currently working on paw, stay, and come . She is food and phrase motivated which is a plus!!

Roxie is learning that her crate isn’t so bad, she goes in with prompting and whines a bit at the beginning but will sleep all night (what more could you ask for?!). She stays in it during the day when her humans are at work. It isn’t her favourite thing and lets them know as soon as they get home she wants to come out and play! However she has never left a mess in her crate!

Roxie loves her walks especially when she is in an open field and can bounce through the snow and play with her fur foster siblings but trying to catch on to this whole walking on a leash thing.

Roxie LOVES to chew on her bones and her all time favourite is a hoof!! Fetch and Tug, does anyone want to play?! Roxie loves to play with a long squeaky toy, she will run around showing off her prize! She loves her fur friends all the same and happily plays with anyone that wants to play. She isn’t a very independent puppy yet and always likes to have her pack close by.

By no means is this puppy a couch potato, she loves her walks, play and training. If all her needs are met she would be happy to lay down and chew her bone or just chill at your feet.

Her ideal home would be one that wants to keep up with training, a puppy class would be great! She is looking for someone to walk her on one long walk or a couple short walks each day. She does love her fur friends but could handle being on her own. Would recommend older kids since still has that puppy energy and nipping.

This beauty, COPITO , still has not found her forever home. Copito is so sweet and loving. She just needs a home with another dog to continue to give her confidence and friendship, plus someone who doesn’t leave her alone all day. 8 month old Copito is wonderful and will make a great addition to her new family.

Christopher and Robin - ADOPTED!

Husky Mix - Male - 10 lbs - 9 weeks (approx.)

Location: East Gwillimbury

Sponsored in memory of Chandra

Christopher and Robin are the perfect mix of calm and playful. They are comfortable in new situations. They are easy-going and social, and play well with our medium dogs and each other. They would do best with a large fenced yard.

Christopher is more submissive and Robin is more dominant.

These puppies came from the reserves in northern Ontario near James Bay, so up to this point have had very little training and everything is brand new to them. We will spend time learning house training and crate training, as well as walking on a leash. They have been sleeping in their crate overnight without much noise, however once they are separated they will need retraining.

They will have their first vaccinations mid December.

As typical with puppies, they don’t like to be alone. When we leave the house or room or crate them during the day the puppies exhibit signs of barking and whining for us to come back before settling down nicely. As they are puppies they mouth everything! We are teaching them to only chew their toys.

They love to play with toys and eat. They are high energy puppies. They need lots of love and attention and will require training. It is highly recommended that they attend puppy classes to learn basic skills and socializing. Untrained large breed puppies, become a handful later one if they do not know what is expected of them both in behavior and social skills with other dogs.

Karma - ADOPTED!

Anatolian Shepherd - Female - 70 lbs - 2 yrs (approx.)

Location: Owen Sound, ON

Sponsored by Jason, in memory of his beloved dog, also named Karma.

Meet Krama! A beautiful 2 year old Anatolian Shepherd. If you are not familiar with Karma’s breed or the attributes of livestock guardian breeds (LGD) please research further before submitting an application. LGDs are unlike other breeds of dogs and it’s important that Karma’s future home has an understanding and ideally experience with LGD breeds.

Karma is a stunning girl with a puppy-like exuberance which wins over everyone who meets her. When Karma came into foster care it was clear that previous to finding herself in the shelter, she had received very little structure or training. She demonstrated anxiety, had a very difficult time settling both inside and outside of the house and was reactivate to those outside of her foster family. Her foster family could see how much potential Karma had based on her willingness to please and eagerness to learn but they also knew she needed training beyond what they were able to offer her.

At the beginning of October Karma went to stay with Kyle Vivian from North Grey K9 for a 30 day board and train program. The progress she has made in her short time with Kyle has been incredible. Karma is now crate trained, house trained, has learned to calm herself in the house as well as in the presence of new people, has improved greatly on leash and has discovered that she loves, loves loves playing with other dogs! It’s been a joy to watch Karma progress over the last couple of months and to see her goofy and sweet personality start to shine through. During her time with Kyle, Karma has proven what was clear to her foster family. That she is a girl with endless potential in the right home and with the right leader. So much potential that she has recently begun helping as the “demo dog” in Kyles’s obedience classes and is often the dog he uses when working on socialization with his clients.

So, what does Karmas ideal home look like? As mentioned above an owner with LGD experience is preferred, but more important than that is an owner with a willingness to learn and who is interested in working closely with Kyle during Karmas first few weeks in their new home. We would ideally be looking for a rural environment, simply due to Karmas breed she does best with space to run. A home with kids over 10, Karma has met young kids in the past and was incredible with them (not surprising for an LGD) but due to her size and the commitment needed to her training a home with kids over 10 would be ideal. A home with another dog for her to play with would make her incredibly happy. Karma is deeply people focused making her a joy to both train and have as a companion. And although she strongly feels she would make an excellent lap dog, Karma will require an owner that is able to provide her with the structure and boundaries she needs to thrive. We know the right home is out there for Karma and we look forward to working with them to help set Karma up for a life of success.
