Resilience is creating capacity.

Capacity to tolerate stress and difficulty.
Capacity to learn and practice bouncing back.

Capacity is the ability to deal with something.

One thing veterinary care workers are lacking right now is capacity.
Too much stress.
Too much overwhelm.
Too much disappointment.
Too much too much!

So how do you get more capacity?

Self-care and PRACTICE.
Increasing Well-being and creating awareness.
Feeling good and noticing when you don’t and getting curious.

Resilience for Veterinary Professionals is a course I designed specifically to help give you some space to discover what you need and what’s important to you. Does this sound like something you could use right now?

Course starts March 26th

Check out the link in our bio for more info.

What helps you be able to bounce back from difficulty and drama?🏓

23/03/2022

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes, courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says,
‘I’ll try again tomorrow’.

23/03/2022

Resilience for Veterinary Professionals starts March 26th.
I hope to see you there!

To care for yourself, you also need to care ABOUT yourself.

We care for our animals and our animal patients because we care ABOUT them. We care about what they want and what they need. We care about how they feel.

What if we thought of ourselves as one of our favorite pets? 😸
How would you care for the animal friend in you? 🦧
If you needed to go outside, would you let yourself out? 🚽
If you were hungry, would you feed you? 🥞
If you wanted to go for a walk, would you throw on your shoes and happily head out the door? 🥾
If you wanted to cuddle, would you stop and snuggle in? 🤗

What’s in the way of you caring for the animal friend in you? And can you set that down just for today? 🌝

If you’re feeling it, share an emoji in the comments that represents your inner being animal friend. I’d love to see them!

Of course, restoration outside of work is important (vital actually!). I also wonder what about restoration DURING WORK???

I’m not talking about the unrealistic (yet fabulous) idea of a mid day bubble bath or hand massage while you call clients.

I’m talking about things you really CAN do.

🚽Go p*e (when you FIRST notice you have to go).
💦Drink water (often).
🍿Get a snack (when you’re hungry).
🦑Stretch (I see you crunched up at that computer).
🫁Pause and take 3 deep breaths.

What is one small thing you deny yourself during your workday that you could actually incorporate?

Do THAT. ✔️

Self care is also about taking care of your future self.

We all know that choosing to go to bed early (or on time) can help our future selves wake up easier the next day.

We make choices all of the time that can be gifts 💝 or headaches 🤕 to our future selves.

Let’s practice some self care. What kind thing could you do today as a gift to your future self?

Pet owners, where you at? You guys know just how much of a difference in a good vet can make. We trust our vets to care for our CHILDREN . That is no light task! Pause.
Consider yourself.
What do you need right now?
Repeat over and over and over again.

Especially when you are:
• Busy 🌪
• Facing problems 🦖
• Overwhelmed 🧨
• Time pressured ⏱
• Exhausted 🧟‍♀️

Self care isn’t just a big gesture or one time act, it’s the small everyday moments of tending to your needs. Think of it as a way of being that reflects personal kindness.

It was my first year in practice and I dreamed of being a great doctor to patients, a great champion for staff, and a great investment for

Exploring Rest this month has brought a constant stream of articles, podcasts and books across my feed. Funny how that happens.

There are some good suggestions in here. I recommend choosing one that sounds good to YOU and starting with awareness + small daily steps.

In exploring Rest this month in the community, I’m finding the concept foreign. What does it even mean to rest? There’s so much to get done (now a days more than ever)!

And I realized that not only do we not value rest, we actively shame it. No wonder it’s a concept so foreign to veterinary professionals.

Help me out here, I love to know what’s your resistance to rest?

Even though the month of January marks the new calendar year we are still in the heart of the winter season of rest.

So before we start setting our sights on our goals and intentions for 2022, let’s explore (and maybe even practice) the idea of rest.

Tell me, what is your relationship with rest?

Happy New Year!

As we flip our calendars to 2022, it’s a beautiful time to reflect back on 2021 and start to dream about what’s next in 2022.

Please give yourself the gift of pausing to reflect, give gratitude, set down what you don’t want to carry forward, and seed your dreams for the coming year.

Maybe you’ve heard you shouldn’t vent. Or that venting is bad for the clinic, the culture and the morale.

Well, we’re here to tell you that it’s not the venting that’s the problem, it’s the way you are venting that’s the problem.

What if we told you there was a way to practice Productive Venting?

That’s right!
A way of venting that isn’t toxic.
A way of venting that leaves you (and those around you) feeling more energized rather than depleted.

Check out our FB Event and register for our FREE upcoming interactive webinar: Productive Venting for Veterinary Professionals.

Look at how easily we receive from the animals we love.

• We need them and that’s ok.

• We aren’t a bother to them, in fact they LOVE taking care of us. 😻

• They receive our gifts as happily as they give them back. A treat, a belly rub, a walk, playtime, a snuggle.

• We accept their love willingly without wondering if we deserve it.

• We trust that they will respond to us with love.

We don’t give to them in order to get. We give to them because we want to and it feels good. It’s a relationship with the flow of giving and receiving that goes both ways.

What have you learned about receiving from the animals and patients you love?

Why bother getting better at receiving?
It turns out, the better we get at receiving, the better we get at giving to ourselves. And that’s where the good stuff is. Giving ourselves the things that give us energy and resilience helps us do the important work we do!

So tell us, what are you ready to receive?

Sending gratitude to all of the veterinary professionals out there.

Thank you for caring for our animals as if they were your own, especially when we can’t be with them.

Thank you for showing up, however short staffed you are, and helping everyone you possibly can (even though you want to do more).

Thank you for your knowledge and unique skills to help us, help our animals.

And thank you for trying, problem solving, working under your own stresses and uncertainties, and weathering these difficult circumstances, all while no longer denying that you also need to take care of you.

Show some love and gratitude to your favorite veterinary professionals. Who are you grateful for today?

Nourishment supplies what is necessary for life, health and growth. Nourishment is about more than just food. It’s about anything you “ingest” or “take in” including:

• books
• movies
• tv series
• social media
• messages
• advertisements
• interactions with people
• environments

What do you take in that nourishes you?

This is the category near and dear to Vettastic Life. Working as a veterinary professional is about more than just a paycheck, it’s a livelihood with important meaning and purpose.

Helping animals

(and the people that love them).

With the stresses so many of us are feeling right now, meaning and purpose is getting lost in the difficulties we face in the overwhelm of our day to day work.

What do you need to remember today about why you joined this profession?

Rest is the ability to relax, nap, or pause from activity in order to recharge. Animals have the great ability to rest when they are tired and nap wherever they find themselves.

When we are stressed, rest becomes out of balance. We find ourselves unable to rest or possibly even sleeping too much. Both share the quality of not recharging from rest.

What ways do you recharge?
